Outlast 2 is a decent game overall, but it falls short compared to the first one in terms of atmosphere and horror. The good: they added healing and crawling mechanics, and the religious themes are interesting. The game also leans hard into gross-out horror (feces, gore, childbirth, etc.), which can be unsettling. But the bad outweighs the good: it’s not scary, just annoying — endless chases from unimpressive monsters and constant flashbacks of the protagonist’s past break the tension. Instead of dread, you get frustration. The first Outlast was terrifying; this one is just exhausting. Fans might still try it, but don’t expect the same level of horror as the original.

it's not scary as the first game because it's lean more on psychological horror and it has less in tense chases like the first game, But ngl the graphic and atmosphere are pretty good give it try if you enjoy horror games

I’m not usually a fan of horrors, but Outlast 2 really grabbed me. The intense mix of running for your life through mountainous terrain, cornfields, and hills, paired with incredible sound design, creates a gripping experience. The lighting and shadow effects are cinematic, especially for 2017, and sometimes I wish I could just explore the realistic textures instead of constantly fleeing. The religious themes tap into primal fears—what could be more terrifying and tangible than a cult of fanatics? Well, yeah, unless you’re talking about the 2024 presidential election...

Outlast 1 > Outlast 2 It's not horrible. There are some great ideas in this, which unfortunately can't be appreciated the first time you go through the game, since it's very hard to process what the hell is even going on. I swear there is a point to all of this, but sometimes less is more and here I'm referring to the chase scenes. The first game just had the exact right amount and the second one really pushes you from one hunt to the next without any stop. If you like that, then by all means have fun with it. Also don't do the insane run. Just don't...
