How much you'll enjoy Prehistoric Hunt depends on what you expect from it as a hunting game and as a dinosaur game. Since this is an early access title, expect there to be some jank and a few missing hunting features you may find in bigger hunting titles such as theHunter: Call of the Wild or Way of the Hunter. Gameplay + Insights Prehistoric Hunt can be rough at first, and the grind to obtaining the strongest weapons is not an overnight process. Expect to die a lot from the extremely hostile fauna, especially when you are first learning the game. If you're persistent and don't rage quit over being gored and turned into a chew toy (all part of the experience; don't take it personally), you'll get comfortable enough with it. Focus on contracts to earn money (contracted animals are typically marked on your map). You'll be traveling a lot, so I'd recommend discovering outposts ASAP for fast travel points and prioritizing contracts where the animals are closest to you. As soon as you can, upgrade from your starter weapons to the revolver and hunting rifle. Dinosaurs are heavy and dangerous animals, so one vital shot will typically take them a while to die from. While you should target vitals, don't be afraid to pelt the aggressive game with bullets; the point is to kill them before they kill you so that you can earn money and progress quickly. Better them than you - because every time you die, you lose items and either need to run back or repurchase them for 25% of the original price at a vendor to retrieve them. Efficient trophy hunting becomes easier with more experience and when you get your hands on the heavier rifles such as the .700 Nitro and .50 Cal. Pro Tip 1: Flares can be used to chase away most herbivores and smaller carnivores. If you find yourself being mauled in a situation you cannot survive, use them in a pinch. Pro Tip 2: LISTEN. Distinguishing footsteps and animal calls is crucial for knowing what is around you and minimizing the risk that you get ambushed (because the Tyrannosaurs WILL stalk and ambush you; they can be terrifyingly quiet, and I'm warning you now). Pro Tip 3: Invest in a Tracking Device and play on hard mode once you get good enough. Tracking devices give you access to tracking contracts, which pay MUCH more than standard contracts. Hard mode also gives you 1.5x the reward and pay as normal mode. Combine these two strategies and you can make money very quickly. That all said, if you're good at hunting games, you shouldn't find Prehistoric Hunt too difficult to pick up. Features? Content? The game has a healthy variety of weapons that cover all the bases of a hunting game - rifles, pistols, tranquilizers, bows, and a shotgun. More weapons will be added, and they've recently added two lever-action rifles: a .30-30 and a .45-70. There are currently two islands to hunt on, and an upcoming third map has also been recently announced (one that is desert-themed). There are 20+ species to hunt in-game, with some notable ones being Allosaurus, Carnotaurus, Sarcosuchus, Quetzalcoatlus, Therizinosaurus, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus. More will be added. The animal models are genuinely some of the best I've seen in any media featuring prehistoric creatures. It's refreshing to see high-quality, modern paleo depictions of the game animals when much of dinosaur media is oversaturated with uninspired Jurassic Park knock-offs. The game does not have an advanced tracking system, spotting, or wind and scent systems. As mentioned before, the game is early access and many features are yet to be added. Currently, there is bleed-out based on shot placement, trophy integrity, taxidermy and trophy displaying, shot placement diagrams + damage percentages from each player, multiplayer co-op, competitive leaderboards + weekly challenges, trophy medal systems (bronze, silver, gold, diamond, legendary), and rare skin variations for each species (piebald, xanthochromistic, melanistic, albino, erythristic). Aside from the weight and rarity of an animal, scoring is based on your hunting performance / skill rather than just luck, which makes it feel very rewarding in the long-term as you get better. Closing thoughts Overall, I would safely say that Prehistoric Hunt is the best dinosaur hunting game there is. Though it has a long way to go to be on par with the diamond standard of modern hunting games, the game has also come a long way since it first launched. It has a promising track record with consistent updates, and the developers communicate with the players and are receptive to feedback. If you really want a decent dinosaur hunting game and have the patience to deal with bugs and dying a lot, then definitely try this game on sale.

