9/10 enjoyment, 0/10 for the story. No Sleep gets the pass because I'm emotionally invested, but Spikechun is gonna pull a star wars disney fumble if the next entry isn't any better than this.

It took me about 16 to 20 hours to 100% it. Let's get this out of the way. The story isn't as big a scale as either AITSF1 or 2. In fact it's a whole lot of nothing. So if you decide to get this game just keep this in mind and manage your expectations! Secondly, I'm just going to say you can not play this game without having played AITSF1. That game is a prerequisite because this game condenses character introductions to two sentences long. You will be completely lost if you jump straight in here. With that, let's start with what I enjoyed. - A short game for fans of Ai Somnium Files (AITSF) to revisit the setting and characters once again. - Character writing is mostly on point for the current set of characters but the supporting characters like Gen and Lien are understandably a lot less fleshed out. Most of the focus is on the cast of the first game. - I really like both the new characters Hina and Akemi! - Iris looks so cute in her bunny costume! - The escape rooms and Somniums are still fun. Being able to switch between 2 other characters who are stuck in adjacent escape rooms with you to solve the same puzzle was an interesting idea. - I actually enjoyed all the dirty jokes... There are MORE to go around this time... - Iris' song at the end of the game is actually good. - A lot less bloat and a lot more focused compared to AITSF2. I was not the biggest fan of that game... - Some positive statements as well as some warnings about the use of AI in everyday life. It's not new territory, and the game doesn't really attempt to say anything new that we have not heard before, but it's a balanced take I suppose. Now for the stuff that can be improved - I feel the same way as many people, in that there was too much hand-holding in the escape segment. Even at the hardest difficulty, when you approach a puzzle, after trying it once or twice, the other characters stuck with you will automatically offer some ideas and suggestions making solving most puzzles in this game quite trivial. There were only one or two instances where I had to really think about the puzzle's solution and even then it was no big deal. - For those who enjoyed the science trivia in AITSF1 and 2, while some of it is present here, it did not play as important nor as central a role as 1 and 2. If you enjoyed philosophical questions and discussions that sometimes happened in AITSF, well it is almost entirely absent in this entry. - There is a spoilergate at the beginning of the game that you do not realise is a spoiler gate and the game never tells you this. If you played AITSF1 you'd know the answer. But if you keyed in the wrong answer or left it blank you'll never get another chance a it. This can affect your enjoyment a bit because the text and writing become a lot more ambiguous if you did not pass the spoiler gate. Comments below contain spoilers -
Despite being a ATSF game with a Flowchart, the Flowchart is entirely linear. The only "branches" are in the form of alternate endings.
-
And the alternate endings are all joke endings. Including a additional ending you unlock after unlocking all the rest. So the story is truly done by the end of the main game.
-
The unlockable bonus content actually added more context to some of these endings and situations in the main game.
Overall I actually quite like this game, despite the flaws. Maybe I just don't set a high bar for my entertainment. But I can imagine why some fans of the first and second game wouldn't. At $34 where I live, it's probably better on sale.

Bear in mind this game WAS marketed as a spin-off, it is NOT a proper sequel! The negative reviews I read for this game were kind of uncalled for. Overall the game is really good, of course not reaching the quality of the other two but the escape games are a nice twist (as someone who has not played Zero Escape yet). I am slowly reaching the last chapter and having lots of fun. Amazing game to play while waiting for the full sequel which I'm really hyped for!
