First playthrough review time. The drawings in this game are detailed and full of color. The characters and the moving parts of the scenes look good and match the backgrounds well. However, some areas are so large that the main character looks very small, which might make it hard to see where you are. The music and the English voices are clear, though the sound sometimes cuts out unless you restart the game. The gameplay involves clicking on objects and talking to people to solve puzzles. Because this story follows an earlier game, some of the early references might be hard to understand if you have not played the first one. There are also specific puzzles where you have to choose the right words to say, but it is not always clear which choice is correct. In conclusion, the title is a solid choice for those who like this style of game. The story has some surprises and the visual style is very strong. Even though the puzzles might be hard and some parts are difficult to follow, the way the game is put together is still good.

Memoria is a richly built fantasy adventure that embraces the traditional point-and-click format while telling a story far more layered than most games in the genre. Set in the universe of The Dark Eye, it follows two protagonists separated by centuries: Geron, a young man desperately searching for a way to restore his beloved Nuri, and Sadja, a long-forgotten princess whose quest for glory once led her across a war-torn world. The game alternates between their timelines, slowly revealing how their stories intersect, how old choices ripple into the present, and how the mysteries surrounding both characters run deeper than they first appear. This dual narrative gives Memoria a breadth and sense of history that many adventure games lack, allowing players to uncover not just a single tale, but a hidden legacy that binds both heroes together. What immediately stands out is the game’s visual presentation. Memoria’s hand-painted backdrops are striking, filled with rich colors and intricate detail. From sun-scorched deserts and ancient ruins to shadowy forests and ornate halls, every location feels like it was lovingly crafted. The environments not only serve as backdrops for puzzles but help define the mood of each chapter—Sadja’s journey feels grand and dangerous, while Geron’s is more intimate and melancholy. The soundtrack strengthens this tone, alternating between gentle, mystical melodies and dramatic orchestral swells as the story demands. Coupled with solid voice acting for key characters, the game achieves an atmosphere that feels both fantastical and grounded, making the world inviting to explore even when the story veers into darker themes. Gameplay remains firmly rooted in classic adventure mechanics. You explore scenes, gather items, converse with characters, and combine objects to solve puzzles. What keeps the formula fresh is the integration of magic—Geron and Sadja each have unique abilities that affect how puzzles unfold. Geron can break or repair objects using simple spells, adding a layer of creativity to environmental challenges, while Sadja’s storyline incorporates more ambitious magical sequences that push puzzles into mystical territory. The puzzle design varies from intuitive and story-driven to occasionally obscure, and while some solutions feel cleverly integrated into the narrative, others may require trial and error or heavy use of the built-in hint system. Nonetheless, the overall pacing remains steady, and each solved obstacle generally feels like a meaningful step forward in the unfolding mystery. While Memoria excels in atmosphere and storytelling ambition, it has some limitations common to its genre. A few puzzles rely on logic that may not be immediately intuitive, and the game sometimes struggles to communicate feedback clearly when an action isn’t possible. This can lead to occasional frustration as players re-check scenes or attempt combinations that seem reasonable but do not yield results. A handful of character animations and transitions also reveal the game’s budget constraints, and some secondary characters, though interesting, don’t receive as much development as the protagonists. These flaws aren’t severe enough to undermine the experience, but they do stand out in moments where the narrative’s momentum slows. Despite these minor shortcomings, Memoria succeeds in offering a memorable, emotionally resonant fantasy adventure that rewards players who value strong storytelling. Its intertwining narratives build toward a satisfying resolution that ties together the fates of Geron and Sadja while deepening the lore of The Dark Eye universe. The game’s striking art direction, atmospheric music, and thoughtful writing make it one of Daedalic Entertainment’s standout works. For fans of point-and-click adventures, poetic fantasy tales, or games centered on mystery and character, Memoria offers a rich, absorbing journey filled with beauty, sorrow, and hope. Rating: 8/10

A great point&click, and an epic quest. It is also a great continuation of the story of "Chains of Satinav", but the new story is even more captivating. Sure, it's no masterpiece, but it works in every way it should, the backgrounds are gorgeous, and the world is immersive. Interestingly, the plot kind of mirrors the game I played as a kid. All and all, another good game in the collection of Daedalic's good ones.

As a more ambitious sequel to Chains of Satinav, Memoria bites off more than it can chew on occasion, but overall provides the same sense of adventuring wonder in a beautifully-painted fantasy land. The narrative tries to juggle and intertwine two separate strands: that of Geron and Nuri from the first game, and the story of princess Sadja from the distant past - unfortunately, the length of the game is roughly the same, and thus neither half gets enough attention in the end. The dramatic ending packs a punch, but it would have been even more impactful had we spent a few more hours getting to know Sadja, Bryda, and other characters. Mechanically, Memoria brings a small arsenal of spells to help with the puzzle solving, which iterates on Geron's limited abilities from the first game; the puzzles themselves remain fairly comprehensible with maybe one or two exceptions. Overall, it's a must-have for those who enjoyed the first Dark Eye point-and-click adventure, but I'd say Chains of Satinav remains a bit higher in my personal estimation.
