This game is so jank that I LOVE it! I read some of the reviews saying it was full of bugs and it is. Cars crashing into you before a race, car loosing grip suddenly, handbrake engaging suddenly, when you crash the car stalls and does not downshift (I strongly suggest using a manual gearbox)... and so many more. But guess what? That made me love it even more. This is such an unpolished gem! I also appreciate that they give you just enough money from the get go for an 86. The devs knew what we came for! Overall I think the game is lovely and people should not take it too seriously. Definitely does not deserve some of the hate comments I saw.

Kanjozoku Game レーサー Online Street Racing & Drift is a niche but passionate homage to Japan’s underground highway racing scene, specifically drawing inspiration from the legendary kanjo culture of Osaka. Developed by SG DEV and published by Midnight Games, the title positions itself less as a traditional, structured racing game and more as a digital playground for car enthusiasts who value atmosphere, tuning freedom, and the raw thrill of high-speed nighttime driving. From the moment you enter its looping expressways, the game makes it clear that it is about vibe and self-expression rather than scripted progression, leaning heavily into the romanticized image of illegal street racers blasting through traffic under neon lights. At its core, the driving experience balances accessibility with enough nuance to reward players who take time to learn the handling. The physics model is arcade-focused, prioritizing speed, responsiveness, and fun over strict realism, yet it still allows for meaningful differences between cars and setups. Drifting, in particular, feels intentionally loose and expressive, encouraging long slides through highway curves rather than precise, technical cornering. Races often emphasize maintaining speed, weaving through traffic, or avoiding mistakes rather than simply hitting perfect racing lines, which reinforces the sensation of reckless street racing rather than sanctioned motorsport. The online-centric structure is a defining element of the experience. Instead of a guided career mode or story campaign, players drop into shared sessions where races, challenges, and free-roaming runs unfold organically. Various race types mix things up, from standard high-speed sprints to modes that test consistency, survival, or control under pressure. Police chases add another layer of tension, forcing players to balance speed and evasion while navigating traffic-heavy highways. This open approach gives the game a sandbox feel, but it also means that enjoyment heavily depends on personal motivation and the presence of other players. Customization is where the game truly shines and where much of its long-term appeal lies. Car tuning goes far beyond cosmetic changes, offering a surprisingly deep mechanical system that allows players to tweak engines, turbos, gear ratios, suspension setups, and ECU behavior. Engine swaps open the door to dramatic performance shifts, letting players transform modest builds into high-powered monsters. Visually, the game caters strongly to JDM fans, with body kits, wheels, and livery options that capture the spirit of late-night tuner culture. The ability to apply custom vinyls further enhances individuality, making every car feel like a personal statement rather than a preset machine. Despite its strong thematic focus, the game does show its limitations over extended play. The environment is largely restricted to highway loops, which, while atmospheric, can begin to feel repetitive due to the lack of varied locations or urban districts. There is no meaningful damage system, so crashes lack consequence beyond momentary slowdown, and traffic interactions are simplified. The absence of a structured progression system or narrative context may leave some players feeling directionless, especially those who prefer clear goals, unlock paths, or single-player challenges to work toward. Technical polish and online stability are mixed but serviceable. While the game generally runs smoothly, online sessions can sometimes feel sparse depending on player activity, and matchmaking is not always consistent. That said, the community that does exist tends to embrace the game’s spirit, often forming informal races, car meets, and drifting sessions that replicate real-world street racing culture in a relaxed, social way. Continued updates have helped refine performance and features over time, suggesting an ongoing commitment to improvement even if the scope remains modest. Visually and sonically, the game succeeds more through mood than raw fidelity. Nighttime lighting, glowing city backdrops, and engine sounds combine to create an immersive cruising atmosphere that feels authentic to its inspiration. While it doesn’t rival big-budget racing titles in graphical complexity, its presentation aligns well with its underground theme, reinforcing the sensation of speeding through city highways at illegal speeds with nothing but headlights and taillights cutting through the darkness. In the end, Kanjozoku Game レーサー Online Street Racing & Drift is best understood as a passion project aimed squarely at fans of Japanese car culture and informal online racing. Its strengths lie in its customization depth, cultural authenticity, and the freedom it gives players to define their own experience, while its weaknesses stem from limited environments, minimal structure, and a reliance on active online participation. For players who enjoy tuning cars, drifting at high speed, and soaking in the atmosphere of underground racing without rigid rules or narratives, it offers a distinctive and rewarding experience that stands apart from more conventional racing games. The game features online Multiplayer, Underground-style customization, Traffic (which is a pain to configure in Assetto Corsa), police chases, and street challenges, in addition to competition with other players. The game is definitely worth the price, especially on sale.
