Excellent game that nails all of the metroidvania fundamentals extremely well. Between the accessibility features present in the difficulty presets and sliders (even for platforming difficulty & enemy patterns, which is not very common), the plethora of quality of life features in the infinite map markers, instant fast travel to save points from anywhere, anti-runback boss checkpoints, swappable loadouts even outside of save points, clear indications when you've acquired all "secrets" or items in a room, and the list goes on, this game truly shows a strong understanding of the modern polishing and refinements that should be foundational to the genre. Due to the above and the strong interconnected map design, the exploration is also very smooth and solid, representing that of a proper metroidvania as opposed to the glorified key-lock linearity that lots of indies have nowadays. The movement is also very fast and crisp, even for the basic walking speed, and only gets better with each successive upgrade. While the combat isn't necessarily state-of-the-art, it serves its purpose without clashing with other focal components of the game and doesn't break the flow of the moment-to-moment, and for that matter there are some cool ability ideas in the game that remind me of action MMOs. Some areas of improvement are the collision detection for the hazards, as it felt very unlenient, especially when doing the platforming section. Sometimes, I would get hit by spikes immediately after exiting a portal, with no chance at aversion. For that matter, the portals could use a brief amount of time freeze when interacted with, to give the player a chance to gather themselves and make the platforming situations sight-readable, since with the current implementation, the portal "puzzles" are quite trial-and-error/memorization. I also think the fall speed should not be uncapped, as acceleration due to gravity in a simple 2d side-scrolling metroidvania can be dizzying when free-falling in even short heights. Lastly, the visibility of certain enemies & attacks in the last few areas is quite poor, due to their colors blending in with the backgrounds. To address this, there should be sharper contrast between the foreground/gameplay and background/decorative textures. Overall, this was a fun, small-scope metroidvania experience, and a breath of fresh air in a crowded market. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a chill, relaxing, and grounded metroidvania experience that respects your time.

