This game is a landmark title in the history of PC gaming, and even decades after its release, it remains a fascinating experience. I would rate it a 9 out of 10 for its ambition, storytelling, and the impact it had at the time. One of the most impressive aspects of the game is how revolutionary it was. At a time when most games relied on simple graphics and limited narrative depth, Phantasmagoria pushed boundaries with full-motion video, live actors, and a cinematic approach to horror storytelling. The sheer scale of the project (spanning seven CDs) was almost unheard of and demonstrated a level of ambition that set it apart from its contemporaries. The story is another highlight. It delivers a gripping and often disturbing narrative that keeps the player engaged from beginning to end. The atmosphere is tense, the pacing is effective, and the gradual descent into horror is handled in a memorable way. It’s clear that a lot of effort went into crafting a narrative that feels immersive and emotionally impactful. That said, the game does show its age, particularly in terms of video quality. The full-motion video sequences, while groundbreaking at the time, now appear grainy and outdated. This can sometimes detract from the overall experience, especially for modern players accustomed to high-definition visuals. However, considering the technological limitations of its era, these shortcomings are understandable. In fact, they can even add a certain charm, reminding players of how far the medium has come. When viewed in its historical context, Phantasmagoria stands out as a bold and innovative project that achieved something truly special. Overall, despite its dated visuals, it remains a great game with a compelling story and an important place in gaming history.

An FMV classic from Sierra. When I was a kid I wanted to play this so badly, but wasn't able to since I didn't have a PC that could run it at the time. Years later I finally remembered to play it and bought it on GoG. For whatever reason my copy stopped working there, so I came to Steam to repurchase it. I haven't had any issues with the Steam version. The game follows Adrienne Delaney as she and her husband Don buy an old mansion that is supposedly haunted. Over the course of several chapters the story unfolds and you learn about the events that take place here. The gameplay is simple enough with the typical point and click interface of most Sierra games post-EGA parcer days. You do have an inventory and can examine each item. Most items don't need looked at closely, but there is one in particular you will need to look at to advance the story. Like many other Sierra games, there is a point where you can actually lock yourself out from progressing the story and having to start over. There is only one instance with this, but be warned. Unfortunately you can only have one save per game plus the bookmark, so it's hard to tell where you will run into trouble if you haven't played before. The saving grace to this is you can do a chapter select at any point and begin play from that chapter all over. I am not sure if that was an option when the game first released or if that was added many years later, but it's a nice to have if you accidentally lock yourself out of winning at that one point. The characters are likeable and the story lore is interesting. Aside from the limited technology we had back in the day, I think this game holds up very well to this day. It's probably my favorite FMV game of all time, and it is well worth a playthrough if you're a Sierra and/or horror fan. I have been playing it once a year around Halloween for quite a few years now. Give it a try.

The funniest horror game in the world. Great atmosphere, soundtrack, memorable characters and good story (which was a bit rushed at the end, lots of exposition and all that), but overall it was great experience which wasn't drawn out at all. There is no "definitive" way to finish the game - you can take multiple paths at the end to finish it. I highly recommend you trying it if you want to take in the vibes of what the 90's were all about

Might be the funniest horror game I've ever played! The acting is pure goofy gold, the puzzles are simple but satisfying, and the horror moments are surprisingly effective even today! Made a video about it here: https://youtu.be/8wEFzYMiHtU?si=XJqQwTy0AXLAnFOH

An enthralling relic of the past and a solid, slow burn of suspense, horror and '90s FMV perfection. If you're nostalgic for this sort of thing, you will likely enjoy Phantasmagoria. As I am still playing it, and taking my time exploring and moseying around as one does with this sort of game, I can't speak on the later game stuff, but if there is anything game breaking, I'll update this review. For now, I am going to get back to enjoying this charming, spooky game. Update: Apparently, the save function is not working properly.
