If the graphics of this game caught your eyes on a first impression, then do not hesitate! GRAB THIS GAME! You will not regret it! This game has one of the most beautiful maps I have seen in YEARS! Every part of the map is a visual MASTERPEICE ! The mysteries are as great as the graphics as well! It's quite reminiscent to Danganronpa, which is developed by the same company. Unlike Danganronpa, you'll be debating Mystery Phantoms in Mystery Labyrinths, not Students in Class Trials! And all mysteries are brilliantly written! About Master Boom-Killer Archives: RAIN CODE Plus Rain Code is a gripping mystery adventure where you'll be playing in third person as The Labyrinth Delving Elite Bomb Defuser, He Who Tames the God of Darkness, Holy Great Detective Warrior of Light, Yuma! Your story begins in a storage room of a train station with amnesia. You discover that you have signed a pact with a death God named Shinigami who accompanies you throughout your journey, and that your right pocket contains an envelope with a letter from the World Detective Organization (WDO) instructing Yuma to ride the Amaterasu Express in order to reach the Nocturnal Detective Agency (NDA), which is the WDO's Kanai Ward branch. Your first mystery begins on a train, but after dealing with that hassle, you arrive in Kanai Ward, where all communication is shut out from the outside world. It has been continuously raining in Kanai Ward for 3 years. Everything in Kanai Ward is handled by Amaterasu Corporation and Peacekeepers. The Peacekeepers control information and conceal anything inconvenient to them. You aren't alone with Shinigami, though. Before reaching the NDA and after reaching the NDA, you'll meet Master Detectives from the World Detective Organization with their own unique Forte's (abilities). Together with the NDA, you will not allow mysteries to go unsolved. They shall be eradicated with sagacious wit and indomitable will. Together, you will enter Mystery Labyrinths created by "yours truly" , recreate crime scenes within Yuma's mind, use Solution Keys you gather during investigations to solve mysteries and put an end to the culprit's life! Yuma is ultimately stationed at Kanai Ward for a very good reason. With the NDA, Yuma must solve Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret & the Great Global Mystery! Will Yuma, Shinigami & the NDA be able to eradicate all mysteries from this world? Play to find out! My Review of Master Boom-Killer Archives: RAIN CODE Plus I have to say, this game exceeded my expectations. For starters, the presentation is absolutely incredible. It's triple A graphics within a mystery game without any exaggeration. I know there's a lot of fanservice within it, but you have to admit that all those animations with Shinigami are peak as well as the dialogues with her. She's such a memorable character. Learning the secrets of: Yuma & Makoto's identity, the Blank Week Mystery, the Meat Buns, the Coalescence, the restricted area and Amaterasu's top secret research project from 3 years ago were details that really came as a shock to me. The writing is top tier quality. This a great story I won't be forgetting! Ultimately, this game signs off with a beautiful message about learning and accepting to coexist with one another and it really touched me as the real world is so polarized and full of hatred right now. Unity is truly a powerful message. My Pain Points About Master Boom-Killer Archives: RAIN CODE Plus I wish I didn't have anything negative to say, but there are a few things I'm dissatisfied about with Rain Code. - The lack of accessible buildings. The outside environment including building exteriors are visually stunning but we can't enter most buildings. In fact, crime scene buildings also disallow inside access after their respected mystery is solved. I wish we could enter a lot of buildings, even if they're useless for story progression. It would feel a lot more immersive and allow us to level up as a detective more as we could investigate what's inside of them. - Non-voiced lines in side quests, really? There's not a lot of side quests, they should have had voice acting! Also there were unvoiced lines with NPCs during main quest interrogations as well! It breaks the immersion in such a beautiful, atmospheric city when you can't hear the citizens speak. - Additionally, there were a few technical hiccups; for example, Yuma clips right through the door of Dr. Huesca's lab when going in to investigate and Dr. Huesca's hair on the monitor outside his security chambers was black instead of gray. There were also moments where I was unable to rebut with the shield when Assist is used. If the world was a bit more immersive and the gameplay was a bit more polished, Rain Code would be flawless. BUT WAIT! WE NEED A SEQUEL TO RAIN CODE! - I'd really love to see a sequel in which Yuma and/or Kurumi solve mysteries in a new city, like that desert city at the end. I have a feeling Kurumi might be the next protagonist with the Book of Death in her hands . - I'd also love to see more information regarding the Crimson Red Rain mentioned in a side quest in Chapter 3 unveiled in a sequel as well as information regarding the whereabouts of Kurumi's grandfather who vanished after refusing to take a blood test. I refuse to believe he was killed, I'd like to imagine that he actually escaped Kanai Ward instead of being killed and having no homunculus to replace him. - I feel like we also need more upper layer lore about the Unified Government. Why was the UG seeking an immortal homunculi army as early as 10 years ago in the first place? Is the UG in need of defense or in need of an offense? Also, how large is the UG exactly? Which countries are a part of it and why was it formed? - Lastly, who can't forget about the Chief DLC (substory) ending? I want to see the zombified homunculus Chief use his wife's regenerative neuron medicine to turn back to normal again in a sequel despite his currently extremely low intelligence as a result of "dieing" as a homunculi! Make Chief return! We could also use a prequel perhaps, providing background story on: how the UG & WDO was formed, how Yuma became Number One, how he discovered Kanai Ward, why Yuma wanted to investigate Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret, and how Makoto was made by the Unified Government . Here are some gorgeous screenshots I took, feel free to leave them a like, more is on my profile! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3714057727 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3716443482 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3716441928 Signing off with the WDO Creed & quotes from Number One! "A detective must never overlook a mystery. Any and all truths must be exposed. A detective must always prioritize solving a case. Emotions must be discarded to reach a perfect solution through a perfect deduction." - WDO Creed "I want to eradicate all unsolved mysteries from this world and bring happiness to everyone. Although it's a known fact that some truths are cruel in nature...But exposing the truth to make everyone happy is the perfect solution in my mind. I want to make a world where no one weeps while imprisoned by unsolved mysteries." - Number One Overall Rating: 9/10

