There are good rogue-like deck builders and plenty if meh ones. This one is up near the top of that Spire (haha) for many reasons. In fact, it's a bit of a banger. Reinvigorated since it's original form (which - yes, predates STS) and back in it's original creators reinvigorated hands, this gives you all that progressive lushness through large variety and diversity. You start with a number of different archetype choices, with further to unlock and of course each has their specialisms as well as mutual cards, spells and actions. On top of that there are other various modifiers to be won, learned or earned, and different support team members whose special move can help you cross the archetype streams. Like all the best rogue-likes this gives a HUGE amount of metas to explore for each character type including upgrading, card deletion tactics and different power builds. And of course, you cant expect to win a run on your first go - your character will learn and gain the skills over a number of runs to eventually topple the big baddie. Typically you'll need around 5 runs per character. It's all done really well and is really moreish. The graphics are on point and I particularly love the voice work, snappy one liners full of bravery, sark and smugness - funny oftentimes too. Most importantly it's very very playable, works like a dream and tight, with no unnecessary baggage or annoying menus. If you're a completionist, you're looking at dozens of hours of trying things out and although it can get repetitive after a while it doesn't get boring. I'd say it's not quite as intricate as Slay the Spire (I Know, but it's the most obvious comparison to use) and not as hard / uncertain at the endgame once you've maxed your build, but is right up there and with much more choice and variation. Beware on the DLC options, buying the additional architypes might support the deserving dev, but really you want to unlock these via progression, so if you wanna throw a few extra bucks at them, maybe buy it AFTER you've unlocked them yourself? Great stuff, and a fair price too

Pretty interesting rogue-like game with cards. You draw cards, use cards, and attack the enemy. You get equipment from merch and there is only so many maps you play and slowly the enemies get harder and harder. It's pretty basic in concept, but addicting in a way. Thing is, I am only four hours in and I am already experiencing repetition so there is only so much I can endure before I say "NAH" and then time to move on to the next game.

Slay the spire and monster train veteran here. Over 5000+ hours on each. This is the first time possibly ever, at least I have no memory of it, that I disagree with a less than positive review on here. I actually really like this game. I think the cards are well made, i think the game loop is fun. For what its worth from a card game veteran its worth checking out.

Basic turn-based card-collecting RPG with enough different characters to sustain interest for a while. It was a great introduction to card-collecting games and dungeon crawlers for my 8yo, and he and I both still enjoy playing now that he's 10.
