It's a great indie action shooter in the vein of Megaman, but it also has some balancing and control issues that keep it from being one of the all time greats, even though I think it could have been. Similar to Pixel's other game, Cave Story, there is a steep learning curve that gets a lot easier once you master the controls. I actually think the weapon balancing in this game is better than in Cave Story since each of the four weapons has a specific practical purpose and you will switch between them constantly if you want to survive. This game's achievements aren't hard as much as tedious since they basically boil down to a memory test and for some reason I found it super hard to focus while playing this. The final achievement, in particular, involves defeating all the bosses without taking a single hit. That alone is not too bad but one of the bosses relies partially on RNG to instakill and otherwise it's random probabilities as to whether you will kill it. Beyond that, I like that the "hard mode" is almost a completely different game with totally new bosses and a different story. The "Omaki" (Japanese for bonus) mode kind of killed the fun for me. It's totally pointless except for a new weapon and a boss gauntlet at the end. To get the new weapon you have to move through deliberately glitched looking environments, and if you upgrade the weapon too many times it's actually weaker so I had to play through a second time to keep the downgraded version. On the plus side, the music is absolutely brilliant and the combat is a ton of fun for the most part. The game is super easy in its default mode so the achievements are the only challenging part of it. I would have liked it if the controls were a bit tighter and the "hard" challenges to be a bit more fair, but this is still a wonderful linear platformer that does what it does very well.

this is basically the best game ever made. it's like duck game if it was just single player and didn't have my friend Toeman kicking my ass all the time. also you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frog which is way cooler than ducks, which are already really cool. a charming game about the importances of work-life-balance. it's not the some divine masterpiece that's going to blow your mind and that's the point. it's a lovingly and reasonably made human effort, and that's why it's so beautiful.

Kero Blaster is a game in which our protagonist frog is desperately trying to overcome the trials and tribulations of our stressful work afflicted world. Time after time, he is forced to go above-and-beyond his work load, blazing past new challenges, overcoming difficult obstacles and great dangers. However there's more, there is always more, even when his work is seemingly complete there is always more, yet the frog perseveres. He knows he must continue on with his tasks and assignments no matter how daunting the challenge, for he is The Employed, the chained laborer, the weary toiler locked in the eternal cycle known as Work. It's a good game.

Frog And Toad Go To Silent Hill It's got some of that Cave Story charm, but the controls are stiff and committal, hitboxes are a little wide, life total is very low, and some attacks are very hard to sight read. It makes up for this with a lot of interesting worldbuilding and spriting, and it is paced quite well. Unfortunately you're on an old school lives system, so I didn't bother repeating the final stage to get that last 3% health on the last phase of the final boss. I wouldn't say this is a hard game, and it's not super long either, but it feels decently meaty. Anything longer would require different mechanics. If you're craving a short msdos style platformer, this is a solid pick, and I hope we'll get a super kero blaster sometime.

Honestly, what a wonderful game. Very polished, balanced, creative and plays super smoothly. Although it's on the more difficult side, I never got overly frustrated, as usually one or two deaths are enough to learn how to get past a section. The only real gripe I have is personal: I'm sad that there isn't more dialogue and character interaction. I feel like, compared with Cave Story, made by the same developer, which is full of NPCs in every area, this game lacks that same sense of being able to directly interact with the world you're playing in. That said, the story and cutscenes that ARE in the game were very enjoyable. In case anyone is wondering whether this game is worth 10 bucks, I can assure you that it 100% is. Go buy it and play it if you have the money and time, trust me. As long as you have experience playing video games and can handle some difficulty, you won't regret it
