Hmm, I had a negative review after revisiting the game and finding every mechanic seemingly working differently yet again. I was upset that my many hours of gameplay and knowledge had been mostly erased, as every significant update to this game brings a drastic change in mechanics (and a loss of recorded progress, i.e. your earned character frames). The dev left a comment about older versions now being playable via the beta tab, which I will definitely be using, as I really did enjoy some of the older versions of the game (where the bulk of my time was spent playing). I do still want to highlight that I am quite annoyed at the constant mechanic changes in the game, BUT after re-reading the patch notes it seems like the dev is really working at polishing their game. I just don't know if I fully enjoy the direction it is going... (mod support is obviously a positive!) That being said, I can now play my preferred, older version of the game (albeit missing some of the newer items / interactions) so I will modify my review to a positive. I urge caution in purchasing, but I think new players who didn't have a lot of built up memory of outdated items may be able to dive into whatever the current version is doing well enough. To the Dev: if you continue work on this game, I hope you have an opportunity to add different modes that incorporate item effects from different versions, but I can understand if that is too much time sink to be a reasonable return. I am satisfied playing older builds.

“No Tutorial. This game believes learning should be done through experimentation and discovery, not instruction.” And with that, my heart was conquered. This game is great, both in concept and execution, and I don’t get how it currently only has mixed reviews. I’m enjoying it like candy from hell – it’s fast, deep, elegant, and incredibly addictive. And I love that the dev is still so engaged and committed to its improvement. Kudos to axilirate.

I’ve been playing this game for a long time—ever since the test phase. Every time you do a major rework, I’ll usually run a few characters past floor 30 or 60 to check it out. With each update, I can really feel the effort you put into fixing mechanics, balancing, or adding new ideas. But sometimes those big changes end up removing the charm or fun from older versions, which is a bit of a shame. Honestly, every version has had its own unique flavor, and the content just keeps piling up. At the same time though, with more systems added, the game is also getting harder and harder. So here’s my suggestion: Maybe take an approach more like traditional online games, where old mechanics aren’t just overwritten. Instead, try to repackage them so they still exist (I get that this might be tough to do). For example, since the game is about “entering the tower,” you could add new towers—each one a different world with its own rules (basically like different versions). That way, new players can start with a simpler, less calculation-heavy tower, while veterans can jump straight into the latest, more complex rules. And if you could add even a light bit of story—maybe something that explains the differences between towers and gives players a reason to fight—that would make it even better. Just some humble thoughts. You’ve done a great job so far!

This is a tough game to leave a review for. Like, I'm 127 hours in, so I must like it, right? And like...yes. But also no. The problem is that I do like the core game play style. But I make a habit of not buying very many early access games, and this is VERY MUCH an early access game, despite not being listed as one. Stats have changed; what stats *do* have changed; subclasses and what THEY do have changed dramatically (actually, when I bought the game, most of the characters didn't HAVE subclasses. like at all! despite NOT being listed as Early Access); items have different stats or do different things; item sets have changed. Basically the game is in a constant state of flux, and while I have enjoyed most of the evolutions of it, the constant change has been less fun. It's kind of exhausting to never know quite how to play. And there's also the other downside of constantly changing things: the bugs. It is constantly frustrating to lose a run because, well, you're not sure why. They somehow managed to hit you before you hit them, despite that being the wrong order of things; or maybe you got murdered by a debuff that should have been cleansed but for some reason wasn't. Maybe the game did math wrong and decided that 1+1 was 5, actually. Sometimes that works in your favor, but I'd be happy losing that if it meant getting rid of all the times it worked against you. So in conclusion: if you like this sort of game, AND you are okay with it being early access: definitely get it. If you aren't okay with early access, grab it on sale (or even if it isn't on sale, it's like $10 normally right now), but maybe hold off playing until - well, I'm not sure how any of us will know when it's actually finished.

Actually got much better than the broken state the game was in with the previous update due to the most recent one. I think this game is worth your while, just be warned that it felt like Early Access when it came out and while it became much more finished, most of the user reviews are just upset about the large changes the game received. I for one think the developer is doing the right thing by following their vision over leaving in problematic mechanics they don't like anymore, there should just simply be a system to install old updates to help satisfy people and make the state of reviews and information about this game more informative.
