Its Descent (Descent II to be precise) for modern computers with improved physics and graphics, but c'mon its Descent II - 2. Really loved replaying it as Descent is one of my childhood games and I loved it. My main gripe with the game are the last levels, which I find a bit too punishing, and less interesting overall as the enemies are a bit too strong and you often can't just "play well" - a couple of times I had to save-scum to get past an annoying section. But again, loved the main game, and my main complaint about this game is essentially "I want more of the good parts", and that's a good complaint to have !
If you can handle being surrounded by robotic ships shooting, bombing or even crashing into you as you try to destroy the reactor then you might be able to handle this fantastic game. You'll have the ability to move 360 inside an infested mine. The job is to retrieve the human workers in cryotubes and then to overload the reactor causing an explosive escape. Yes it's like the game Descent if yo ever had the pleasure.
'Overload' is an action game inspired by a stone-cold and underappreciated classic... The Good: + as a spiritual successor to the 'Descent' series it combines full "360 degree" flying movement with fast-paced action in dark, claustrophobic tunnels + pretty cool soundtrack which adds to the atmosphere + features an upgrade system, which rewards exploration even beyond short-term power-ups + amazing lighting- and particle-effects make the combat really satisfying The Bad: - it copies it's inspiration to a fault what with cool enemy designs but mostly formulaic levels; as such, it struggles to have an identity or leave a lasting impression - most wall textures and level layouts are pretty bland and generic, many areas look similar, making navigation harder than it should be - they really didn't think about balancing with those upgrades (who in their right mind upgrades the boost in a game like this??) The Summary: The game 'Overload' is almost as generic as it's title but if you're a big fan of the Descent series (like me), you're bound to have a good time with this one. 7 out of 10
