An extremely janky game. The controls are bad, the camera is bad, the enemy tracking is godawful, and the game insists on making the player do terrible platforming. But when it works? One of the top actions games I've ever played.

The Black Belt of video games. Hard cannot be used for defining this game. Escape nine circles of hell would be easier than beating this game. Its torture. Its nightmare cranked up to 11. Everyone who defeated this game at least once are true ascendants of Ryu warrior class. This is by far one of the proudest achievements you can get. But what would be a Ninja path without skill and dedication just an emptiness. ps. F*ck this game.

Make sure to download "Ninja Gaiden Sigma Black" mod. It removes that annoying bloom, adds the original soundtrack, and adds Ayane's voice over to those kunai scrolls. Bunch of other stuff too.

Beware, this version does not have NG+ like the original versions, and also lacks some of the dismemberment of limbs in those versions. It is not as noticeable in 1, but is definitely noticeable when playing 2, where enemy limbs simply disappear instead of being rendered. If possible I would find and play the original versions over these, as they are much more satisfying. If this is your only option its still one of the greatest action games ever made, just not the best version of it. Usually a remaster should improve upon the original, instead this one detracts from it.

In 2004, Everyone wanted to be Ryu Hayabusa. More Difficult than Dark Souls, or Elden Ring. More complex than Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. A marriage of fighting game combos to Action-ninja title, with a plethora of an arsenal. Your enemies are ruthless, unforgiving, downright unfair - but an expert will over come. This game really holds up after all these years. Its still brutally difficult... but can you really say you're "good" At video games if you can't beat Ninja Gaiden? No. No You can't.
