For me, this game is way better than Brotato. It has cooler weapons, actual minions (yes, minions!), and turrets that make each run feel more chaotic in a fun way. Visually, it’s also much more eye-catching than Brotato. The bosses are cool too—though I definitely think the game needs a few more of them. The only downside is that the difficulty isn’t quite on par with Brotato. That can be a good thing if you just want to relax and scratch that Brotato itch, but it might feel a bit too easy for veteran players. Overall, I highly recommend this game. Solid 9.4/10 from me.

I'm actually surprised this game's developer isn't the same one as Brotato's. The game is pretty much the exact same copy with a reskin. Along with all its pros and cons. Pros being addictive loop, crazy item/weapon combos and pretty stylized graphics. Cons being lesser meta-progression than Vampire Survivor-like games. But if you didn't like Brotato, this one won't be any better for you. It's truly just a reskined copy of it.

Let me first say, I come as a huge fan of the most similar game Brotato (having completed all achievements and all characters on 5+). I therefore hope that my criticisms are received from a valid point of comparison and with any luck, seen by a dev. Some comments will echo forum points made by others. First, the good things. Little to say here, all high quality and no issues. - The art style - The soundtrack - The character art - Weapon art - Map interactivity via bounce & gliding disks. Now to the criticisms; 1) One of the major attractions of Brotato is that the characters you unlock and play encourage the player into trying out niche and peculiar builds. This is particularly the case as you get into later characters, as the negative effects or debuffs attached to their stats/effects more or less force you into using certain weapons and/or prioritising certain stats to either lean into the positive benefits of the character, against the negative effects of the character, or both! This does not exist really at all in Noobs Are Coming. Any build can be played on any character, with little reason to engage with any specific groupings of weapons or stats. This means the general scaling for weapon synergy (i.e. tags of 2/3/4 etc of a weapon) and stats related to weapons are not well balanced...leading directly to the second issue. 2) Weapons have very little benefits given to the player when synergised & many weapon sub-types have at most 2 weapons. This is quite the curious issue. Granted, the game is still in 'early access', but given that there is already a large pool of characters available, having weapon sub-types with under 3 weapons is incredibly odd. Additionally, weapons are not well weighted in the shop. It is incredibly common to roll 4 or 5 shops before being offered a remotely relevant weapon, let alone one that shares tags with the pre-existing equipped weapon and/or starting weapon. Brotato had a number of checks to counter-act this issue, principally by forcing 2 rolls of the 4 options to be weapons in the opening shop rolls. RNG can still be a pain, but this would generally resolve starting issues of no weapons to pick. 3) Why do the bosses not grant anything special? Basic chests x 1 is hardly a reward for killing a boss. Would love to see something akin to Brotatos legendary item drops here. ----- I would like to reiterate, I am a fan of the game. However, I feel these shortcomings make for strong persistent issues; 1) What character you play feels utterly irrelevant. 2) What weapons you choose, is utterly irrelevant. 3) The combination of the above should heavily impact your game, but they don't - not individually, or together. This makes the game feel incredibly un-engaging to the players choice of character and weapons. I do hope a dev sees this, and for fans of Brotato, do give it a whirl - but it has some way to go to be anywhere near Brotato's standard.

If you like Brotato, you'll like this too. In fact, this is arguably more polished than Brotato. Gameplay loop is essentially identical, with you choosing a character, starting weapon, and difficulty. You fight waves of increasingly harder enemies, with shops full of weapons and passives between each wave. The characters are where this game really shine. No shade intended, Brotato's characters look way too similar. Every one of them is a potato wearing different gear. Noobs Are Coming though has a unique model for every character. Now, one thing cool that Brotato does is change the way your character looks with each new passive. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have that. That said, the unique models make up for it. The music is decent, the enemies are fun, and I genuinely enjoy the runs to unlock new stuff. Brotato got a bit monotonous with the grind for unlocks. This feels more varied, with different bosses and enemy behavior keeping things interesting. All-in-all, very solid game, and absolutely contends with others in the genre. With content updates hopefully in the future, I can see myself coming back to this one for quite some time.