---See where this game landed on my Metroidvania Tier List beneath this rec!--- For a short, basic looking metroidvania this one punches well above its weight. Highly recommend playing on the hardest difficulty setting (you can toggle it at any point) as the easier settings trivialise the game too much. On hardest difficulty settings, enemy attacks are faster, making bosses much more fun to deal with. By about the second boss fight (on hardest difficulty) I knew I was hooked on this game. The map is decent. You can place map markers (I didn't really need too). When you find everything in a small area, the map marks this by placing a coloured border around the room, making it easy to keep track of what needs further exploration (so like Biomorph, Ender Lilies, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom etc). Music is short and repetitive but also quite appealing to me. I love the dark track that plays in one of the areas and the serious boss music. While it's maybe 5 hours long, it's smooth as hell to play. I really hope the dev makes more of these, they did an excellent job with Shattered Divinities! There isn't enough space in a Steam Rec to post my entire Tier List, so I cut off the bottom tiers and just left the games I liked. You can find the latest (and better) version of the Tier List on my reddit profile which I update every six months or sooner, located here: [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/metroidvania/comments/14l87nn/my_large_metroidvania_tier_list/]Tier List ===================== My Metroidvania Tier List (PC) (excluding Metroid & Castlevania titles) ===================== -Not an objective list, purely how much I enjoyed the games- S+ Aeterna Noctis | S Tier (Truly Special) Astalon: Tears of the Earth | Hollow Knight: Silksong | MIO: Memories in Orbit | Hollow Knight | Master Key³$ | Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom | S- Solateria | Blasphemous 2 | Cathedral | Crypt Custodian³ | A+ Afterimage | The Last Faith | Supraland³ | Supraland: Six Inches Under³ | Oolo³ | Frogmonster³ | A Tier (Amazing) Elderand | Ori and the Will of the Wisps | Doomblade^ | BioGun | Zexion | Chronicles of the Wolf | Kotama and Academy Citadel | Blossom Tales 2³$ | A- Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights | Depths of Sanity | F.I.S.T. | Pampas & Selene | Ender Magnolia | Mandragora | B+ Blast Brigade | Haak | Turbo Kid | Nine Sols | Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus | Biomorph | Minishoot’ Adventures³ | Banjo-Kazooie³ | Banjo-Tooie³ | Donkey Kong 64³ | B Tier (Really Enjoyed) Animal Well | Alwa’s Legacy | Steamworld Dig 2 | Islets | Blasphemous | After Death | Pronty^ | Mortal Manor* | Escape From Tethys | Outbuddies DX* | Monster Sanctuary | Elliot Quest | Rebel Transmute | Moonlight Pulse | Environmental Station Alpha | Twilight Monk | Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown | Death’s Door³ | Pipistrello and the Cursed Yo-yo³ | Yooka-Laylee³ | Shattered Divinities | B- Shadow Labyrinth | Haiku, the Robot | The Mobius Machine | Ultros | Voidwrought | Crystal Project³ | Unsighted³ | Tunic³ | Prey (2017)³ | C+ (Fun) Lone Fungus | Lone Fungus: Melody of Spores | Guns of Fury | Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night | Laika: Aged through Blood | Ghost Song | Kunai | Kingdom Shell | Axiom Verge | Treasure Adventure Game | GigaSword* | Infernax | Flipwitch# | Momodora 4 | Momodora 5 | HunterX | HunterX: code name T | Gestalt | Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists | Super Roboy | BladeChimera | AntiChamber³ | Blossom Tales³$ | Mask of Soul | Raider Kid and the Ruby Chest | Tiny Dangerous Dungeons Remake | MF-01 Aerostrike^ | C Tier (Enjoyed) The Throne | Plague of Yamorn* | Constance | Column on the Sea | 9 Years of Shadows | Jrago* | Xanthiom Zero | Carrion^ | Chasm | Wuppo | The Mummy Demastered | Catmaze | Curse of the Sea Rats* | Death’s Gambit: Afterlife | Castle In The Clouds DX# | Omega Strike | Aggelos | Midnight Castle Succubus# | Overbowed | Rabi-Ribi | TEVI | Far Star | Sheepo | Skelethrone: The CoE* | Unworthy | Undivine | Somber Echoes | Oirbo* | Ato | Side Scape³$ | And All Would Cry Beware³ | Lycanthorn 2³ | Gravethorn | Vomitoreum³ | Maid of Salvation³ | Kalinur | 100 Pumpkins 2 | Grumpy Jack³ | Sealed Bite | Jedi: Fallen Order³ | Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland | Arkham Asylum³ | Omnigon | SJ-19 learns to Love | Paradox Vector³ | The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest | Hargrave | Bread Adventure | EldritchVania |

Low cost, low time, and overall very well done. The story behind the metroidvania-ing is interesting enough to keep you going, the artwork is simple-but-nice, the upgrades are constant, and the controls are tight. There are some minor annoyances - there are platforming sections, late game, that can be excruciating to get through - but there's also a difficulty setting for those same sections to make them a little easier or even turn them off. I'm aware The Standard Internet Troll would prefer to laugh and 'git gud' at people, but I'm getting old and creaky and don't have the reflexes I did 30 years ago, so the nerf bat was very much appreciated.

tldr; 6 out of 10. Exploration-wise it's pretty straight forward, hidden routes made easy to find, map completion support is there. Parkour difficulty is on the easy side, ignoring one part that needs pixel perfect swimming tech, RAGE. Combat difficulty, I played on the difficulty one below the highest NG+ difficulty and its a chaos. Combat is very poorly balanced. If you're here hoping for an engaging fight then this game isn't for you. Most of the time will end like you just tanking and hitting the boss. Because the mechanics, is frustrating to say the least. Story is there. Idk if its meant to be a joke but the 'reading' part is just... ?. Graphic is cute, and might be the main selling point for this game. Its a pretty short game, should last 3-5 hours depending on completion.

Very well done metroidvania! Works great on SteamDeck. Excellent, convenient map, beautiful graphics, and music. Special thanks for the flexible difficulty settings — it’s so rare for a metroidvania to let you adjust the difficulty to the level I enjoy. Exploration is a joy too! Haven’t finished it yet, but I’m looking forward to playing more! Highly recommended for players who often find metroidvanias too hardcore due to the lack of difficulty settings, yet still love the genre.
