I absolutely love this game! It's a different twist on the farming sim games that tried a couple of very different mechanics- namely, travel! Your home is the captains deck of a space ship, with a small village of crew members. You travel between planets to find new resources and recruit new members to your crew. While you have lots of space to build farming equipment, everything takes power and you have to build a solar power farm on the hull of your ship. This means that for every few plant beds you build (because you don't just have a field of dirt), you have to build a solar panel. You can't spam the farm for extra money early on. You have to better plan your resources: you can't just take an elevator to the mine level 20 to find silver ore, you have to fly to one of the two planets you can mine it from (with three days flight time). There are no seasons, but each planet has it's own crops you can buy, so maximizing your income takes planning and storage as well. Because of the flight time, I ended up "hibernating" (Waking up, checking crops, then going right back to sleep) much quicker than I normally do. For me, that's typically an end game thing, but it quickly became the travel plan. It feels a little odd that the travel time between the furthest planet from you and the closest is the same, I would have liked to see an in game explanation for that. I love that there is no relationship decay with the crew, making friendships is always my least favorite part of these games, and it didn't feel like nearly as much of a chore here. It helps that you can see where your crew members are, and they have relatively normal schedules, so you're not running all over the ship looking for the person you have a gift for. It's actually possible to talk to every single person in a day, that's not always so easy. I love the art style, it's an interesting mix of anthropomorphic chibi cuteness and 60s sci fi. It's delightfully stylized. I don't have many complaints about this game, I know others have hated the travel time (which is a bit of an inconvenience, but that's kind of the point!) and found the mining repetitive (isn't it always?). The microbe catching mini game was by far my least favorite part, but they added an option in the settings to either slow down the game, or get rid of it entirely. Games with horrible fishing mechanics, please take note! All in all, this is one of my favorite "Stardew like games" and I would highly recommend it to anyone who's not bothered by having to take things at a slower pace. I can't wait to see what's coming next!

I'll start off by saying I give this game a 4/5! I was going to give it a 5/5 after playing for a good bit, but I decided to wait until I had played more to really get a better grasp of the game. The reason I went from a 5 to a 4 is due to the repetitiveness I started to feel after playing for awhile. I found myself with a lot of down time, in between waiting a long time for crops to grow to complete quests, my tools to be upgraded, the 3 days it takes to travel to another planet, and obtaining all of the materials needed to complete quests and progress through the game. It was fun at first during the downtime to go explore the ship and talk to the other crew members, but it started to become really monotonous and boring after doing it so many times. The different planets are cool to travel to, but I also realized after the first 2 that they were basically the same as far as the monsters go and what you have to do to get through them. I do feel the rewards at the major checkpoints haven't been super rewarding, either. With that said, I still really enjoy this game. If you're not into games that are very grind-y, then this might not be for you. I do enjoy games where I have to grind, and I also enjoy games that are quest-based - which this game definitely is. I can tell that the husband and wife team put a lot of love into this game, and I do overall have a lot of fun when with it and look forward to progressing! The characters are fleshed out, the game itself looks beautiful, and I'm invested in the story. I always feel very satisfied once I've finally done what I need to do to fulfill a quest! Overall, I would definitely recommend this game to someone who doesn't mind grinding and enjoys fulfilling quests to progress the story. If you enjoy Stardew Valley, I would definitely compare this to that, except you're in space. It pretty much has all of those same mechanics there (farming, a museum - eventually, friendship building, romance, mining for resources, etc.). I really do enjoy this game and look forward to completing it and the story!

