But for me, the crashes significantly hurt an otherwise fun experience. 3/5
This is a solid musou game. I have not watched a single episode of One Piece but I am still having plenty of fun so far. The port, however sucks to put it lightly. This is a port from a CONSOLE with no proper controller support. It is broken and finnicky and I was forced to make a layout with Steam Input that mixes keyboard and gamepad controlls to be able to play normally. What was KOEI TECMO smoking at that time? BTW it says on the game's Steam page that there is FULL controller support and this is just a straight up lie. Once you put up with all the bullcrap though, It's worth it and especially given the current -90% discount.
One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is a very solid Musou game, and a contender for best in the PW series. It is very good as a refresher of the basics of the plot for people who are already familiar with the story up to Punk Hazard (it's adaptation of Dressrosa is "original"), but is, of course, not a substitute for reading the manga or watching the anime (so much is skipped you'll only really get the gist of what happened). As such, I cannot recommend the Pirate Warriors games to series newcomers (like one could with, say, "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot" with DBZ), but this goes without saying. Unfortunately, the porting job is a little spotty. A noteworthy problem with the port is that even with a controller you need to use the keyboard to skip cutscenes (space bar) or pause the game (F1), this is not a big problem, but is a flaw that should be mentioned. The game has a tendency to crash when trying to open the Dressrosa mission, this is caused by the game trying to find specific DirectX files and failing (either because you're playing on MacOS or Linux, or because your Windows OS is too new). This is fixable , here's how: If you're playing MacOS/Linux , find "dxvk" and place "d3d9.dll" from that collection of files in the game's root folder (where the .exe file is, found by using the "browse local files" feature of Steam). In other words, follow [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBrF_s36AJk]this guide . If you're playing Windows , go and get the legacy DirectX files from the official Microsoft site ([url=https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35]here ), extract the file to wherever ("Downloads/DirectX" or something), find "DXSETUP.exe" in the extracted files and install them. EDIT: You also need the Visual C++ Redistributable, both the 32-bit and 64-bit, also directly from Microsoft ([url=https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-supported-redistributable-version]here . You also must allow the game to be "Run as Administrator" (the "Compatibility" Tab in the Properties of the oppw3.exe file, found by using the browse local files feature). This will fix the crashes, but does not fix rendering issues with cutscenes (the game will screw up the draw distance of characters during cutscenes, resulting in characters being blurry at odd points). Setting aside these issues, the game is "good", and still worth price of admission, at least at a 50% or more discount.
I actually really like this game, crashes and all. Dunno if my playtime is any indicator of that lol. But yeah, the crashes are HORRIBLE. If you don't have the patience to replay the same level, like, three different times, I definitely don't recommend this game. An easy fix is choosing two people before each level (splitscreen), but that's a little inconvenient. Plus the graphics aren't incredible or anything. Not horrible, but I sometimes have trouble seeing the textures on certain things in the maps. Other than that though, there's no better musou game out there than this game, and I really don't think that's a hot take. Every character is so unique and fun to play, and the gameplay is extremely satisfying. It's not boringly easy, either. The nightmare log is fun and genuinely gives a challenge. Definitely recommend buying this game on sale though, since it's only like five bucks.
I love this game, but the port is horrible. There are a ton of bugs, so here are some things to keep in mind: - Controller mapping must be done through Steam community layouts - Controller must be plugged in when the game is launched - Audio output cannot be changed - Max resolution is 1080p - Reconfiguring resolution manually will break cutscenes and may cause the game to crash - Reconfiguring audio output manually while the game is running will cause the game to freeze - You must download a patch from Github to avoid random crashing Pirate Warriors 3 improves everything from Pirate Warriors 2 and repackages it. There are a lot of reused animations and movesets, but it's different enough to not feel like a copy-paste. That being said, the gameplay loop is exactly the same, as you would expect from the musou genre. The gameplay is basically the same thing over and over but with different map layouts and characters. The roster for this game is great, including characters like Perona and Garp, who were cut from Pirate Warriors 4. If you've enjoyed a musou game before, you won't be disappointed with this.
