I first played Ghost Trick on NDS in 2011, then on iOS a couple of years later. 13 years later, I'm playing it again for a third time. I almost never replay singleplayer games, much less for a third time a decade later. So why am I playing this again? Because I firmly believe Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, despite its goofy sounding name, is a complete masterpiece, and one of the greatest games ever made . What makes Ghost Trick so great? [*]The 2D art is gorgeous with buttery smooth animations across the world and characters, and it looks even better in this remastered version. [*]The gameplay is unique and innovative. While originally designed for touch controls on the NDS, it has no issues transitioning to other platforms. The puzzles are also fun; not easy enough to breeze through, and not difficult enough that you have to constantly reference guides. It requires you to think, but never for too long. [*]Every character in the game in the game is full of personality and quirky in their own way; even the really minor ones are given humorous dialogue and animations. [*]The soundtrack is just incredible. Every moment, every character; has a theme fully befiting and characterising the moment or individual. It's been over a decade, but I still recognise the theme of each of the characters every time I listen to it. [*]And finally, the story. Ghost Trick's story is packed with mysteries, but the game paces the answers to each of the mysteries extremely well. The narrative keeps you hooked from beginning to end and each chapter just leaves you wanting more. The plot is an absolute delight and even playing this for the third time, I still find myself greatly enjoying it, although of course, there's nothing quite like experiencing it for the first time. There just aren't that many games that convey every emotion and whose stories sit with you for years to come; Ghost Trick is just one of those games. In summary If you've played this before, absolutely give this a play again for the remastered graphics and some cool extra content (early illustrations and artwork). If you have never played this before and enjoy great characters and a great story, congratulations, because you're in for a real treat!

Was curious if the ending will make me almost cry again after 10+ years since the first playthrough. It did.

If anyone would ask me what my favorite Ace Attorney game is, I'd laugh, and show them Ghost Trick instead. (And then whisper Trials and Tribulations under my breath) Ghost Trick is a wonderful and focussed experience with only a few puzzles that are kinda bad.

Ghost Trick is a short-but-sweet puzzle game with the same director as Ace Attorney. Originally made for the DS in 2010, the vibes and catchy music are all still here in this remaster. The story is pretty solid, with mysteries that genuinely had me excited to keep playing and see the plot unravel. The best part is that all your questions will be answered by the end of the story. I wasn't the most keen on the ending but it was still a great experience throughout. I would definitely recommend this if you like puzzle games or Ace Attorney. Even if you don't play many puzzles, this is a complete experience that you can pickup and feel satisfied from with very little commitment.

just play it. play it blind. don't look at anything about it. if you like ace attorney you'll probably like this. if you like tightly written mystery plots with expertly deployed twists, you'll like this. if you like the idea of only being able to interact with the game world through setting up massive rube goldberg machines, you'll like this. it's clever, it's funny, and i can't tell you anything about it. play ghost trick