Stardew Valley in Space! I was already sold! Except... This game is good and worth your time, especially if you're a casual Stardew player or a Animal Crossing fiend. The main issue in this game is grind - the days are too short to accomplish what you want while also tending the farm, and the automation abilities don't do enough to offset this. This is a very long term game to spend time playing if you want to 100% it, and not all that time spent feels great. The good: Characters are well written and progress based on your relationship. Quest system is great. UI is wonderful. Inventory management has a few rough bits that you'll learn to work around quickly, but mostly great. General vibe is excellent, and the worlds you visit have enough flavor that you won't mind how repetitive the gameplay is too much. The bad - the devil is in the details: Exploring the planets is ok at first and then never improves. Shoot any baddies near you, then rocks, pick up things, then dig until you find the ladder to the next level. It's Stardew's cave system at its worst and most basic, with nothing but basic upgrades to the damage done by your main weapon. You do get a charge up shot, which is basically worthless except for mowing the lawn for fodder. Other upgrades are in the same line as Stardew, with holding the button spending more stamina for more impact. Travel time between planets is three days - which is fine the first go around, because you have things to do on the ship to keep you busy. By the time the game asks you to do a second go-around after the main mission, this travel time is painfully long. There's at least a way to purchase meteorites at the end of the game to speed along relic gathering. Relationships are a bit of a grind, but once the farm is going, you just give everybody jam or fabric and stop trying to match gifts to people. There's too many people with too long of a morale bar. The ship computer and your pet should have short friendship bars, and then the romanceable characters should have longer friendship bars to fill with more events outside of dates. The fishing minigame is microbe hunting, and not only is it critical to 100% the game, it's boring, repetitive, and honestly a little too difficult for a chill game unless you turn on a setting in the options menu. Upgrades to your fishing equipment doesn't make anything easier or faster - it just allows more mistakes. You will play the boring circle minigame 300 times if you want to complete the bar for them. Everything else is good if not great. Despite the complaints I have above, I think this game is an B+, but needs work to hit an A.

Very well-made farming sim and the only one I've played to be sci-fi themed rather than fantasy or contemporary rural. Wears its Stardew inspiration on its sleeve, from things like the available activities down to the UI and sound design. Farming is unique because you're growing things in planters on a spaceship, so you can't just hoe the ground. You have to build a planter, and then also make sure you have enough energy to run it. If not, you'll have to build more solar panels to place on your outer hull. This might sound like too much effort, but honestly it's fine. The game doesn't seem to expect you to build up to massive plots of farmland, you'll earn more than enough money with a modest amount of planters. Instead of farm animals, you have alien creatures (called "xenos") who produce goods for you. These are pretty cool and imaginative, and it was genuinely interesting seeing how they changed as they matured. The NPCs are well written and likable. Like Stardew, you gain friendship once per day by talking to them, and can give them two gifts a week, with a birthday gift giving more friendship. That being said, I managed to fully befriend all of the initial crew within the first year just by talking to everyone every day and only giving birthday gifts. Of course, you can eventually date and marry the NPCs. I found myself in a genuine dilemma between 2 of them, which is a sign of how well-made they are. The one thing I think is lacking about the NPCs is that they could use more context-based dialogue. Like when I find someone LARPing in the park, or meeting up at night with her secret lover, it would be cool if they had unique dialogue about that. The dialogue also feels pretty limited at the beginning, but each NPC gets more dialogue lines as they advance in friendship, and also after every major quest milestone. All that being said, this is a 2 person team and they did an insane amount of writing already, so I can't blame them too much. Your spaceship is where most of the game takes place, but you can travel to different planets (taking 3 days of travel between each planet). Each planet offers unique seeds to grow on the farm, a "quest" area, and the planetary surface which acts like the mines. The quest area will have NPCs, one of which will ask you to gather a bunch of things for them so you can advance the plotline. After finishing the story, you can re-visit the planets for one more quest each. The surface, as mentioned, is like the mines, where you must traverse 15 (later 30) "floors" fighting enemies and mining ore. What's a bit unfortunate is that you use the same tool for fighting and mining (a laser gun) so fighting uses energy. This wasn't so bad later in the game, but felt pretty limiting early on. Like Stardew, as you progress the game you'll find items that increase your energy capacity, although the ways you acquire them aren't as varied (they're all either found on the 15th floor when exploring a planet for bought from a special shop). Finally, microbes. This minigame sort of acts like a replacement for fishing, where you use your microbe detector to find various microscopic organisms around the ship. Once you find one, you have to catch it by clicking when a shrinking circle is within a certain zone. It's all timing/rhythm, and pretty easy, much easier than Stardew's fishing game. Of course, you can also decorate your house and area. There's a lot of options for furniture and decorations, maybe even more than Stardew? Overall, I very much enjoyed the 74 hours I spent with it, and found getting all achievements not that painful. The devs are still updating the game, and I'll probably come back to it if the updates are substantial enough. One thing I think it could desperately use is more late-game money sinks. In my last month or so of the game I didn't even bother growing crops or collecting items from my xenos, as I was really just waiting for my meteorites to process so I could finish the museum. I did spend a lot of money on those meteorites, to be fair, but there was really nothing substantial for me to buy after the first 5 months or so. It would also be nice to get more holidays, as there's currently only 2, a friendship day in the middle of the year and a new year's party (although the game does mention the existence of Halloween in this universe).
