From a story and missions perspective, the game is good. It is still relatively short, but the latest update added a continuation to the story, which suggests there may be more content in the future. The PvE content is excellent. The maps are also great and very enjoyable, although some of them still need improvements — but overall, they are awesome. However, the real issue is server optimization. Honestly, every time there’s an improvement to the servers, they seem to become heavy and laggy again the next day. I’m not sure whether this is due to the increasing number of players that their servers can’t handle, cheap server infrastructure, or simply a need for more financial support to improve them. From the players’ side, the game has already been supported through purchasing the game itself, buying skins, and subscribing to the newly added in-game subscription. Regarding the subscription feature, I honestly didn’t feel that its benefits were strong enough. If instead of a subscription they had introduced a seasonal battle pass or premium pass each season with better-targeted rewards, I believe more players would have supported the game even more. As for PvP content, the current 6v6 and 10v10 modes are honestly very fun. However, there seem to be some balance issues with equipment. Still, it’s a solid start, especially after adding the points system that allows you to exchange points for weapons and outfits. Overall, the game is genuinely good and enjoyable. But I repeat, the server issues are the main problem — you either tolerate them and get used to them, or wait a few months and hope for further improvements. Rating: 7/10

Where do I start? First of all, let me stress the fact, that this is still an early access title. This means, the devs are full aware of its unfinished state and they need you and me to support further development. That said, let me try to break down my experience with this game as shortly as possible, so you can get to the end of this review without getting too distracted. What Vibes does this Game give me? This game feels a lot like a mix of Metro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Fallout - but through the prism of "Undawn". What do I mean? Well... The atmosphere is pretty much a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-Metro Hybrid (mainly because it is an "irradiated soviet setting" game). Especially the on-the-fly switchability of weapon mods is much like Metro: Exodus. The Fallout Vibes I get from collecting items to dismantle and from the game's mascot. Instead of the Vault-Boy, you get a Pione(e)r-Girl. (Edit: Since the last update, there is a montly subscribtion akin to Fallout 1st, there are even free items alongside buyable cosmetics in the shop.) Something like that... Why the "Undawn-Prism", though? Well, if you played (or looked) at the "Will Smith Survival Game" called "Undawn", you might know that it is basically an asian survival game that feels a lot like The Division with Zombies. Even its logo is eerily similar to The Division. And "Pioner" gives me somehow a bit of this "This is Metro, but from Temu" vibe... It feels like a copy, though I can not quite put a finger onto "why". Is it an MMO? Yes and no (yay, it rhymed!). Instead of an open world, you play in zones (just like classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro Exodus). Some are smaller, some are larger. And these zones are inhabited by other players, who you can participate in world events with or just fight together (I was lucky to have been picked up by a fellow today, after an Elite shot me). So the world feels less dead. The NPCs are not Skyrim-Level, but there are some random NPCs here and there, wandering and doing stuff. The only thing that buggs me most, so far: There are raids (group "dungeons"), that can be only absolved in a group of 3 (in the beginning, at least). And you can not enter those solo, so you HAVE to wait for others to join your queue. The problem is, that once you queue up, you can not close the Raid Finder window, without leaving the queue. And with the extremely long queues (I gave up after staring at 10min+ waiting timers several times, because I did not want to spend my game in a actionless window), it is very unlikely, I will experience raids any time soon. Even worse - you can only queue up from the main hub, so you have to leave your questing area entirely. They could at least have implimented a raidfinder like good old World of Warcraft - let it run in the background. Is it an RPG? Well - no. You can customize your characters looks, "Transmogrify" Items and stuff, but the only thing coming close to RPG elements are the skills. And those are basically just perks to improve some of your most basic skills. In no way shape or form do they individualize your gameplay. In the end, you will most likely learn all of them anyway. Oh, and some quests have dialogue choices, that may result in a different outcome of the quest. They will be indicated by a red or blue symbol by the choice in the dialogue window. But so far, it was nothing groundbreaking. But why is this review positive, though? Well, because the game works. So far. Yes, it is buggy from time to time, but updates come regularly and bugs are fixed. Many complain about the AI voice acting. Well, I am fortunate enough to be able to play the game natively - in russian - and the original voice acting is as good as in every Metro or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Game. No complaints there. If it is a small Indie Dev Studio, I can absolutely understand why they would use AI to voice the game in different languages - they can't afford real voice actors (for now), so they resort to technology to make the game more accessible. I respect that. The gameplay is challenging at times, especially when cornered by multiple NPCs with guns (the AI ranges from "challenging" to "challenged", though). World Events are tough. There is loot to gain, schematics to learn, stuff to spend your well earned hexcoins on. It feels "alright", but few contenders for a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro game with "Multiplayer-Elements" do come even close to "alright". What is my verdict? I will give the game a definite chance. So far, there IS A GAME to be played, and pretty extensively at that. I spent 24 hours before entering the SECOND zone and I am not even completely finished with the first one. There is definetely stuff to kill time on. I do not expect (nor recommend you to do so) this game to turn into another "No Man's Sky"-Turnaround stories, but I can not but think of the game "7 Days to die". When I bought it, way back when it was in EA for a few weeks, I was excited for a dedicated "Zombie Survival Minecraft Clone" and it was basically just that - buggy and broken at that, too. But look at what it turned out to be, now. A fairly solid Zombie Survival. That's what I expect from Pioner and what I am looking forward to. And you can tell by the length of the review, considering how I very rarely write reviews. It's just that this game has a certain charm and I find it to be too overlooked. So, keep it up, Devs. All (potentially) new players - hop aboard! Don't expect a highly polished AAA game, but expect a gem with some still rough edges but with its undeniable charme and quality.

