imagine crayons. you pick up a red one, but its green when you color with it, you get a blue one, but it colors in yellow. then get orange, but it actually writes in fountain ink and yellow laughs hysterically whenever it gets close to the paper. this game is kinda like that except its not as entertaining as the crayons. still a thumbs up for 2 bucks.

Challenging bullet heaven with unique mechanics. Pretty repetitive & grindy, but a lot of build freedom. Worth checking out.

I don't even know where to start with this game. But going off the cuff, there are so MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO BUILD. Different class levels -> Different types of abilities. Tarot cards that can give cool ability or you can hold them for a passive. Im still working on doing more of the endless dream and clearing/unlocking all the available tarot cards but its been a great experience. It can seem like a lot initially to look at but trust the process. It works out.

Dark Fairy Tale: Dreamland Survivors, developed and published by BINGOBELL in collaboration with BeStarsGames, is a roguelike action game that merges whimsical fairy tale aesthetics with challenging survival mechanics. Released in 2025, the game casts players as Pinocchio, navigating a nightmarish dream world filled with distorted versions of classic storybook characters. Combining strategic movement, one-handed auto-shooting mechanics, and resource management, it offers a fast-paced yet approachable roguelike experience for players seeking both charm and challenge. The gameplay revolves around surviving successive waves of enemies, with each encounter rewarding players with “Dream Eggs” that can be consumed for immediate stat boosts or saved for powerful effects later in a run. This introduces an engaging risk-reward dynamic, requiring careful decision-making about when and how to use resources. Players primarily control Pinocchio’s movement while his attacks are automated, which simplifies input and allows for fluid, one-handed play. Every fifth wave introduces Tarot Dream stages, where players flip cards that can grant bonuses or impose challenging modifiers, adding a layer of strategy and unpredictability to the progression. Visually, the game excels in creating a surreal and slightly eerie atmosphere. Character designs blend the familiar with the grotesque: Pinocchio is rendered in a charming, hand-drawn style, while enemies are warped versions of fairy tale figures that create a dreamlike, unsettling environment. Though the backgrounds can feel repetitive over time, the core art style successfully conveys the game’s whimsical and nightmarish tone. The animation of both protagonist and enemies is smooth, making combat visually satisfying even during chaotic waves of attacks. The audio design complements the visual style, with a soundtrack that balances tension and whimsy without overpowering the action. Sound effects provide clear feedback for attacks and enemy interactions, though the music may become repetitive after extended play sessions. Enhanced variety in audio cues could further elevate the immersive experience and provide a stronger sense of progression across levels. While the game is engaging and visually distinctive, it does have areas that could be improved. The absence of an in-depth tutorial means new players must experiment to understand mechanics such as Dream Egg utilization and weapon prioritization. This trial-and-error approach can be frustrating for beginners. Additionally, enemy variety is somewhat limited, especially in later waves, which can lead to repetitive encounters and reduce long-term engagement. The lack of a gallery or replay system also limits players’ ability to revisit favorite moments without restarting runs. Overall, Dark Fairy Tale: Dreamland Survivors delivers a unique and captivating roguelike experience that combines fairy tale imagery with strategic survival gameplay. Its one-handed controls, engaging resource mechanics, and eerie yet charming art style make it stand out within the genre. While technical and design limitations may slightly hinder accessibility and replay value, the game provides a compelling challenge for players who enjoy roguelikes with personality, atmosphere, and a creative twist on familiar storybook worlds.