A lot of people complain that this game has far too many cut scenes or dialogue that interrupts gameplay, if you know anything about these developers you should know what you’re getting into first of all the aesthetic and atmosphere is really unreal. I really wish we get another game. That’s like this. It was super fun exploring the city in the forever unending rain I can’t lie. Most of the mysteries are pretty predictable as long as you’re a paying somewhat attention they shouldn’t fly over your head too much or be a big surprise graphically everything was super smooth. Animations were amazing. The models were super high renders. Honestly, I highly recommend this in the big 2026

Lovely narrative game. Its like danpanronpa if it was just mysteries and the setting was a jrpg city. It feels like a jrpg without any combat. Negative is just that it can feel a little slow sometimes. the substories are very cool if you like the other detectives. They all have very different moods and are mostly narrative.

An interesting and fun twist on the Danganronpa formula, a more traditional murder mystery premise with class trials replaced by the more minigame heavy mystery labyrinths. Overall easier than Danganronpa with a way smaller cast of still fun characters. Story kept me reasonably engaged the whole way through too. Graphically extremely similar to DR with character models looking like something right out of those games, the game even retains the pink blood aesthetic/censorship (?) those games liked to use

Time to write the review for a game I played and re-played: Master Detective Archives: Rain Code . I first finished the game on Nintendo Switch — I even own the collector's edition — and as a big fan of Danganronpa, I was hyped from the start. Since it's from the same creators, my expectations were high. Voice Acting: The First Critical Choice Before diving into gameplay or story, here's a crucial point that may impact the entire experience: choose Japanese voice acting . Let me explain why. I played the entire game with the Japanese voices and absolutely loved both Yuma and Shinigami. Their chemistry, dialogue delivery, and especially her laugh (kyakyakya!) felt like a spiritual successor to Monokuma’s iconic pupupupu . It sticks with you and makes you want to mimic it. Shinigami's character is pervy and utterly hilarious in Japanese — it adds to the charm. On PC, I decided to switch to English and replayed the prologue. Suddenly, Yuma felt off, and Shinigami became annoying . To be fair, the English voice acting for the other Master Detectives characters is fantastic, but the main duo truly shines only in Japanese. Which is a pity. So again: play with Japanese voice acting. You won't regret it. Story: Amnesia, Death, and Dark Secrets The story centers on Yuma Kokohead, an amnesiac who wakes up with only one clue — a paper stating he’s a Trainee Detective. He soon discovers that his memory loss is connected to Shinigami. (This isn’t a spoiler — it’s literally part of the introduction.) A pact was made: he sacrificed his memories in exchange for… something. His mission: travel to Kanai Ward and investigate its “Ultimate Secret.” Along the way, several cases emerge, running parallel to the main plot and eventually converging toward that ultimate mystery. I had a blast solving these cases and diving into the Mystery Labyrinths. The antagonists? As wild as Monokuma. But here, there’s a shift: more adults, more maturity . The tone is darker, but the game skillfully balances it with humor and self-aware jokes, making the ride enjoyable without losing depth. Gameplay: Fluid and Addictive This is where the game really stands apart from Danganronpa. If Danganronpa was a visual novel with murder mystery and adventure elements, Rain Code flips the formula — it’s primarily an adventure and murder mystery game with light visual novel components. And I loved it. The gameplay is smooth and much more dynamic. The Mystery Labyrinths, the investigations — everything feels more immersive and interactive. Visuals: Stylish and Thoughtfully Designed The graphics are stunning. From crime scene transitions to city exploration to the surreal Mystery Labyrinths, everything is filled with creativity and love. It’s clear the developers poured their hearts into this game. Achievements, Easter Eggs & Replay Value The achievements are a definite bonus. I’m aiming for 100% completion, and I’ve already been replaying some cases for fun — there are tons of easter eggs , especially for Danganronpa fans. I’ve also picked up new details that I missed during my initial Switch playthrough. Characters, Lore, and Final Thoughts Rain Code is not Danganronpa, and shouldn’t be compared to it . It’s a different game with its own universe, cast, and tone. While playing I strongly suggest collecting all the memory shards . That makes a huge difference on getting to know better the other Master Detectives and Yakou Furio (head of the Kanai Ward detective agency). The PC version (PLUS) also adds more depth, especially through extra character interactions and memories through the substories, which I highly recommend — they can enrich the narrative significantly. Verdict Yes — I highly recommend this game. Set the voice acting to Japanese. Sit back. Enjoy the twists and turns. Laugh with Shinigami-chan. Kyakyakya!
