April 2025
I picked this up because I played the second game first (it's free) and liked it. Overall, it's a fun puzzler and it was cool to see how he found a way to turn some artwork into a playable and challenging game. It's divided into three puzzle types, a pattern match, a pathfinder, and one that's like rolling a marble down the hill and seeing where it ends up, with a bit more challenge of course. They're all very different with unique moods. Very well done.

The game itself is very original, I've appreciated the generic plot and the art environment, but the puzzles are very frustrating and completing the game feels like a chore to me. Still, it's a good game, I can only suggest you to try it

This is a game I want to recommend but ONLY to support the developer. Please read on and take this review with a HUGE grain of salt. I got it for 5 bucks so there's nothing to complain about. On the other it is heavily flawed in its execution. I wanted to play it for the art aspect and the background information provided about the art movements within. I played the levels in the following order: The Style New York Boogie Woogie Going forward there will be spoilers (I guess?) The Style and Boogie Woogie are generally fun puzzle designs, New York is an extremely annoying labyrinth game. The issue is not the gameplay style in general, each leveltype wants to tell a story and they are, for me, hit and miss (but more miss), considering it would likely have been more interesting to just put in information about the artists - but that is subjective and I could see other people liking other things. My main issue comes in the difficulty ramp of the puzzles. For the main part, they are perfectly fine. However, both Boogie Woogie and The Style eventually simply remove control over the puzzle. The Style removes vital HUD parts that you need to figure out the puzzle itself without trial and error, making it impossible to come to a logical conclusion that does not require that. I played The Style first. The last 3 or so levels of it have no more visible lines. You have no way of knowing how to solve the puzzle before figuring out the information you should be provided for it. Slightly annoying, but fine, it's 3 levels. I think my main issue comes with the New York puzzle type. Essentially a labyrinth. Again, the issue is difficulty ramp. Rather than making the labyrinth more complex, it gets harder to navigate as more and more visual distraction is added or the field of view is changed and tremendously lowered. This, to me personally, is not fun, or interesting. Coming off of the New York Gallery I should have taken a break but I figured I'd power through the Boogie Woogie storyline, which was my mistake. I should have taken a step away from the game as I was still annoyed. Overall I think Boogie Woogie is the best designed level group (although The Style is more fun), however it too is not safe of the above issues, but they are much reduced. I think there is only one level that completely depends on trial and error. You have only two tries for a handful of possible solutions before you need to restart and the solution gets reshuffled. Verdict - it's an interesting art experience. But this is not how to make puzzles difficult. As it is not a particularly expensive experience I will still leave it with a recommendation, but know the above factors before going into it.
