Words alone cannot explain how much this game means to me. When I first played this game all the way back in the late 2000s (And again in the early 2010s when it finally received an English translation, thank god for that.), it was an incredibly mesmerizing experience from start to finish. From the sterile presentation (In a good way.) of the characters and their world, to the cerebral sounding OST, and to the moral uncertainties that are felt towards the protagonist (The Batter) when the true goal of his mission started to become more evident (That one moment where the Judge cries for his brother broke my heart...), the game was (And still is.) something that left an massive impression on me, and it still influences my tastes in games (Both Indie & Non-Indie.) to this day. Also, here's a fun fact about me that nobody asked for: OFF was the very first Indie game I have ever played! I recommend this game with every single fiber of my being. I can't stress enough how every single person who likes Indie games should experience OFF and see firsthand how delightful it is, and why it still influences and inspires the Indie scene in various ways. While there are some moments that could be a little challenging, they aren't anything that would make you pull your hair out, and you will still most definitely end the game with a smile (Or even a devious grin.) on your face. The updated OST is a nice touch as well. While it is a tad disappointing that the original OST couldn't be used, the new compositions and the talented people behind them (BansheeBeat, Camellia, Exaheva, James Roach, Morusque, Nightmargin, & Toby Fox) are all excellently composed and pleasant to listen to! All of these musicians did an immaculate job of preserving the vibes of the original OST, and I love singing praises of their achievement in doing so! The end this review of OFF... off (heh), PLEASE play this game!
I kept getting recommendations to try this since I love games like OneShot, Yume Nikki, Omori, etc. I'm really glad I did, it's easy to see how it was so impactful to the rpgmaker genre and games that were inspired by it. (Personally, I'm glad I didnt play the original version, cause apparently nostalgia ruins how cool this remaster/remake is by itself. The original will always remain what it is AND remain available for free. It only takes like 10 seconds of googling to find out why ACC chose not to sign for the soundtrack, and a lot of it was for the fangames already made to not be loosing access to the songs or soundbites that he already gave them permission to use. So...Big Respect to the og soundartist and big respect to Fangamer/Mortis Ghost for pulling together a great cast of composers to make their own versions of the songs, and even with artistic liberty!! People even made mods already with the og soundtrack. It's a "two cakes" situation, & you played the original for free, idk why y'all are so mad lol.)
