I've been reading alot of negative reviews on the game, and from what I've read its... so odd on how other people read it compared to me. Alot of people played the game with the idea that its a commentary about internet culture or "a dark satire of internet toxicity", but... I saw it more as showing someone who gets enveloped into it, not demonizing the internet, but the central point being about ame and her mental problems. I don't see the internet as harmful, but what happens when basically Ame + her existing vulnerabilities + internet environment = increasingly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up feedback loop That's why most "good endings" have her leaving the internet, not that the internet is bad, but because her vulnerabilities get exasperated by the internet and its culture Like with normie life, when those existing vulnerabilities aren't there/aren't strong... she well... leaves the internet. There's nothing left for it to feed on and she gains no substance from interacting with it. Nothing left to pity, nothing left to exasperate It's not saying that the internet is bad, but about how when she isn't in a dark mindset, she doesn't need to feed off of that negative input. And when people try to say "she's flattened down to her mental illness and she reverts back to her bad self in most endings" it just feels like... they're missing the point of WHY she's reverting. its not her being dumb, its not anything of that. but it also is a multitude of reasonings. fear of change, fear of happiness (referenced in the galactic train ending) p-chan intentionally exploiting/reinforcing the cycle/codependancy, ect. she's not just a victim of the internet she's a victim of her own instability that feeds off of the negative input its like saying "all medicine is bad" when someone keeps abusing and overdosing on it. its not the medication. its their relationship with it and how its being used
It’s been ages since this game launched, and it’s getting an anime adapt this year. I used the chance to clear the whole game. The overall vibe is super dark, and devs care more about getting their ideas across than making the gameplay fun. I’m mentally fine like most folks so I can barely relate to the plot. Still it’s a decent adv with art that I really love. As for what the writer wants to express, it's a matter of personal interpretation.
