Mohrta is okay, not really great, just okay. The main problem for me is that it's non-interactive. The promo video made me expect a living world but it turned out to be pretty much static. The environments are creative for sure but gameplaywise Mohrta is a simple shooter in which you merely fight through all the scenery. Every map has a boss and an NPC to talk to but that's all the interaction you're going to get. The most disappointing part is probably the hub town where you upgrade your items. Even after completing a level the NPCs will still stand in the same spots and say the same things as if you had just arrived (which you do after the intro btw). After completing three of the five levels some of the more noteworthy NPCs will finally change their lines. Helps with world building but it's still nothing to write home about. Since it's possible I wonder why I wasn't done more often. The action is okay, though it does get easier the more power-ups and weapons you collect. The difficulty is leaning a bit on the easy side with ammunition being readily available and the possibility to restore health and your healing doll at save points (you can also track back if required). The secondary weapon attacks are mostly useless. I didn't use them much. Not that it's necessary. Melee is also trash because you don't want to get hit at all. There are a lot of weapons but I ended up sticking with the weapons from level 1, especially the shotgun. You can sell excess weapons to focus on a few and improve those instead. So, all in all, interesting environments and tidbits of story but somewhat boring and pointless overall.

This game is very cool, but also a mixed bag. On one hand I love the atmosphere, the enemies, the town is very unique, the weapons are cool and as far as I can tell there are a lot of them. But at the same time I think it still has a bit of work before its fully realized. Things like partial reloads for certain guns would be nice, and for a game that claims "non linear" a lot of the levels are very limiting in where you can go and how you approach them. Some jumps will look completely unmakeable and let you go up, while other jumps that are 100% makeable suffer from invisible walls. This makes secrets kinda annoying to find as you never know where you can go or where you cant. Some sections ill hop right over and find a shortcut where other places that look cool are blocked off and you cant get to. That being said the base for this game is REALLY good and I hope that as updates come it will continue to improve and as a solo dev project it is quite impressive. The story is intriguing and almost everything ive gotten is fun and intuitive. The enemies are very dark souls in the way that they hit like a truck, but once you learn them they pretty much just become predictable in how you set yourself up to kill them, and the bosses are about the same with me just dash dancing around a lot of them like a circus. For a game that came out recently the base is incredibly solid and I will most likely continue the journey, But I also hope the Dev improves because i know this game can blossom into something even better with just a little more polish. That being said I would say even in this current state of the game, it is absolutely worth a buy and very unique in the way it portrays itself and is one of the more unique experiences for this type of game I've seen in a while. Any bug I've encountered which is barely any as well has had a work around in the forums and the Dev's transparency is very fast, responsive, and nice.

Are you into arthouse or surrealism? = full price buy Are you just looking for a retro boomer shooter? Wait for 25-50% off. Take a look at the screenshots. Are you into that vibe? Then you can buy it right away. This is Mohrta’s biggest selling point: its surrealist art you get to experience in the first person perspective. It’s kinda like if Dali or Beksiński made a Doom game. With a sprinkle of Vampire Hunter D on top of it. Gameplay is a solid standard FPS fare. It’s a shooter on the easy side of combat, with about 17 weapons, including some melee options. Certain animations lack a bit of a punch, but everyone should find something they enjoy. Bosses can be a bit demanding as they’re closer to a character action game than a typical boomer shooter. However, the game gives you enough healing tools that over time you can just tank through them. Levels are split into worlds you can travel into in any order, so if things get too hard, you can always go elsewhere to stock up on upgrades. Maps have a mostly linear design. Some are open areas you have to explore each corner of in any order. Others are a set of rooms with combat or simple navigation puzzles. There are occasional secrets, but they're some of the easiest to find I've seen in the genre. The story is simple and straightforward, so I’m not going to spoil it. Its biggest appeal is the world’s lore, which seems very well thought out. Characters have fun designs as well, but you won’t get much interaction out of most of them. There are few dialogue updates to the hub and overall, it falls a bit short of a Demon Souls’ type game, though I expect the comparison to be common. As for the downsides , firstly there are some performance issues, especially in world 3. Hopefully, they will get sorted out quickly. Secondly, there’s a save station system in the game. This is to say you can only save at specially designated spots. They aren’t checkpoints because they don’t respawn you if you die; you can only save there and then load back later. So unlike in say Demon’s Souls, if you find some key items or ore upgrades, dying means you will have to go fetch those things again. Personally, I ended up backtracking to the save points semi-regularly just to make sure I don’t lose the resources I found. Finally, the movement speed is extremely low. Excruciatingly so and on purpose. If you were even a smidge faster, you’d be able to walk by all projectiles. However, this means that you will traverse most maps by spamming dash+jump, which can get annoying quickly. I’d say this is the worst thing you have to put up with throughout the game, and I hope they can come up with something to address it. Maybe the ability to run in a straight line after a dash or something. Just so you can travel faster without trivializing combat. As someone who loves absurd and surrealist experiences, I’m absolutely in love with this one . My only hope is that future games from the developer will use a modern engine, be it Godot or S&box, as there are some obvious quirks to GZDoom that make the experience janky. Especially when it comes to dialogue and interacting with NPCs.

First actual boss was a furry wolf woman with massive breasts and a shotgun, if that's a positive or negative I'll leave for you to decide.
