Be ready to pay, the game only includes 1/10th of the songs without the pass.

i mean damn it's the drum beater game, of course it's good, lowkey the only problem with this game is that too much is locked behind dlc/pass and the fact online seems to be dead most of the time nowadays wish namco and other big names from rhythm genre made more *globally available* pc releases (ideally maybe port older arcade entries, but that isn't going to happen for obvious reasons) since the home gaming market for rhythm games is god awful in selection compared to the arcade market

Fan of Taiko no Tatsujin here. To those reading the other reviews, I understand that having a subscription on top of the base 50 dollars seems really scummy, but it used to be so much worse back when there was mountains of DLCs. Plus, the subscription is actually super cheap (10 bucks for THREE months, which for me literally translates to I pay 10 bucks once for summer break). Additionally, this game's pricing model is far better than other PC versions of arcade games like IIDX Infinitas & Pop'n Music LIvely (a flat, steep subscription to even play the game) and Groove Coaster (horribly overpriced DLC) on steam. Not an arcade game but DJMax Respect V straight up has a battle pass (not a "ticket" to instantly unlock almost all of the songs in the whole franchise like this game) *in addition to* DLC and a 50 dollar base price. Overall the game is really fun and it is awesome that there is finally a decent way to officially play taiko on Steam. There are a huge amount of gameplay and outfit customization options with great support for drum controllers, and the gameplay is addictive as always. Just kindly take the other reviews criticizing the subscription service with a grain of salt.

At its core, this thing is incredibly fun, cute, and addictive -- great for both casual and hardcore rhythm game enjoyers. The learning curve is surprisingly smooth with the addition of a versatile training mode that lets you practice rhythms and patterns without having to replay the whole song again and again. Unfortunately, this game also has one of the worst user interface designs I've ever seen. Menuing is a total slog and everything takes forever to load for no real reason; as an example, going from song selection to settings takes 20 whole seconds. The game's leveling mechanic is tedious for similar reasons, making you collect all of your level rewards one by one without skipping, while being able to progress only 5 levels at a time. I don't see why this couldn't have been optimized for better user experience. The massive paywall behind most of the songs (as well as the inability to import custom tracks) is quite questionable considering the game's retail price, but I find that you can get a reasonable bang for your buck with the monthly music pass. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, as I'm sure there are cheaper and more accessible alternatives out there, but if you're looking to expand your Steam library with a solid rhythm game and are not afraid to splurge -- this may be it.

this game is good and fun but i think its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass that hundreds of songs are paywalled. we should be having at least half of the entire songlist available in the base game.
