I thought Nobel Prize level romance. Mana tau become one whole Chinese drama mixed with Norway tourism advertisement and lonely boy fantasy package. First thing ah, the game intro already damn funny. “You are exchange student in Norway.” Wah suddenly every woman in Norway got problem only YOU can solve. Brother, you go there study or become international emotional support ikan bilis? You stay with three girls: * one cheerful Chinese girl * one mysterious landlady * one Norwegian girl learning Chinese * plus childhood friend DLC emotionally waiting in background Aiyo this fellow got more women around him than my pasar got flies around shrimp bucket. And all the girls ah, every one look at main character like he 财神爷 descend from heaven. This guy personality flatter than expired canned sardine but somehow every woman in Bergen become magnet. The main character walk into room: “Hello.” Girl immediately: “I feel safe around you.” WHY. HE LOOK LIKE ACCOUNTING STUDENT WHO SAY “erm actually” DURING FAMILY DINNER. Then the Norway setting ah. Wah beautiful lah not gonna lie. Snow mountain, cozy room, nice lighting. Every scene look like IKEA catalog suddenly become dating simulator. Developer probably receive sponsorship from Norway Tourism Board. But after 5 hour ah, I realize something. THIS GAME NOT ABOUT LOVE. THIS GAME ABOUT PEOPLE STARING AT EACH OTHER VERY INTENSELY. Every conversation: 😐 “There is something I want to tell you.” 😐 “Actually… never mind.” 😐 “No… maybe another time.” 😐 *sad piano music* WALAO EH JUST TALK LAH. My fish market aunties settle family drama faster while scaling tilapia. Then got one mysterious woman line. Wah lao eh. Suddenly become supernatural story. One minute romance game. Next minute witch energy. I thought my Steam accidentally switch genre already. Even curator review mention got supernatural “witch line” inside. This game got mood swing stronger than auntie menopause during rainy season. One route: Cute romance. Another route: Emotional trauma. Another route: Existential depression while snow falling outside window. Another route: “Maybe love is goodbye.” THANK YOU TITLE VERY SUBTLE. The dialogue ah… sometimes very deep. Sometimes sound like Facebook motivational quote reposted by single uncle. “You cannot force destiny.” “People meet only to separate.” “Love is pain.” Brother relax lah I just click mouse only. But okay lah, some emotional scenes actually hit quite hard. Especially when characters stop behaving like perfume commercial and start talking like real human. Game got heart one. Even Reddit people say this one more serious and story-focused compared to other horny FMV games. Because nowadays many FMV dating games ah: Girl appear. Boob physics. Done. This one at least got effort. Story got build-up. Characters got baggage heavier than AirAsia extra luggage charge. BUT STILL FUNNY. Because the pacing sometimes like auntie cutting fish. CHOP CHOP CHOP suddenly emotional confession. Then before you recover: BOOM montage. BOOM another girl route. BOOM violin music. BOOM dramatic snow. I cannot breathe. And the romance choices ah. You choose one wrong dialogue only suddenly relationship become colder than Norwegian winter. Girl: “What do you think about my future?” Option: 1. “I support you.” 2. “I believe in you.” 3. “Nice weather today.” If choose wrong one immediately bad ending. Girl probably migrate to Iceland and hate men forever. Also ah, the game trying very hard to make main character look attractive intellectually. Girls always say: “You understand me unlike others.” SISTER THIS MAN JUST ASKED IF REINDEER EAT PIZZA. One thing I respect though: No ultra hardcore degenerate nonsense. Steam page already say mostly sexual innuendo and revealing clothes only. So whole game got that “trying to be classy but still slightly horny” energy. Like rich auntie wearing fake Gucci at wedding dinner. And the acting ah honestly not bad. Some scenes awkward lah but that actually make it more realistic. Real romance also awkward what. Not every boyfriend can speak like Korean drama CEO. Sometimes man just stand there buffering like old Windows XP. The best part honestly is how sincere the game feels. Developer even wrote whole message saying story is the main attraction, not just foreign pretty girls. Respect lah. Can feel the passion. Can also feel the budget sweating heavily. Overall verdict: Recommended if: * You like FMV dating sims * You enjoy emotional romance * You want cozy Norway vibes * You like multiple endings * You enjoy staring contests with attractive people * You are lonely after 11PM Not recommended if: * You expect realistic human rizz * You hate slow emotional dialogue * You cannot tahan dramatic piano music every 8 minute * You allergic to “sad beautiful woman looking outside window” scenes Final score: 8 frozen salmon out of 10. Playing this game brought back so many memories. I was in a similar situation — studying and working in a foreign country when I met someone who shared the same background. We connected deeply, the way only people navigating the same quiet struggles can. Yet, like all good things, our time together eventually came to an end. To the developers: thank you for making the game so I can relive that bittersweet experience.
戀愛從離別開始裏面雖然只有3個主角（或者4個吧）但攤分整個游戲的戲份，三個主角各自的故事都非常完整，及頗有深度。 之前玩過的其他游戲（美女1/2）我覺得是喜劇第一、故事第二、戀愛第三。這款卻是故事和戀愛為中心，反而搞笑的橋段就比較少（但覺得不令游戲沉悶）。當然，兩個方向各有優劣，我也很難直接把這兩類影游直接作比較。如果說 《美女》 是一杯啤酒，那麽我覺得《戀愛從離別開始》就是一杯紅酒。《戀愛從離別開始》要到後期，我覺得大概第三/四章左右吧，才開始展現出其獨特的故事線。 我覺得買/玩任何游戲前都先要調整下期望。如果你是想要故事性重、能同裏面角色產生共鳴的游戲，我絕對可以推介這款。如果你是想放鬆一下、笑一笑，也許這不是你杯茶。 個人最喜歡瓔珞的故事綫，可惜也實在比較短。踏遍江山，出國游歷，才知道自己最嚮往的, 不是外面那新奇的人與事物。而是一直陪伴著自己，默默耕耘的人。這和我自己的出國讀書感想不謀而合。 Love Begins With Goodbye features 3 (or 4) main casts. Splitting over the entire game, however, they each have very complete story lines that fits in with their deep backstory. There are of course other FMVs that are comedy-driven games, with romance taking a backseat. Love Begins With Goodbye is a story+romance driven FMV dating simulator, with less comedic elements (not to say its boring). It's hard to compare apples to oranges. If comedy driven games are like beer, this one hits more like a glass of wine. I'd argue the story gets much better starting from chapter 3/4. Before buying or playing any game, expectations need to be made clear. If you are looking for a story-driven game with characters that you can resonate with, Love Begins With Goodbye is definitely a recommendation. If you want to turn off your brain after a long day and just have a quick laugh, perhaps this isn't your cup of tea. I liked Yingluo's story line the most, even if its the shortest. Searching wide and far from home, only to find out that the best was always behind your back at home. That resonates well with myself after leaving home to study abroad.
Haven't fully finished every route yet. This is one of FMV that I look forward to (Until it got postponed) But I like it. I like Norway setting, it give a different vibe than the usual FMV where it tend to set in Asia. The cast is good, I don't feel overwhelm from the huge cast. While the plot is not super or ground breaking but I find myself enjoy the ride. Obviously, translation could be a mess. There are several moment that I confused on what choice lead to what. The screen can stutter in some scene as well. So overall, I enjoy the game and it worth the wait.
