This is another great game with princess maker genre. The game is fully japanese voice acting with live 2D and many good quality CGs. The presentation of the game is top tier for this game type. The story somehow reminds me of Madoka Magica, but a sweet version. It takes at least 3 runs for the full story, each run will take about 5-7 hours. Achievements in the game are quite lenient. Unlike Volcano Princess, you don't have to get every career endings for 100%. To see all friendship event is probably only easy to miss achievement. Runs perfectly on steam deck.
The true successor of the Princess Maker series: coherent plot, modern UI, quality CGs, animated avatars, powerful cast of voice actors, and streamlined experience. We don't deserve this level of production quality for an indie game's price point. The main story unfolds in different lights during the 2nd and 3rd playthroughs, playing nicely into the replay mechanics. This is a full-blown visual novel even if you take away all the scheduling elements. And the story itself... I did not expect to shed tears in this game. The plot was predictable in the beginning, until the last beat got me. The daughter herself acts as a fair self-insert character for female players, despite her rather strong personality. That is a pretty impossible needle to thread. Outside the main story, the replay-for-a-different-ending thing is quite fun, especially when the daughter turns violent or starts a cult. The raising simulator part does get a bit repetitive. The game only gives you around 30 free scheduling days. The game never really lets you settle. As a result, the romance subplots never build real chemistry. As a side note, the Japanese text in this game is very gentle on the reader. This is the first game I could read in Japanese at roughly the same speed as in English. This restored my confidence after attempting an overly-difficult title. Please make more of this kind of game!
Magical Princess is one of those games that makes you go "Wait... how much did I pay for this?!" And I mean that in a good way~ At its core, it's a daughter-raising sim in the tradition of Princess Maker, where you guide a little girl through her childhood by scheduling classes, jobs, adventures, and heartfelt family moments. And oh, does it deliver~ The art is gorgeous; there are so many unique CGs and event illustrations that it honestly feels like the devs were just gleefully showing off. Full Japanese voice acting, lovely Live2D animations, a charming OST, and a turn-based combat system...all packed into a game that costs less than a fancy lunch. And the family bond at the heart of the story is tender and sincere. Replayability? Well, it depends on how you think about it. The game does have multiple endings and tons of variations in conversation, but the raising process itself can start to feel a little repetitive after a few playthroughs. It's the kind of game where each new run reveals delightful surprises, but the day-to-day rhythm stays mostly the same. That said, it's not without its little thorns... The schedule system can feel a bit too packed, leaving you wishing for more free days to just hang out with characters and deepen those relationships organically. And the story leans heavily into a cozy light-novel vibe. It's lovely if that's your thing, but it does lack a sense of tension or dramatic stakes at times, especially toward the end in NG+. Also, while the CGs and portraits are stunning, the chibi animations during work and combat scenes can look a tad stiff by comparison, which creates a noticeable contrast. Not a dealbreaker, but you do notice it~ In short, if you have even a passing interest in raising sims, this one is an absolute steal. A whole lot of heart wrapped in a very pretty package. Btw... EDIT: Just felt like I had to edit and add more after hitting my first ending. The New Game+ has got me so excited for more and to unlock more secrets about the game. This game is absolutely the best of its kind, and I 100% recommend it. The production value on this is absolutely insane. Live2D, clean art, full voice acting, a great UI...this is, without a doubt, one of the best child-raising simulators out there. There aren't many (I've only played Volcano Princess, Machine Child and Drapline, really) but that doesn't mean I don't recognize quality when I see it. These games straddle the balance between management and gameplay, and this game hits it well. There's a lot of different things to do, but not so much as to be overwhelming, and my first run has felt incredibly good so far. My only small complaint is that the story feels very much light novel anime, too chill and not enough stakes, but then again, maybe that's what you like! Looking at the pictures on the store page, there's obviously a massive variety of paths you can take, so perhaps some of the depth is sacrificed for sheer variety. Either ways, at this price, this is an immediate buy for anyone who's even vaguely interested in this kind of game. I'm curious to see how it builds up to the ending, and how replayable it feels!
Only finished one run through so far, but I can already confidently say this game is a gem. Not only is this a triumphant return of the long dead daughter raising sim genre, but it is also a realization of the fictional game all the otome based isekai web novel authors have collectively dreamed up in the past decade. Ever wondered what the mythical fantasy game all those authors based their stories on was? The game where the main heroine moves from her home village to the capital where she studies in a magic school, fights monster in dungeons to get strong enough to save the world, and dates the colorful cast of boys and girls? Magical Princess is that game. Someone finally stepped up to make it a reality, and it is glorious.
