Standalone expansion for Heroes VII As the title says, this is basically a standalone expansion for Heroes VII, so it's the absolute same game, just with some small additions. If you're too lazy to go check yourself, this is the main game I'm talking about: https://store.steampowered.com/app/321960/Might__Magic_Heroes_VII/ And in case you're interested in that main game, you can check out my review for it here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/Zarturael/recommended/321960?snr=1_5_9__402 So, yeah, same things I've said for the main game is what I think about this expansion as well, because, like I said, it's the exact same game. Trials by Fire feels more like a side story than a full expansion though. It adds a single new full campaign and a two-mission epilogue campaign, some new enemies, extra items and stuff, and the most notable addition - a new faction - but you should definitely not expect any major overhauls or huge changes from the main game here. The difficulty ramps up pretty quickly though, so it’s still probably best played after finishing the main game. The story here is serviceable but not especially engaging. It expands a bit on the world and lore, yet a lot of it comes across as filler and doesn’t really match the impact of some of the previous games. Luke warm at best, just like the campaign of the main game. It’s fine for what it is, but you definitely won’t be blown away by it. There are some very good easter eggs added though, even some "returning" characters from Heroes V, which was a very nice touch. Some of the missions are nice as well gameplay-wise. Like I said, the biggest addition is the Fortress faction, bringing the dwarves as playable race into the game. They come with their own units, townscreen, and a distinct playstyle that leans on durability, fire magic, and rune mechanics. It’s a nice change of pace compared to the other factions, and while not perfectly balanced, it’s still refreshing to have another option that genuinely does play differently than the other races (dwarves mostly favor a very defensive playsyle). On the technical side, it runs the same as the base game (since it is the same game) - no better, no worse. Many people complain about technical issues, I didn't encounter any and the game was running fine. If you enjoyed the core gameplay loop, this gives you a bit more of it. The only negative side is the annoying Ubisoft launcher (Uplay) which has to run in the background the entire time. There's also a Heroes IV themed extra mini-dlc campaign, which has nothing to do with the lore and stuff in Heroes 7, but it's a nice little bonus and fun to play as well. Also, small important note - if you care about achievements, you need to launch this expansion through the main game (if you own it), because they won't unlock otherwise. This can definitely be played on its own as a separate game, but if you don't own the main game, you can't get achievements for some reason lmao. Overall, Trials by Fire is a nice bonus for fans who wanted more content, but it honestly doesn’t really stand on its own. It's worth picking up if you liked the main game and want an excuse to dive back in, or if it's on a big sale. So, yeah, this game is nothing extraordinary, but it's okay.

In the meantime of waiting for Olden Era i need to say its not that bad of HoMM title. I remembered it in worst and bugged state then it is. And i like the game loop because of the units polishment state in 7. Playable HoMM and true of words "Not great, not terrible". Before you buy opinion: I dont understand why 2 separate standalone game launchers of the exactly same game - And trial by fire version is without achievements! I dont see point of this separation. Play this version if you mod it to 7.5 or for custom sandbox or you like dwarf race. For campaign and accomplishment play the base game! APPARENTLY IF YOU OWN THEM BOTH YOU HAVE FULL GAME EXPERIENCE IN BASE GAME. SO NO DOUBLE LAUNCHERS. JUST INSTALL HEROES 7 MAIN GAME The text is based on whole HoMM 7 not just trial by fire product and i played it because is the newest official HoMM version. For quicky HoMM gaming mood fulfillment until Olden Era comes. Anyway buy only in sale and the cheapest of these two.

If the game don't launch, open the Ubisoft Connect launcher and log in. This will let you start the game normally through steam. And yes, I love this game and play it a lot. Although, I must confess, I have never played this game unmodded. I have Heroes 7.5 installed and it is great!

It feels like a Heroes game in beta, there are a lot of tiny bugs, but it still feels like a Heroes game. I could write a detailed review about small things, like when autocombat uses the "for the next battle" effect, or how some of the mid tier units feel undepowered because you get about the same amount of them as the elite units, but I wont. Even though the AI is exploitable, I find myself playing this more in singleplayer than Heroes of Might and Magic 3. The campaign is fun, I just wish it had more normal maps.