My opinion comes from someone who played that crap out of theHunter: Primal, this game's most analogous counterpart (rip) My beef: Weapon damage is a bit too predictable (e.g. 5 revolver to the upper chest of a brachy will always drop it with 100% dealing 20% a piece. That doesn't quite feel correct. Dino animations are quite lacking, they tend to skate across the land rather than walk convincingly. Tranqed dinos cannot be shot for damage until they wake up. Game Performance is pretty terrible. People blame unity, but I blame using unity for a "detailed" project rather than a "stylized" one. Why do missions exist if there is only one mission? Lots of bugs, too many after at least 4 years of development tbh: *I've never been able to sell gear and keep the credits. (ammo works sometimes, but never gear, and now i'm too afraid to test it further) *Dinos end up upside down and in the ground about 5% of the time. *Dinos will get stuck in walls or between trees. *Sometimes tracker item will lead you to an empty pinpoint location if you aren't the host. *Radar blips of non contracted dinos will tend to remain on map (also a multiplayer issue) *Inventory will be inaccessible on occasion, you have to open up another chest before you can properly use a medkit or drop gear. * You won't keep the credits if you claim both a pinpointed and hunted contract at the same time. What I like: Starter island is enjoyable. Chopper fast travel (and the radio to call one) is a lifesaver(sometimes literally if you don't drop a rex before it comes to bite you) weapon variety is nice, and weapon cost progression was fixed in latest update. (before you had to go from 500 to 7000 coin to get a *good* weapon, so A LOT of saving) Completed (not active) contracts persist between sessions, so no need to return to base and dump your contracts, you can safely quit anywhere and not lose money. You can kite the rex in circles if you don't kill it immediately. Anyhoo, the gameplay loop is pretty enjoyable, and familiar to tHP veterans. Recent sale brought an influx of players, so at least it isn't DOA

A fun and laid back (sort of relaxing once you get some skill and better guns). Quite terrifying at first as you can get killed by almost anything. 24 hours + in and you can still die from time to time when caught off guard but nowhere near the amount of when you first start. Overall the game is fun, but does get repetitive and is a bit of a grind. However, I have enjoyed the grind and love that you can't just pay 5 extra dollars in game or whatever to unlock the better guns and gear. That being said, once I grind out all the guns I want (50 cal all that is currently left, I went for the 0.700 double barrel over the 50 cal and I highly recommend) I think the game will become repetitive and not really worth playing because nothing left to grind for (except some rare dino skins to put in your trophy room - which is fun but I am starting to amass a collection already). I think in another 6-8 hours, I will have essentially played out the game for myself (solo play) and maybe only revisit here and there for major updates or if I just want to chill out for a few hours and hunt some dinos. That being said, if I can get some friends to play with me then maybe the game can live on and I think it would be fun with friends. Just would like that the kills work with everyone's claims/contracts/trophy rooms/etc.

Dinosaur Hunting is a genre of games largely relagated to mobile-cash grabs and re-releases of the old Carnivores games, so Prehistoric Hunt is a breath of fresh air. The Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Wildlife are Stunning representations of the real animals. The Gunplay is simple yet effective, with my only complaint being the weapon pricing. This leads into another issue I've got; this game is grindy. most of the weapons cost several THOUSAND of the currency, while most missions will give you around 20-30 credits. The lighting, much like most unity projects, is a bit janky, and the visuals are nothing to write home about. For an early access game, it is extremley fleshed out, with two maps, alongside workshop support! Overall, Prehistoric Hunt Is a solid game, and a breath of fresh air for Hunting simulators that will only get better with time! Rating: 7/10

Yes! Just yes! What this game lacks in graphics, it makes up for in sheer atmosphere. The environment, the soundscape (OMG the soundscape), everything is just incredible. The game also oozes passion, it's clear the developer puts a lot of thought into everything they put in the game. For the price point, I 100% recommend to everyone I speak to. Multiplayer just adds another layer of fun, nothing like stalking a Carno in the dark together, only to be jumped by a pack of Raptors out of nowhere. Screaming, laughter and utter chaos ensues.
