Only 5 hours in, but it's really nice to see new devs morphing the original Slay the Spire formula and making great and unique adaptations to its core gameplay. Three Kingdoms is genuinely fun and implements several new mechanics that work well. The user interface makes the game easy to understand. Definitely a hidden gem in the ever expanding card battler ecosystem. A noticeable piece that needs some love is the English translation, where a few cards have some broken English, but they are still quite understandable, especially after you've actually played a few runs.
One of the best card battlers I've played. Clearly inspired by Slay the Spire; does a few things worse, but most of it is better than the inspiration, and that's very high praise. The card collection could be bigger, but also, it is sufficient for distinct builds for each character, all of them perfectly viable (a difficult balance to reach). And that's another thing. The characters feel so different to one another in a way very few games manage. Getting a "badass" skin for each after you beat half the game with them is a nice objective to chase at the beginning. The game is RNG heavy at first, but then, it depends on you to make coherent choices to make the best out of what is presented to you. If you lose past boss 2, that's on you. It feels fair. Enemy variety is there; the random enchantments they can get definitely spice up encounters, and getting warned on the boss of the chapter so you can adjust your deck accordingly is a good inheritance from Slay the Spire. Two things I don't like, that's it: some relics are way too powerful and warp the game around them. The bow that gives +4 Agility each time an arrow is spend is so much further behind anything else that they don't seem from the same game. And also, I'd appreciate a way to skip the animation every time you're given the choice to buff your enemies for money at the start of each chapter. Glowing review otherwise. Cheap, meaty game.
Its a very well made game. Each character has its own playstyle and different card synergies which make it alot of fun. Closest deck builder that feels like Slay the Spire. My favorite has been the female archer so far. I picked this game up on sale and had it sitting in my backlog for a bit. How I regret not touching this hidden gem much sooner. I highly doubt you will ever regret picking it up it has a uniqueness all its own and is not a clone. You can tell it was inspired by Slay the Spire but it holds very well on its own.
A fun, light-weight deckbuilder heavily inspired by Slay the Spire, but distinct enough to merit its existence on its own right. While Slay the Spire aficionados will find this to overall be an easier adventure, it nonetheless is well thought-out and requires some entertaining puzzle solving if hunting for all the achievements and final Blood Moon (Ascension).
A neat spin on the slay the spire formula. Instead of 1 phase there are 2 phases, 1 phase is the usual damage dealing and buffing cards but when its the enemies turn you can respond with another attack card or a defense card. Its not groundbreaking or anything, but its enough to stand out in the sea of slaylikes. Overall its a fine game if you want more slay the spire. Difficulty is balanced and building a decent deck is somewhat important but not entirely needed for a winning run. $9? Hell yeah. Its great as a time killer before work or school and while i've put over 500 hours into slay the spire, even im getting bored of it.
