Orange Season is a farming and life-simulation game that sets out to capture the warmth and routine of rural living while wrapping it in a colorful, nostalgic presentation. Developed by Innerfire Studios and published by SOEDESCO, the game places players in the role of a newcomer who finally fulfills the dream of owning a farm in the small community of Orange Town. From the outset, it presents a familiar promise: a peaceful life shaped by planting crops, caring for animals, exploring the surrounding land, and gradually becoming part of a close-knit village. It clearly draws inspiration from genre staples, aiming to offer a cozy, slow-paced experience built around daily routines and personal growth. The core gameplay revolves around managing your farm and shaping it over time. Clearing land, planting seeds, watering crops, and harvesting produce form the backbone of each in-game day, and these tasks are complemented by secondary activities like fishing, mining, and animal care. The game offers a wide variety of crops and resources, encouraging experimentation and long-term planning as seasons change. On paper, this structure provides a solid foundation, giving players plenty to do and a sense of steady progression as the farm expands and becomes more profitable. The appeal lies in the familiar rhythm of tending to chores at your own pace and watching a once-empty plot slowly turn into a thriving homestead. Beyond the farm, Orange Season puts significant emphasis on community and social interaction. Orange Town is populated by a sizable cast of villagers, each with their own schedules, personalities, and quests. Building relationships through conversations and gift-giving is meant to be an important part of the experience, reinforcing the idea that life in town is about more than just economic success. Festivals and special events add variety to the calendar, breaking up routine days and giving players moments to engage with the town as a whole rather than focusing solely on their land. These social systems aim to give the world emotional texture and make the town feel alive. However, while the design ambitions are clear, the moment-to-moment experience often struggles to live up to them. Basic interactions such as planting, watering, or using tools can feel awkward or unresponsive, requiring repeated inputs where smooth, intuitive actions are expected. In a genre where satisfaction comes from the simplicity and flow of daily tasks, this clunkiness can quickly become frustrating. Instead of feeling relaxing, routine chores sometimes feel laborious, breaking the cozy immersion the game works so hard to establish. Navigation and usability further complicate the experience. Orange Town is large and spread out, yet the tools provided to help players find characters or locations are limited and unreliable. Quests frequently require tracking down specific villagers, and without a clear or functional map system, this can turn into time-consuming wandering rather than enjoyable exploration. Over time, this lack of quality-of-life features weighs heavily on pacing, making progression feel slower and less rewarding than it should. Technically, Orange Season also shows signs of roughness that undermine its charm. Players have encountered various bugs and collision issues that interrupt gameplay, from getting stuck in terrain to objects failing to function as intended. While not always game-breaking, these problems chip away at immersion and reinforce the sense that the game lacks the polish expected from a fully released life simulator. For players seeking a smooth, stress-free experience, these issues can be especially disappointing. Where Orange Season consistently succeeds is in its presentation. The pixel art style is vibrant and inviting, filled with warm colors and detailed environments that capture the idealized vision of countryside life. Fields, forests, rivers, and town interiors all contribute to a visually pleasing world that feels cheerful and comforting. The soundtrack complements this aesthetic with gentle, relaxing music that reinforces the game’s laid-back tone. These audiovisual elements do a great deal of heavy lifting, often carrying the experience during moments when the gameplay itself falters. In the end, Orange Season is a game with a clear heart and a strong sense of what it wants to be, but it struggles with execution. Its systems, while familiar and appealing in concept, lack the refinement needed to make everyday play feel effortless and rewarding. For players who are deeply invested in farming sims and willing to overlook rough edges in favor of atmosphere and charm, there is enjoyment to be found in Orange Town. However, for those seeking a polished, intuitive life-simulation experience, Orange Season may feel more like a promising idea held back by technical and design shortcomings rather than a fully realized cozy classic. Ok so I do like this game but for some reason every time I try to go into my chicken coop the game crashes, the game has a lot of bugs that need to be resolved at some point. So I hope that the creators of the game are still working on it and release a new game patch soon. Because really do like the game but it’s very irritating when I can’t even go into my coop to feed my chickens.
