Preface: I haven’t played this game myself. I bought it purely to support the developers (and to leave a review). In 2022, my brother asked if I wanted to watch him play a horror game, and this is the one he picked. For 11 hours over 4 nights, we sat together, puzzling our way through it and being scared absolutely shirtless. I had vicious nightmares every single night until we finished. What an experience. I’ve been obsessed with it since. Ask anyone I know or have met: I haven’t shut up about it. The main reason I’m obsessed is simple: they nailed it. It’s scary without relying on constant jumpscares like most horror games do. The sound design makes the atmosphere immersive and terrifying, and the stories it tells are fascinating to unravel. But another big reason is more personal: it scared me so badly that the adrenaline seemed to jumpstart my emotions. I’d had a rough few years that had finally caught up with me. I could barely get off the couch for several months. The only downside is that it ruined horror games for me. Nothing else feels scary enough anymore. I’ll be chasing that high for the rest of my life.

First, let's get the cons about this game out of the way. The fact that this was a Kickstarter project is apparent specific sections. I'll refrain from saying which as to not spoil anything but it felt apparent to me, namely one section where the game would consistently crash unless I used a cheeky save-scummy workaround. The developers were NOT kidding when they say this game is difficult. You need to pay attention to what is revealed to you, as some clues will only be revealed once and your progress hinges on the fact you can retain a lot of info without immediately having context as to what it will be useful for. Lateral thinking will help you immensely (duh, puzzles in a Silent Hill-inspired horror game), but even then I found some solutions a touch contrived -- especially when fighting for my life for 15-30 minutes to just collect the items I need to try the solution I've cooked up, certain that the logic is sound just to find I set myself on a fool's errand. Heck, there is one puzzle I would even say is nearly trial and error if it weren't for certain tells -- again, won't say where. Now, the positives. That all said, I was immensely pleased with the whole of this game despite all this, and ultimately it stuck its landing. It wears its influence on its sleeve proudly, getting so close to being the "Silent Hills" we never got. While I can't say it is one-to-one with any specific Silent Hill, the closest being PT and 4, it is a spectacular project with so much polish put into it that you can easily forgive the few areas where it is lacking. If anything, that polish makes those few sections stick out like a sore thumb, and I would so dearly love to see this game patched at some point to fix those few issues. It would easily be a near perfect game for the old-school psychological horror fans, should it ever get that last touch-up I feel it deserves. It won't be for everyone. The game is unforgiving at times, sometimes almost unfairly. But almost never unintentionally -- after all, you deserve to be here. Allow it to steep you in its world, whether on your own terms or the game's, and you will be surprised by how far it will take you. Highly recommended. But don't be afraid to check a walkthrough, if you absolutely need to.

One of the best horror games ever made - basically the spiritual successor to P.T. The controls can feel clunky and are honestly the hardest part of the game at first, but once you get used to them, the experience is totally worth it. The game is absolutely terrifying and super immersive - the kind where you start listening to every little sound in your room. The atmosphere, sound design are just on another level. VISAGE is scary as hell, and saying otherwise is just stupid. People who say it’s "not scary" either do not know how to play horror games, or they drop it early because controls are tough and then get salty, lol. Sometimes it is not clear what to do in the game - but it literally warns you about this at the start and that confusion is part of the experience, not a flaw. It is psychological horror that messes with your head and keeps you on edge.

Really good PT-like experience The horror is really good while maintaining an interesting story that goes pretty deep. But when the game tells you "Visage is hard" it only means that in the sense that you will never know what you're doing, it takes a lot of wandering around and tbh, google searches to get through the game. I would still say it is worth playing if you love horror, and if you can look past some of the issues, its a great experience.