I've had my eye on PIONER for quite some time and I personally love looting, crafting and shooting... its basically Destiny 2 with crafting and some lite RPG elements set in a STALKER type post apoc setting... sounds like my dreams come true, so why not give it a try. Be warned it's gonna sound like I hate it, I don't, but I am worried about it in a big, big way. I don't regret buying it, and overall I am having a good time with it and it has a low price point so overall I do recommend it... BUT... whoa momma that's a big but. Well, here we go. Right off the bat PIONER goes places, it's just not a very good place. You're launched into an extremely unnecessary overly obtuse "tutorial" exposition dump that makes zero sense and feels completely disconnected from the rest of the game. There's an idea here, but it feels both too vague and too gibberish to work, I honestly have no idea if the game circles back to some of the story from the tutorial but I almost hope it doesn't. I can't help but feel like the game would be far improved by getting players into the open world areas MUCH faster and just ditching this storyline. I know my brain ditched it. Graphically I think the game does look very good, some biomes are way too brown, but that kinda comes with the setting. Performance wise, for me at least, it runs well and I haven't had any problems with loading or crashing. The loading times for fast travel or changing maps are pretty long though. The sound is a real mixed bag. I'd say the overall sound effects and music are good to fine... but the voice over is so hit or miss that I don't know what to say. Some of the actors are actually good while others are some of the worst I've ever heard. Sometimes they sound like they're far away, or in a tunnel or echo chamber, sometimes their voices seem to switch out of no where. Often your own character says some of the dumbest ♥♥♥♥ possible, and I swear his voice changed on me at one point too. I was literally jump scared by my own character saying something that sounded completely like someone else. The writing is pretty bad. Its often overly flowery and wordy and the translation feels... off. While the grammar seems to be mostly correct it still feels wrong for example no one ever uses any contractions. Also some of the stuff your character shouts is... just in bad taste, quoting movies, tv shows, pop culture... or just screaming at the top of his lungs I"M RELOADING!!, yuck. Granted most of this is forgivable and easily over looked, its still very present. Another big problem is that while the guns themselves feel shockingly good, there's a big disconnect from firing your gun and hitting your target. You can literally hear the bullet leave your weapon and then thwack into your target almost a laughable amount of time later. This happens in reverse too, many times now I've killed a melee attacker to only be hit again by them after they were dead. This might be lag, or net-code... but somehow it feels different than that. It's a bit of a shame that such a core aspect is a little off, but I've definitely had worse. Moving around the world and its large maps can also be a little cumbersome as you're constantly getting stuck on geography, every little rock might as well be a mountain, and invisible walls abound even on things that look like they should be enterable or climbable; often the game just gives you a solid: No. when you were hoping to mantle something. Really its not too bad, but its a big difference between a game that feels really good and one that doesn't feel 100%. Most of the world building or level/map design outside of the tutorial is much, much better. The towns that I've encountered so far are great, they feel lived in, alive, like there's stuff going on and are honestly kinda fun just to look at. It feels like a lot of love has been put into PIONER. There are still some issues with the things I've previously mentioned but I really like the towns and hideaways. That said I wish the player was made to feel more a part of one of them, I long for an apartment or workshop of my own to build and decorate and upgrade. I have yet to find anything that would indicate these things are coming. The overall gameplay of exploration and looting are probably my favorite parts. While its not as loot heavy as fallout there's still some fun loot to be had if you look around. You'll be finding scrap to build equipment, weapon attachments, new weapons, food, potions, healing items, grenades... This is one place where the game's balance actually feels pretty darn good. For example I like looting all the stuff, and then chucking it into my storage back in town. It felt good to upgrade my favorite gun, and make some food with a good stat buff and I'm looking forward to chucking some homemade grenades at anything hostile. For the most part so far the quests have been alright. I definitely have encountered some problems like difficulty spikes and odd ball bugs and jank here and there but nothing that's game breaking or progression locking, yet. Really its all just an excuse for me to explore the maps and loot the heck outta everything and slowly improve my gear... and again that's where for me the game is worth it. I could probably keep writing for a long long time but I've already gone on way too long so to finish this up I just want to go back to the beginning where I said I am kinda worried about this game... and I am. It's definitely early days of early access and a lot could change, but right now the player counts are horrendously low. Why is this even an online only game? Sure there are group dungeons and public events but... outside of towns I only ever saw 1 other person. And why does it have a cosmetics shop with micro-transactions? I do not know. Well I do know, but you know what I mean. Can the game survive all of this? At what point does it become too expensive to keep alive? I'm really rooting for it to catch on a bit and back away from what feels like a dangerous edge. TLDR: Great bones, a lot of content available right now. Very fun for the price point. Still needs a staggering amount of work. Seems to have gotten almost zero exposure, which is very worrisome.

It's fun and it pays to explore. There some bug and some optimization in some areas. but mostly the game runs well. good looking gun play is sold and fun lots of attachment for the guns and you can feel the difference when using different ones. They are actively patching the weekly and sometimes daily. If the keep it up the game will only get better.

PvP zone is a bit of a mess. Full of sweats and exploiters. I just avoid it and stick to PvE. The game is 10x more enjoyable that way‍
