March 2026
Extremely Cheap Mech Game (In a Good Way) I was expecting this game to be very mid, and I have to say, while graphics and presentation are not its strong suits, the gameplay is quite nice. If you are a fan of Armored Core, Gundam, or even Ace Combat, Project Nimbus is well worth your time. The gameplay is rather simple, mainly focusing on constantly switching weapons to take down as many enemies as possible between reloads and flying around at ludicrous speeds, which never stops being fun. The gliding nature of the Battle Frames makes them a perfect combination of fighter jet and mobile suit, especially when using the game’s coolest feature: the cockpit view (which is fully rendered and changes between mech models). And I have to say, as a mecha fan, it definitely scratched that itch we get once in a while to play a game with giant robots. I would like to finish this review by saying there is no reason not to buy this and support its developer. This game is dirt cheap, it’s fun, not too long, not too difficult, and for an indie game of its nature (let alone a mech game), it has above-average quality exactly where it needs to: the voice acting and gameplay (which, surprisingly enough, have a very unique feel compared to other games in the genre, especially when playing in first person). This is a good, cheap mecha game well worth a playthrough, especially for its price.

This is basically a dirt cheap version of Zone of the Enders, which plays a lot worse, looks a lot worse, sounds a lot worse and runs a lot worse than Zone of the Enders. Also the last few missions have these damn annyoing blade attacks that just one or two shot you, so that also sucks. Especially since the controls are quite horrendous too, though I did play on keyboard and mouse, so I don't know if they're any better on controller. On the japanese voice setting, some of the voice lines also just randomly cut out or stop, along with one of the earlier missions randomly getting english voices for a couple pieces of dialogue. All that being said, I did get the game for like 1 or 2 €, so taking that into consideration does keep the game on the positive side. Overall like a 3/10, since I was still able to finish the game.

This game caught my attention when I saw a flying mecha and many targets. As others have stated, the story is a little all over the place, but this game is not story centered, as it just allows to progress with a little narrative between stages. The gameplay is fun! You have different machines that feel different to control and with noticeable firepower changes. The music is good. Difficulty can be adjusted from easy to a real challenge!

Reminds me of Zone of the Enders and some other underground cool mecha game that I used to play during 2007 or so.
