As the conclusion to the Nekopara visual novel series, this... kind of goes out on a whimper, to be quite honest. It's not the worst thing, but coming off the tail of Volume 4 it was going to have some extremely big shoes to fill. And on most marks it did not even come close. I give this a thumbs up still because I don't think it's of such low quality (compared to the rest of the series) that you should stay away from it, but I would only recommend this to those that are truly invested in the series and want that one final shot of Nekopara before moving to the mobile gatcha game. I'll start with the art since that's probably why most people are here- it's beautiful, just beautiful. There is no drop in quality from Volume 4, and the change of setting brings many more beautiful CGs and outfits. The vacation outfits are all stunning in their use of colors and how they reflect the personalities of the people wearing them. Every one is figure-worthy and definitely is the highlight of the whole experience. The addition of Fraise to the cast was expected and not unwelcome, though I feel like she never was able to settle into a proper role in the cast- though granted that is kind of what the whole narrative is about but more on that later. Fraise is beautiful and kind, with a lovely voice and dreams and aspirations... but she does come off as a bit of a mary-sue in this short snippet. Her whole relationship with Kashou is speedrun at record pace and she blows everyone out of the water in almost every talent, so even in a world without power scaling she feels overpowered in a way. Her appearance definitely makes up for it though, and I wish we could some day get something on par with volume 4 that could really flesh out her place in the cast and make her feel part of the family. Now the writing... is not very good. Kashou, the poor boy, is a shell of his former self. After the amazing narrative of volume 4 he has been reduced to plank of wood for the rest of the cast to lust over, and he even says himself that he simply has no more goals to achieve other than make his harem happy. It feels like he has served his purpose and it's time to let him rest. The rest of the cast also does not fare much better, which is mostly just to illustrate that this is a Fraise and Shigure focused plot. Chocolate will still make you laugh with her ditsyness, Vanilla is still dry and conniving, Azuki is Tsundere and abrasive, Coconut is hungry, Maple is also Tsundere, and Cinnamon is annoying. No one is breaking the mold, but if you already generally liked their personalities you just get a bit more of that. Oddly enough, this episode does not have an H scene DLC that you can buy on steam. In my infinite imagination I can picture why, and it is probably warranted. I can believe that the H scenes are quite good fundamentally, on par with the rest of the artwork on the episode and series. But if you're not prepared for a extra step into the realm of taboo it will come as quite the shock, I think. Also my intuition tells me there's more pee, and that makes me irrationally angry. So Nekopara After... it's probably a pass for anyone who isn't really invested in either Shigure/Fraise specifically or the series as a whole. Especially not at the full price $10 for what is maybe 2-3 hours if you take your time to let the voice lines play out. I am ultimately satisfied with the Nekopara series as a whole for being beautiful if a bit shallow. I crave a bit more lore and worldbuilding, but we won't be getting any of that. I will be continuing on to Sekai Connect with minimal expectations.
Nekopara After - 8.69/10 A Man name Kashou (who almost sound like Cashew) is being sideline in this episode, instead focusing his little sister and a nekogirl from his mentor in the france, shigure and fraise. the tale of family and blooming love ensue, even crossing the line... this finale episode we have: 1. Cute girl kissing and "Playing" each other 2. Sweet Home Alabama with strawberry 3. Sweet Home Alabama 2: All flavours included P.S: Ending song is sung by Aiobahn +81 feat Fuwamoco
This is the last entry of the whole series, n I felt kinda bittersweet after clearing it. It’s a side story centered on their Hawaii trip, along with the bond between Shigure and Fraise as they finally open up. The story is pretty mellow overall, but it’s fully finished and coherent. It’s totally a fitting conclusion as the grand finale.
