A delightful roguelite-turn-idle game, not perfect but has more good than bad in my opinion. Pros: -Fairly decent skill tree, has some variety that helps with the slow-grow rogue aspect of the game. The Keystone skills which dot the tree are nice ways to customize your playstyle according to your preferences, with a couple utility ones that I felt were auto-includes once you got your Keystone slots leveled up. -Lots of characters with their own combos and such, the synergy heroes were a nice complement. Ascended heroes (where you mixed two synergy heroes into one gestalt hero) were a fun addition, allowing you to essentially grow your army past the 50-cap with essentially "doubled" heroes in the slot. -Adventure mode was fairly dynamic for a simple game, I appreciated the ability to "loop" your run to get a stronger build. It took me about three loops the first time before I could beat the Endbringer, but I'd end up farming the Adventure mode for skill gems and would just keep looping until the missions got ridiculous. Cons: -Like others have said, the UI wasn't super friendly. There *is* a way to stop the zoom-in during a hero's ultimate (in settings), because once you got to like 50 heroes who were ulting every 3-4 seconds, the shaking could low-key trigger motion sickness lol. -My cpu isn't the best, fairly a weaker one, and during the Endless mode I was worried it might crap out on me. The game also had random glitches where if I clicked too many times on a loading screen it would freeze and crash out. PATIENCE, YOUNG GRASSHOPPERS. -NOT A CON BUT DEVELOPER: Could you *PLEASE* add some sort of mark/noting to Ascended Heroes that you have already discovered? I *could* write them down and track manually, but it would have been nice on the Ascension Selection screen to have something that notified that you already did a pairing before. For those of us with severe collection/completionist itches (I gave up trying after finding about 20-25% of them...!) Otherwise, I put 16 hours in to get 100% Steam Achievements, so I consider the game complete for me, but it's a great "buy on a discount" game. Check it out!

While I have one last achievement to earn in the games side mode, I think Legionbound is a great autobattler that will likely demand 10-20 hours to see all it has to offer depending on how much you engage with the time skip mechanics or treat later portions of the game's challenges as idle or active play. I would absolutely classify this more on the idle side of things, because at a certain point, your micro strategies of unit placement get taken over my macro ones; you ban heroes before the run even starts versus being choosy in the hiring screen. You can tailor your special unique perks to focus on DEX, MAG, STR, or DEF builds, taking negatives to others. You can even turn on Idle mode after a certain point of progression and prioritize items, spells, and in-run boosts through the form of idols. So it follows a much more idle game game transition from active thinking to idle game strategizing per run. The meta unlocks escalate to a point of "going infinite" such that you can brute force your success if strategizing isn't your thing. There are plenty of limited unique upgrades that are just better than others, such as making ultimate abilities happen sooner or lowering the requirements to ascend characters to their most powerful forms. Overall, this is the quintessential YouTube video essay game. Poke at it while catching up on some of my favorite channels versus playing something more active. Totally relax and watch the numbers get bigger and the bad mans fall down. You can even kill Death itself, a quintessential part of most of these types of games. I think the current asking price at time of review is a bit high, but I got it at introductory discount and being bundled with another game I already owned. At $5, this could be easily a fun weekend or two distraction, but at $10, I feel like it lacks long lasting power. Additionally, while I don't think any specific build is a newb trap, I do think that some of the Idol upgrades are very bad, such that without knowing these games scale exponentially, some choices are going to really screw you over 10-20 minutes later and you won't realize it. Sometimes I just specifically chose one that had zero impact to my current run as the others were just negative to my strategy. That's always a bummer. Overall, recommended if you're a fan of idle games.

Not a bad game, but one that's very heavily reliant on meta progression. I'm not gonna say there's zero strategy involved when there are choices that you can make and class synergy combos that you should utilize along with "Ascension" (not a traditional "wipe progress and reset" Ascension, but combine two character into an ultra mega character), but it feels like the best way to play is to turn on auto buy items / heroes, turn game speed to x3, then let the auto battler stuff do its thing so you can come back to meta currency upgrade and make progress that way. Would recommend this if you're looking for that second screen game while you're doing something else.

Legionbound — Cheap, fun, and better than most “side game” auto-battlers Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) | Verdict: Recommended Nothing here is mind-blowing, but it’s fun, cheap, and engaging for what it is. It’s an auto-battler, but you’re still actively making decisions during fights, and the roguelike run progression gives it good variety. Pros - Relatively cheap - Engaging auto-battler gameplay (you’re actively doing things while battles play out) - Great “side game” you can pick up and put down - Lots of skill/build progression per run (roguelike structure) - Good build variety thanks to lots of classes/characters - Pixel art fits the game well - Naming your army members is a fun little touch - Running clean so far (no bugs/performance issues yet, though I’m still early) Cons - Music gets stale quickly - Graphics/display options feel limited (resolution setting is grayed out, and windowed mode isn’t obvious) Best for: People who want a cheap auto-battler/roguelike to play in short bursts with lots of build options. Skip if: You need strong music variety, robust graphics settings, or something with real depth/long-term hooks. Bottom line: A solid budget time-killer. Worth it if you want a fun, low-commitment run-based game.
