I've beaten all three original Ninja Gaiden games on the NES AND all three 3D ones on the hardest difficluties on the XBOX360 back in the day. They were a gruelling and punishing delight that pushed my limits and forced me to git gud to really get the most out of these games. That said, there's a lot of contention around Ninja Gaiden II Black for having less enemies than the original X360 version and not being as hard. To a lot of...neurotic nerds who I refuse to call "fans" that seems to be a huge detriment, but ya know what? I'm a lot older now and don't have much time to play as many video games as I want like I used to, so I don't really care much for having to have the most difficult experience. I just want to have fun with this game now with better graphics and that's what NGIIB provides for me. I'm sure this review sounds defensive and I'll admit that it is because I've had one of said neurotic nerds tell me I wasn't getting the true and full experience. Fitting and not so ironic that it was a younger gentleman who gave me that sphiel especially considering I've been playing Ninja Gaiden before he was even born. So yeah no, I've already had that period of my life where it was all about conquering the most difficult video games for some invisible and intangible badge of honour. I don't need to keep proving myself to such neurotic nerds or myself that I'm "gud" at games. At the end of the day, I just want to have fun.

I'm quite torn on how to rate this game. I have some very fond memories playing the og Ninja Gaiden 2 on xb360. In hoping to reminisce those feelings I got this game. Once you dive in, the bad memories started flowing back: constant wrestling with bad camera angle, atrocious boss fights. And yes all these are ten times worse in tag missions plus your dumb AI partner. Despite these shortcomings, I still love this game. Every encounter gets my adrenaline pumping, the satisfaction after conquering each stage, Is it for everyone? Most definitely not. But if you're fan of high speed non-stop action game and not shy away from challenge, give it a shot. RIP Tomonobu Itagaki san The man who created Dead or Alive series and revived Ninja Gaiden.

I strongly advice installing the tweaks mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaiden2black/mods/8?tab=description It fixed the stutter and boosted my fps. What's weird is that it just changes some game engine defaults, i don't understand how the dev team couldn't figure it out. Anyway, I enjoy the violence.

If you are just a regular Hack N' Slash fan then i highly recommend playing this game its a 10/10 experience. but if you are a Ninja gaiden fan then i will just tell you that this is an another version of sigma 2, but a better version. and i recommend you play it with Ninja Gaiden 2 White mod from nexus, trust me it will make the game 20x better for you.

This black version is fine, I've played both ninja gaiden on xbox original and 360. I even bought an xbox one X specifically to play them. I haven't played them for a long time now and I didn't bought the sigma version since apparently they are worse but this one is good imo. Graphics are much improved (obviously), it runs well enough (for a UE game), I use an engine.ini file to reduce input lag and fix some issues. It's standard UE behaviour, lumen is kinda noisy, some textures appears too late, raytracing (hardware I guess) is quite heavy and not worth it imo. But overall it's great honestly. Combat is as good as ever, there is fewer enemies comparing the old version but it's still a blast to play. It remains sublime and one of the best, fast, lethal and gory, there is not many games like this nowadays. Platforming and swimming are still pretty bad (luckily there is not much). Bosses are awful. Story is pretty useless as usual. It's nice they included the other characters, more content is always good. Momiji plays fine at least. It's a great game, and even if some consider it an inferior version it's still one the best action game ever made. I doubt my review will change after finishing so you can consider it definitive and I recommend it.
