April 2025
This strategy RPG spin-off was unfortunately overshadowed by Persona 3 Reload being released not too long after. Not everyone was a fan of the chibi aesthetic and the easy difficulty did not help either. I personally enjoyed the tactics gameplay and the stellar presentation. The game consists of bite-sized missions with a puzzle-like quality to them. You can deploy only three units on the small-to-medium maps. The abilities of your personas and forged weapons are what brings a lot of freedom to approaching each map. There are new enemies with unique moves being introduced at a regular pace. The extra challenges and side quests push the player into getting accustomed with your tools and getting creative with them. This can be seen especially with the Triple Threat Attack, Tactica’s All-Out Attack. The puzzle-like nature of some objectives will get you thinking with T R I A N G L E S in no time. While the persona system is quite simplified when adapted to the new tactics style, they provide more than enough to handle everything the game throws at you. In general, there are a variety of status effects which can disable or displace enemy units. Then, you can use the classic One More to place your own units exactly where you want to make the most of the Triple Threat move. You can also reassign each character’s skill points whenever you want as well as retry previous turns. However, when compared to something like Fire Emblem, the game is very much a more casual experience. Tactica ends up feeling too easy and short, but that might be a good thing considering the story. What happens is a mostly decent adventure, but it very much repeats some ideas from the original Persona 5 and feels like an inconsequential filler episode. The interactions between the Phantom Thieves are as amusing as ever though, and some of the new characters are pretty good as well. I have seen a bunch of people disappointed with the decision to use a chibi style for the characters. Personally, I thought the designs looked great, they had the chibi cuteness but still maintained the cool Persona 5 edge. However, when I saw the design drafts for Erina and Toshiro, which had the regular Persona character proportions, I did think that we may have been robbed a little. The rest of the presentation was fantastic. The cutscenes featured great animation, the background CGs during the visual novel parts were beautiful, the VFX during combat were also pure eye candy. The soundtrack also featured some of my favorite songs in the entirety of Persona 5. The Repaint Your Heart story DLC was a more condensed experience which was my favorite part of Tactica. This was an all-killer no-filler ride with cool ideas and made me wish that the main campaign was this good. The Steam Deck performance could be split into two separate categories. The game ran just fine during the missions, but dropped frames hard whenever I was interacting with the Hideout menus. Many of them featured complex 3D structures in the background which was probably the cause of performance issues. However, the game was still very much playable and the incredible art direction made the game shine on a portable OLED screen. Overall, while I enjoyed my time with Tactica, I can easily understand how it so quickly faded from the spotlight and is barely mentioned nowadays. I think that, on a discount, the game is good enough for people who want more Phantom Thieves and don’t mind tactics gameplay.

Phantom Thieves on the Battlefield – Tactical Flair Meets Persona Style What happens when the Phantom Thieves trade their Metaverse antics for tactical grid-based battles? Persona 5 Tactica delivers a fresh spin on the series, blending strategy gameplay with the beloved aesthetic and humor of its predecessors. It’s stylish, fun, and full of charm—but doesn’t dive as deep as genre veterans might hope. Story The Phantom Thieves are pulled into a strange new realm ruled by a dictator who loves power a bit too much. With the help of a fiery rebel leader named Erina, they join a resistance to liberate the oppressed. Think Persona 5 meets strategy, with plenty of twists, witty banter, and the occasional surprise betrayal. Gameplay The game adopts turn-based tactical combat with a focus on positioning, team synergy, and environmental interactions. Co-op attacks and cover mechanics add a layer of excitement, while the accessibility ensures that even newcomers to the genre can jump in with ease. Hardcore strategy enthusiasts might find it a bit light on depth, but the stylish execution makes up for it. Strengths ✔️ Stylish Presentation The bold colors, snappy animations, and iconic Persona flair translate beautifully into this new tactical format. It’s visually stunning from start to finish. ✔️ Dynamic Combat The battles are fast-paced, creative, and packed with flashy moves. Co-op attacks and environmental tricks keep things fresh. ✔️ Beloved Characters Joker, Ryuji, Ann, and the rest of the crew are as lovable as ever, delivering their signature wit and camaraderie. Morgana still tells you when to rest, though. ✔️ Accessible Strategy Even if you’re not a tactical veteran, the game makes it easy to jump in and have fun. It’s approachable without feeling overly simple. Weaknesses ❌ Limited Strategic Depth Compared to other tactics games, it doesn’t offer the same level of complexity. Seasoned players might find it too straightforward. ❌ Minimal Exploration Outside of battles, the game feels stripped down. Fans of the social interactions and life sim elements from the main series might feel something is missing. ❌ Not Very Challenging Even on higher difficulty settings, the game rarely pushes you to the brink. ❌ Forgettable Soundtrack The music doesn’t capture the same magic as Persona 5. While it fits the tactical tone, it lacks memorable tracks and emotional impact. To get a sense of the soundtrack, you can check out this compilation: [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FePwsdN863U]Persona 5 Tactica: Complete Soundtrack Compilation Achievements The achievements are mostly straightforward and reward tactical play. There are no missable achievements, so you can take your time—or go wild experimenting, because, why not? However, completing the full Persona compendium requires a second playthrough in New Game+ and reaching Level 91. Yes, the grind is real, but at least it’s stylish. Target Audience ✔️ Recommended for • Fans of Persona 5 who want a fresh take on their favorite characters. • Players who enjoy accessible, stylish tactical games. • Anyone looking for a lighthearted, visually stunning strategy experience. ❌ Not Recommended for • Hardcore strategy fans craving deep, complex gameplay. • Players who miss the life sim and social aspects of the mainline Persona series. • Those who think Morgana's bedtime lectures should stay in the past. Final Verdict Persona 5 Tactica brings the Phantom Thieves into a new genre with flair, humor, and plenty of style. While it may lack the depth of other tactics games or the social richness of the main series, it’s a delightful spin-off that fans will appreciate. Tactical Phantom Thieves? It works better than you’d expect! 🎭✨ Note: My playtime is as unpredictable as Joker’s heist plans. For a realistic estimate, check [url=https://howlongtobeat.com]HowLongToBeat .

Overall this game was decent. I found the tactical side of the game was pretty simple and easy to understand so it is good for people who aren't into tactical combat so if you want to experience this game you don't need to worry about the combat being different from the mainline games.(Personally, I found the game on the easy side because I have played other tactical games.) Would I recommend this game to others? Yes and no, if you don't like tactical games or not interested in the original Persona 5 characters then I wouldn't recommend it, if you are looking for a different experience and to interact the P5 Cast again then go ahead. Although I wouldn't recommend paying £55 for this type of game. It is not a full price game, but a good time killer if on sale.
