I really love the visual style and the idea is super cool. The music, characters, atmosphere, everything makes me happy. It’s exactly the kind of game I want to play now in autumn. But there are some problems too. It’s not very intuitive when you start playing and the tutorial feels too overloaded and confusing. Because of this I tried to start the game a few times and just gave up. Still really like it and I’m happy I gave it another chance.
Potion Tycoon is a management simulation game that blends potion-brewing craft loops with shop management mechanics. The setup drops you straight into the action: here is your empty shop - now gather ingredients, brew magic potions, stock your store shelves, and keep the customers coming. Fact: The visual style immediately calls back to Don't Starve Together (DST) with its dark, hand-drawn papercraft aesthetics - giving the shop management loop a whimsical, gothic charm! The Short Answer: Is It Worth Buying? If you catch it on a Steam sale and want a cozy, low-stress resource management game, then yes. At full price, it feels a bit too expensive for what it currently offers. Playtime 2/10 It takes around 10 hours to reach maximum store upgrades and tech progression, with another ~10 hours if you decide to hunt down all Steam achievements. Story 2/10 Virtually non-existent - your shop simply grows and expands, but there’s no grand narrative arc behind your business. Music 4/10 Light, unobtrusive background music that fits the shopkeeper theme without getting annoying. Graphics 4/10 Charming 2D art style visually reminiscent of Don't Starve Together. Mechanics 4/10 The gameplay hits a solid sweet spot for casual management fans: you balance growing/sourcing ingredients, refining potion recipes, managing worker fatigue, and decorating your storefront to maximize sales. The game is quite forgiving and doesn't brutally punish you for supply-chain mistakes. To keep you from setting things on autopilot, dynamic weather conditions (like rain) and random market events pop up to shake up customer demands. Character designs are cute, though the dialogue script severely lacks humor and witty banter (or at least, none stood out in the current localization). On the technical side, the game isn't entirely bug-free - I hit 2 distinct bugs that led to full crashes. While not game-breaking thanks to saves, losing progress to a crash is always an annoying killjoy. Personal Take An addictive, casual management game ideal for anyone who enjoys shopkeeper sims, streamer simulators, or tycoon games. It’s light, relaxing, and easy to sink a few hours into when you want to unwind. If you're looking for deep narrative depth or complex logistics like Potion Craft, this won't fully scratch that itch. But as a laid-back shop-sim to play while relaxing, it’s a fun, cozy experience - just wait for a decent discount! Overall Score: 69/100
I'd say it's a pretty good game, I had a lot of fun. I liked the goals, progression and mechanics. I played it on easy and then master difficulty - the latter was challenging in the beginning and it took a few defeats to stay afloat. Now that was super fun! I wish I had played it on adept or master from the beginning, the regular mode is very chill and quickly leads to unlimited money. The controls could have been better. I hated the fact that you could only close letter and announcement pop-ups with a mouse and not a keyboard. When you play in sped-up mode and multiple such pop-ups appear, your hands start to hurt from having to use the mouse. Quite inconvenient. There were a few bugs when the revenue ledger did not calculate some major expenses (to my benefit, though, hehe) and when loading previous saves the VIPs that were not endorsing me were showing as if they were. That made it challenging to complete the Cult Following goal since I only had one VIP left that could complete this goal and they did not appear for ages. The building mode also had a few bad implementations: cannot replace the items without deleting and re-adding new items, which requires to exit the build menu and then enter again. On top of that, build menu had no shortcut button that I knew about, so a lot of redundant clicking, unfortunately. The visual style is nice and animations are smooth. All in all, I recommend this game.
Good game? Sure but it is rife with problems. Clipping issues between certain items and artworks. One of the quest givers is broken and a few of her quests can't be completed for anything. Stock should be able to be more easily moved, like taking stock off shelves or allowing use of that shelved stock to complete quests, if wanted of course.
