Yes, I can recommend Knytt Underground to other players. But only very, very specific players. If you're interested in game design and game mechanics, there's a lot to gain by exploring Knytt Underground. Rather than sequencing a traditional Metroidvania where progress is gated by traversal abilities (higher jumps, grappling hooks, stronger bombs) this game gates progress with methods of traversal you technically already have, but which the game hasn't explicitly taught you how to use yet. You don't enter a room and get super high jump boots, you enter a room and realize, based on the arc the room traces, how to use your existing movement in a totally new way. It's so clever, so well-implemented, and it rewards you with surprising and visually striking new environments replete with their own lessons to teach. Generally, those lessons follow a theme: "no, explore that deeper. Probe that further. You think you can't get up there? Actually, I bet you can, if you strive harder." All of those tricks and those secrets make the world of Knytt Underground feel vibrant and alive. But the characters populating that world? Geez, are they hard to take. The character art falls far below passable, which is all the more striking when the aesthetics of the game environment work so well. And the character dialog trends sophomoric and unconvincingly edgy, teenaged first draft prose, with lots of "meta" jokes that just feel like cop-outs. Even when the outline of a side quest has interesting plot beats on paper, the dialog tends to ruin everything. And the broader themes brought up by the dialog don't really cohere or develop. To patient and curious players who can bear sifting through all of that to get to the great game underneath, I absolutely recommend Knytt Underground. (I am, after all, one of those players myself) But for everyone else, proceed with caution.

It's a good game, but the graphics has dated like a skimmed milk, it looks absolutely a** : the author hasn't even bothered to put in proper video settings, so you have to fiddle with 3rd party upscalers to make it look somewhat decent on anything larger than 720p (jfc). By default it'll look like a blurry pixel vomit on your 4k screen.

Really nice, relaxing (at times), underrated game. Beautiful visuals, near-perfect audio and a dev that I'd like to back with all that I have. The feeling of mastering the movement system is extremely satisfying and I just wish it was longer.

Extremely relaxing, almost zen-like game, with a huge nonlinear open world (starting in chapter 3, which is really the entire game; the first two chapters are more like tutorials). Great music and atmospheric sound design that's very reminiscent of ASMR, and some beautiful backgrounds. Very cool. Has some tricky precision platformer elements as well, especially for the optional challenges and achievements. Turning into a ball is great fun, I honestly wish more metroidvanias or platformers had elements like this. The speed it allows you to traverse, as well as nailing tricky bounces into hard to reach places, is very satisfying.

the appeal of this game is that you can spend many hours exploring a staggeringly massive, lush, atmospheric world while listening to great ambient music. that said, the characters and quests are plenty endearing and fun, too.
