looK INside, developed and published by Unexpected, is an indie narrative puzzle game that invites players into the intimate world of a French family through the lens of a scrapbook. Released on January 22, 2020, the game offers a unique blend of storytelling and interactive puzzles, allowing players to explore personal histories and uncover family secrets. The gameplay centers around Manon, who discovers a scrapbook in her attic that chronicles the lives of her ancestors. Each page of the scrapbook presents a vignette filled with photographs, letters, and objects that players can interact with to piece together the family's history. The puzzles are not traditional in the sense of complex mechanics but are more about observation and empathy, encouraging players to connect emotionally with the artifacts and the stories they tell. The art style of looK INside is minimalist yet expressive, with hand-drawn illustrations that convey warmth and nostalgia. The color palette is soft and earthy, enhancing the intimate atmosphere of the game. Each page of the scrapbook is meticulously designed, with attention to detail that makes the exploration feel personal and meaningful. Musically, the game features a subtle and evocative soundtrack that complements its tone. The music is unobtrusive, allowing players to immerse themselves in the narrative without distraction. The sound design also plays a crucial role in enhancing the emotional depth of the experience, with ambient sounds that bring the scrapbook to life. While the game offers a heartfelt and engaging experience, it is relatively short, with gameplay lasting around two to three hours. Some players may find the lack of traditional gameplay elements such as combat or complex puzzles limiting. However, for those who appreciate narrative-driven experiences and the exploration of personal histories, looK INside offers a poignant and memorable journey. In conclusion, looK INside is a beautifully crafted game that combines storytelling, art, and music to create an immersive experience. Its focus on empathy and personal connection sets it apart from other puzzle games, offering players a chance to reflect on the past and the stories that shape our lives. Despite its brevity, the game leaves a lasting impression and is a testament to the power of interactive storytelling. Rating: 8/10

An interesting puzzle game about looking into your family history. Bits of it can be a bit difficult as there's very specific spots to click that can easily be overlooked, but its a relaxing and fun experience. Quite short to complete.

Very good! I enjoyed it a lot, though honestly i did get stuck a few times, but the overall experience is fun This is a unique puzzle point and click game about a girl who found a journal/ book that describes her family member's story and life, though you have to figure out the name of the family members and their relationship to each other through the scenes portrayed in the book. Whenever you correctly solved something, the narrator will say some snippets about the family member in question, and you'll also uncover parts of a portrait and a name, that you'll need to complete the family tree. There are a total of 3 chapters in the beginning, and each chapter can expand into another chapter (once you solved the scene/ chapter), so making the game have 6 chapters overall. The ending is not complete yet, as this is the first chapter Pros: - Very aesthetic artwork/ graphic, has a semi-cartoony look with a cozy feel, i really like the vibrancy of the characters and the environment! The animations are great, most of the objects in the scene can be interacted with, though not all of them is necessary for solving the puzzle, some are just for entertainment purposes, which speaks volume for the attention to detail! - Good, creative and engaging puzzles that makes you think, and very satisfying once you've figured it out; most of them are intuitive for me once i get the hang of it, but you have to REALLLLY look closely at your surroundings for answers, and search for things you can interact with (there will either be a hand icon, or a cogwheel icon if an item can be interacted with). - The story is good, mainly about life and the struggles/ happiness that they faced, though you don't really get a clear picture of what the situation is most times; at the end there is a short bio of each of the family members which provide a little more explanation, though while you're playing the game maybe you wan't get a very clear idea of their story, because the narrator will just say some details of the member but not really go into specifics, and the order of what the narrator says also depends on which puzzles you solved first in the scene. - Worth the price (i got it on HUGEEE discount) with the amount of gameplay it offers and the artwork - Nice musics, and the narrator is voiced Cons: - You have to pixel hunt most of the time in the game, as the game gives you no direct clues/ answers to what you need to do next, and there is no highlights for the items that you can interact with, and sometimes the window of the interactable item is pretty small that you won't notice it well, ANDDDD sometimes it gets overlaid with the existing character like the plants in the garden, the plants behind Isa are hard to get even after moving her aside - The family tree branching is kinda weird for me, like when i already know the relationship, i don't know how to put the portraits in the tree properly, since the branching is like "huhhhh?". Though maybe that's just me not knowing how family tree branches work? - A few bugs, like the one i encountered is that some of the items remain frozen after i clicked it, luckily it got working again after going to the game menu. - Some of what the narrator says doesn't tally with what was being written. i'm playing in English mode. - No hint system provided, you need a walkthrough if you get stuck (thank you walkthrough writers!) All in all i enjoyed playing the game, currently the game has 2 chapters, i bought them in a bundle so not sure if there's a chapter 3 or more happening, but this chapter is great for me, 8/10
