Huge disappointment. Not even a single boss fight involves a character ripping off their shirt to reveal a physique of a japanese war deity and an advertisement for a local tattoo parlor. Other than that, it's a really good beat-em-up game with a decent story.

Perfect RGG game. This is the only game that comes close to Yakuza 0 for me. Also is a great entry point and a fantastic game that I would recommend if you like detective/mystery games compared to crime drama. This isn’t technically a Yakuza game, but it’s in the same universe. It’s a detective game with fighting/combat from Yakuza. It’s also the perfect game. The story is perfect and everything I ever wanted from an RGG game. Literally, when they wrote this game, the pen set the paper on fire. Each chapter of the main story is a mini case that leads into the main one, and they’re all interesting with their own twist to them. The main story/case as a whole is amazing and incredibly impactful if you’re familiar with the subject. They cooked with the ending; it also completely sticks the landing, too, and it’s my favorite in the whole series. The combat is great, too, with the two styles feeling really unique to each other, but I did feel like Tiger was better than Crane. Substories, or as they’re called in this game, “Sidecases,” are really fun, even though they can play out the same as substories. I like the detective spin on it. I also really like how the friend system works in this game and made me really interact with the people of Kamurcho, even though I have played this map for 7 games at this point. The girlfriend system was also cool and way more engaging than any of the stupid Cabaret Club dates. The mini-games are similar to other games, too, but Kamurcho of the Dead is fanumial. I only wished they added more levels to it. I do think this game has a bit of a slow start. I do feel like that comes down to a lot of characters and detective mechanics that need to be introduced. Speaking of which, a lot of the detective mechanics can feel annoying, even though I felt like they were used well. The trailing mechanic can be annoying and also take a while, and the observation can also be annoying if you don’t know what you’re looking for. I do feel like the mini-games are weak. Drone racing doesn’t really do it more for me compared to other main minigames in the series, and while the dice mini-game can make good money, there’s not a lot to it. Overall. I hate that judgment is such a good game but not enough people know about it. The story is better than 0 but I feel like the main minigames are holding me back from saying it’s just a better game in general. It’s still worth a play. If you don’t want a crime drama like main Yakuza games and want a detective one instead. PLAY THIS GAME.

To quickly sum this game up. If you have ever played any of the Yakuza games, then you already know what you are getting into. The only difference is this game is less fighting and more strategy/matching. If you have never played one of those games, then consider this a detective game where everyone in the city hates you guts and you end up in a small fight every 5 minutes while doing favors for everyone while trying to solve several murder cases. The Yakuza line of games is a larger set of mini games in a collection. Sega has placed several of their own FULL games in the arcades and many others throughout the city. We are talking Outrun, Virtua Fighter 5, VR board games, Mahjong, and many many more. You play a detective who is helping out with a murder case. You are tasked with collecting evidence to prove the client is innocent. As you go through the events, you notice a larger issue that ultimately affects several groups, Yakuza, and citizens. With you partner in tow, you traverse the city streets looking for clues pummeling all who get in your way. The actual game does not take long to go through. However, the fun of this type of game is in the side missions. You will spend a considerable amount of time doing these and playing through all the arcade games. If you are looking for a a recommendation... I have played a Yakuza game and this one. I enjoyed this more as I was not fighting some super powerful Yakuza lieutenant every hour.

Judgment is highly recommended game, especially if you love beat em up yakuza games. Highlights: Combat is the best out of all yakuza games that i played (yakuza 0, kiwami 1 and 2) - it feels more natural, enemies still block your moves but you can counter it with different angle or different move Graphics looks nice, huge improvement from yakuza kiwami 2 City feels more alive and there are small detail that makes this game great - like taking selfies with other characters they will pose with you - act like a creep and take pictures with random people (they will hide their faces and avoid you) - City especially theater square has unique feel in each time of the day (morning all the stores are closed and packed up, but at night a lot of people are swarming the place) - you can enter and explore buildings and alleyways, although most of them are just for visual purposes - more dating games please! - story is interesting enough! CONS. - lack of variety for side cases - Tailing and inspecting missions feels basic and gimmicky, needs to flesh out the mechanics more - Friends mission feels basic - Too grindy. (one of the most grindiest rgg game i played so far). SP and money are hard to get by here unlike in other games. (although you can play paradise VR to earn a lot of money but you need VR passes, which you can get by defeating enemies (requires luck) or playing in casinos, which requires luck also. - I didn't use any of those extracts. The bosses are highly predictable and easier in normal levels. I will not play the legends mode due to the grindy nature of this game (i got tired) but it's still a highly recommended game if you're craving for more and unique adventures in Kamurocho!

Judgment where Yakuza meets detective and a bit of Lawyer. I can confidently say it's one of the best game I have played in a while and one of my favourite. Everything ranging from the story, gameplay and even the open world environment is fantastic, minus the lack of karaoke. The story takes place in Kamurocho, the all too familiar setting of Yakuza. It plays pretty similar to older Yakuza games except that you're detective and part time lawyer. Judgment is probably one of the best story by RGG and I enjoyed every moment of it. It stars Takuya Kimura as Yagami, what more could you ask for. In terms of combat, it's more basic and less complicated as there's only 2 styles and to be honest it felt really polished. The skills and combos which you can perform are fun and exciting to look at. I have always prefer this combat system over the newer RPG-ish and I'm glad it remained. In terms of the open-world, Kamurocho had never felt so alive, the graphics focuses on realism and throughout my gameplay it really felt like I was there in Tokyo. The side activities are amazing and engaging as usual which is what you can expect from RGG. My only gripe is that there's no Karaoke, other than that it's perfect. The new introduced Dice & Cube is also really fun and is my go to earn Millions of Yen. Imagine playing VR and yet you can make millions. That's the basis of Dice & Cube. Gameplay aside, the cast are really interesting as well. I really liked Kaito & Mafuyu's design. The characters model and facial expression are also really detailed even for today's standard. The graphics and environmental details are nothing to scoff at either, it's great. On to the topic of soundtrack, I think the composer did really great job & both the opening and ending song are a banger by Alexandros. To summarise, this game is great spin-off of the already popular Yakuza series. It takes that and carries it to a whole new level. It has great characters and open world design paired with great story and tons of side contents. What more could you ask for? I'll definitely recommend this game to those who are looking for a different take on the Yakuza series or even an avid enjoyer of the series itself. This game is a strong 9/10 for me and I strongly recommend it. It's an old game so it does get discounted quite often.
