the writer was too locked in on the slice of life i think he forgot that theres a conflict and main plot to resolve which made the story felt like it got cut off abruptly. Not horrid, but nothing spectacular, decent purchase if you are just here for pure romance.

Amazing art, music and voice acting but sadly not as good in the plot department. The initial premise and the world itself may look interesting but the way the story written sadly makes it overstay it's welcome. It's still a nice experience but sadly far from being great. 6/10, recommended if you don't mind the issues with the story.

Kanade is from the same developer Frontwing that created ATRI and Ginka. I loved both titles a lot, so I had high expectations for this title. And overall, I greatly enjoyed Kanade, one of the best VN I read in 2025 so far. I think it did a lot of things right, and it personally resonated with me as well with its theme and story. That said, I don't think it was perfect as well. The Pros: +Gorgeous art. Yusano is a great artist who did a great job with the art in ATRI and Ginka, and yet it looks like they improved with Kanade. The character design is gorgeous, and the backgrounds were just as beautiful. Even the backgrounds by itself are worthy to use as wallpapers. Speaking of which, several CGs were all so well made I just had to save some and use it as some of my wallpaper for desktop. The SD, while only a few existed, were so adorable as well. +Phenomenal music, in fact I'd say music is easily the highlight of this VN, it's so amazing. The BGM melodies are catchy while not distracting, and the vocals, wow. Kanade's VA (Yūko Natsuyoshi) did an amazing job here. Not only was her performance as Kanade was good, but her singing was out of this world for this title. The vocal tracks played during some scenes did not have any melody, just her singing, but that itself was so soothing to listen to due to how powerful her voice is. I could listen to it for days. +The story is short yet simple. Without spoiling it, the story is a simple yet sweet love story between the two main characters. The VN is rather short, so I felt that a simple love story was great for this short length title. It wasn't a complicated story at all. You had the love development between the two main characters, and while there are some lore drops and a few high stakes moments, they do not overpower the main theme, romance, for this title as that's where the main focus is. Very simple and straight to the point type of story. +The VN has that soothing effect. The overall vibe of the VN is a very happy, positive one that'll make anyone smile when reading it, and may even help you lift your spirit up if you're going through some rough times. Whether its due to Kanade's positive personality, or how beautiful her singing is or how gorgeous the art is, I think this VN has the power to soothe anyone's souls. The Cons -While I said above that this being a short title works as it's a simple love story, I also think that its short length is a flaw, as that means some parts are underdeveloped. If this VN was as long as ATRI or Ginka, I believe that some parts could have developed more, like the setting, exploring more of the city or the underground would have been cool to see. Or the other characters, I would have loved to see more from the side characters like Iori, Minori, Aki, or the old man. If Kanade were as long as ATRI or Ginka, I'm positive the writers would have written more about those characters. It's a shame because I was getting really attached to the side characters this time, moreso than I was with the side characters in ATRI and Ginka. -This really ties in with my point above on Kanade being too short, but I felt that the lore is not fully developed. And while some of the lore are explained, most of the info dump occurs near the end, which kind of padded out a certain scene towards the end, sort of ruining the scene's tempo and pacing for me. I would have preferred having some hints spread out here and there throughout the story, which I think it's only possible if the VN was longer. Overall, Kanade is a phenomenal VN that I strongly recommend. It's a short title, and while I think it could have been better if longer, I think it being short makes it a good title for anyone to read if they have the time and want a nice change of pace, or want to use it as a stop gap while waiting to read your next long VN. I strongly recommend Kanade for those who love a simple romance story, or those who love music, or those who simply wants a nice, healing experience for their soul.
