Outlast 2 is a decent game overall, but it falls short compared to the first one in terms of atmosphere and horror. The good: they added healing and crawling mechanics, and the religious themes are interesting. The game also leans hard into gross-out horror (feces, gore, childbirth, etc) which can be unsettling. But the bad outweighs the good: it’s not scary, just annoying, endless chases from unimpressive monsters and constant flashbacks of the protagonist’s past break the tension. Instead of dread, you get frustration. The first Outlast was terrifying; this one is just exhausting. Fans might still try it, but don’t expect the same level of horror as the original.

It's a tense triller with a good singular vision, terrific art and effective execution. Location sctructure could've been done better, but it's not that bad. Gameplay is fine for what it is and there's a story mode if you really suck at hiding. My gripes with the game are purely philosophical in nature and, I know this very well, purely subjective. I find North American obsession with Biblical mumbo-jumbo and Christian Cult horror both predictable and simply stupid at this point. While the story is delivered quite effectively, the plot itself is a very basic story about a huge cliche. Notes are simply Bible-esque gibberish sprinkled on top of it and hardly work to add some additional layers. Plus the game is too lax with overloading players with hyperviolence and soft taboo themes. In-your-face method was kinda uneasy and effective for an hour or so, but the guro overload just dulls the overall plot very quickly. Considering that the finale was somewhat seen from a mile away, it hardly worked for me at all. Honestly, I think the narrative lead should try to read something outside of Western interpritation of the Holy Bible for a change and team's new SP-only game should at least try be more subtle with heavy stuff, akin of recent Silent Hill 2 remake. Nonetheless I find the game a very competent and really focused foray into the Body Thriller genre and still recommend it despite lacking in imagination around the whole Faith schtick. It's 7.5/10, but boy it's a solid one.

Outlast 2 is a game where you play as a hard Christian believer who goes to an atheist community to purify and convert them all into good god-loving Christians. it's perfect for educating your children about the bible. 10/10

it's not scary as the first game because it's lean more on psychological horror and it has less in tense chases like the first game, But ngl the graphic and atmosphere are pretty good give it try if you enjoy horror games
