Ladies and gentlemen, Walmart Returnal: - Gameplay is eerily similar with most attack patterns looking straight up lifted from Returnal - Story that is more interested in spewing cryptic nonsense at you than making sense - Really stupid ending - Still pretty fun to play and thats what really matters Still, there are quite significant teething problems here, since as far as Steam is concerned, this appears to be the first game from this studio (list not exhaustive or in any particular order): - If you played the modern Doom games and Returnal, this game is almost trivially easy, because health economy is not dialled in correctly at all and the entire game is designed around the player having auto-aim - The lightness of the dialogue is at times severely at odds with the visual presentation and the story is game is telling - There are no Iframes on getting hit. which means while the game is overall insanely easy, the Seraphs and the final boss have attacks which will straight up oneshot you from full health if you dodge in the wrong direction, since you will be hit by several dozen balls within a fraction of a second - I don't think first person really works for a bullet hell game in the style of Returnal, for several bosses my main thought was "Man, I'd really like being able to see my own hitbox right now" - Some platforming segments feel a bit awkward, because air control after dashing isn't really high enough for how small some of the landing areas are All in all this is a fun, if flawed short romp and time will tell if the studio can build on this, because there certainly need to be more single player bullet hell shooters. The downsides definitely objectively exist and are numerous, but none of them went beyond minor annoyances and into dealbreakers for me. I don't think this game would have been good/varied enough to sustain a longer playtime, so the seven hours it took me to complete were just the right amount of time. PS: If you're reading Steam reviews and just as confused as I am, since this game appears to be part of some sort of culture war BS that I'm not terminally online enough to understand, I just want to say this: If you think "this game is like 80% trans people" then I genuinely urge you to back to middle school because this isn't even a media literacy issue, we are honest to god talking about basic reading comprehension. 99% of characters in this game are humans remotely plugged into various patchwork human/machine abominations against their will and a male voice coming out of a "somewhat female upper body fused to a giant metal sphere with human hands as legs" type of construct does not mean a trans person, something the characters routinely comment on themselves LMAO.

It's like a cross between Metroid Prime and Doom Eternal, with probably less combat than you'd expect and more platforming, but if you like megastructure atmosphere and dialogue with strange people who live in such a world you'll probably like it. My only complaint is that the difficulty is very low before it ramps up and starts feeling good. If you're a bullet hell sicko absolutely go for max difficulty.

I was expecting this to be more of an art project than a game, frankly, but it's actually really well put together. About 60% of the gameplay is simple 3d platforming with feel-good movement, and the other 40% is enemy encounters. The enemy and weapon variety are solid, and the boss fights are a particular highlight. Recommend to play on hardest difficulty. Oh, and the style is immaculate, of course, it adds a lot to the whole experience. I also want to highlight the characters: the dialogue and voice acting are great. The story is alright, nothing special for my taste, but it's enough to keep you engaged. I didn't like the random gender-confused moments in the game, they a off-putting and immersion breaking, but there isn't too much of that.

Don't go into Luna Abyss expecting a fast-paced shooter. It is a bullet-hell, first person platformer and exploration game with lock-on gun play that feels like a combination of Doom 2016 and Metroid Prime. Everything oozes style and atmosphere, with incredible lighting and droning sound effects. The voice-over feels fitting, albeit a bit funny at times, and overall, the game does a great job at keeping me hooked on the story. It runs incredible on my system, rarely dipping below 120 fps with everything cranked up to a mixture of epic and cinematic, on a Linux machine running Proton experimental. The difficulty is very manageable and you should at least play on Warden difficulty to feel challenged, unless you're absolutely just in for the story and exploration part. You start out with very few things to do but over time, your character unlocks new mechanics and weapons that keep the game entertaining. In some cases, flashing colors and effects can put a harsh strain on the eyes but luckily Luna Abyss comes equipped with a plethora of accessibility options which lets you tone down everything. If you're unsure if the lock-on combat isn't for you or not, just give the demo a try. I'd suggest playing with gamepad instead of M+KB because the lock-on mechanic + jumping flows more natural with a controller in hand and I also think that the camera behaves slightly differently. --- Kwalee Labs managed to craft a world that is in equal parts haunting, beautiful and creepy, with a great art style, entertaining combat and almost perfect performance. Give the demo a try, you surely won't regret it. If you like reviews about indie games, consider following [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41972991/]my curations .

This game is a masterclass in atmosphere. I don't leave reviews ever (this is literally my first one), but for this I had to. I just got to the 2nd big boss and i have loved every second. Its doom and gloom, but it somehow makes it beautiful. The story so far is great. I will say the gun fights can be easy with the auto targeting, but the bosses are still challenging. You need to use all the tools that are given to you. Not in a tedious way, it flows with the fight. I hope you read this and dive in head first. Also, don't let the demo tell you everything. there is so much more that this game has to offer outside of that snap shot. Warden out.
