This is a good game. But it is just not popular. This title has done something that many other titles failed to do. Give you access to a great deal of customization that allows you to create fan made versions of mecha from popular media, be it animated or just drawn. You can also create the weaponry for these mecha and you can use them all to fight enemies in the world of the game. The combat for this game is its biggest negative, as the movement of the mecha fells as heavy as it should but also looks a bit too clunky. Enemies who are hit with attacks recover a bit too fast from your attacks making you feel that even if you land a full combo on a target, they can and often times will retaliate right after. It is for this reason boss battles feel as if they are overwhelming... even though you can complete each and every boss fight in the game with without tacking much dmg if you have a properly leveled mecha. You have ways to avoid the dmg with blocking and or dodging with your boosters but these small blemishes on the otherwise sparkling image of them game seems to be enough to keep audiences from continuing to play. That being said... the combat works fine! No fight feels totally unwinnable. No goal feels out of reach. Enemies feel as powerful as they should on the different difficulties. The Main reason reason this game did not do so well was poor promotion. Not many people know of this title in the mainstream and as such it has gone under the radar. There are cute characters left and right, a good story, great gameplay, cool customization, Interesting enemies, and with a very communicative dev team... this game should have been at the very least well known as a video game.

I am only recommending this game to those who like building model kits and mech customization. The combat is not good and very janky but the amount of customization you can make in a mech is very satisfying.

For the cost of a gunpla, you get virtual gunpla. 25 main missions, plus a handful of side missions, and three endless wave levels so far. The story doesn't really stand out on the English side of things and seems really stilted at times. It's a typical post-apocalyptic invasion scenario with a few human factions that only comes up in a few missions to give you fights against other mecha besides the aliens. Near the end, one of the characters is allowed to commit exterminatus on a group of remaining humans and isn't punished "because she's a special case." Don't play the game for the story. Plays a lot better with a controller, but it's a bit stiff as of 1.0.5. Removing animation cancels for dodging was a bad idea imo, with how easy it is to get swarmed if you do a melee build. It's easy to get swarmed because of the camera. It needs to be zoomed out at least twice as far as it is right now to be better, but that's kind of hard to do on the interior maps. Turn auto lock-on off for any hope of controlling the camera in later missions. The levels themselves are fine, some bosses cheese a lot, so use what the game gives you and cheese back. You will grind to get money to unlock parts or the next node in the tech tree. For me, this is a solid 7.5/10 game. It's also one of the few mecha games that isn't tied to an existing IP that I'm glad has released.

Now it's finally complete and I've fully played it I think now's a good time to do a review, M.A.S.S is a game that for all the time in the making might seem like not all that much but it has some outstanding customisation in terms of mecha building, there are enough missions and some are decently fun enough but with a let down of a final boss not in terms of design but in how intentionally underpowered the devs make you for some reason (unless it was a glitch because Q did not work) that said there's a myriad of ways to build you M.A.S.S unit and a fair amount of weapon types and looks of which if I delved in deeper (and I will) I could have made some crazy weapons and mecha designs with what they give you, in short it's fun enough and great if you like making varied mecha designs dood. Okay full review time, M.A.S.S focuses on an event where creatures known as Quarks came into being, threatening humanity as a whole, you with funding from a certain someone take on requests to eliminate these creatures for humanity dood. The game plays rather interestingly if not kind of a lot to remember, especially with the speed of things, you have Melee weapons of which you can equip many, possibly due to the variety and element system, (I'll get to that in a bit) You change between these by holding L2 down and pushing in the left stick, not the most intuitive but it works, then you have physical type bullet guns, L2 left on the D-pad to change, energy based guns, L2 and right on D-pad, Missiles of varying types, L2 and up on D-pad and finally what I'll call energy drone that float and have a rather interesting variety of attacks, L2 and down on the D-pad, as you can tell there's a looot to keep up with along with a special thing you get later that requires holding L2 R1 and a direction on the right stick to use, it's all fun stuff but in the heat of combat? It's a nightmare to use on the fly, especially switching from gun to melee dood. I will also mention melee weapons range from single handed, dual wield and 2 handed type weapons, two handed/dual are typically stronger but unlike the one handed it can't use the shield, I will say the shield has it's own issues though, unless you equip certain things it feels as though it doesn't really do enough to make it useful and the things that do make it useful don't make it too useful and in fact heavily penalise you for not blocking in the case of the actual most useful one, at base it should really half damage but taking the time to test it out I went from taking 700ish damage to taking...700ish damage? Yeah confusing right? Almost seems just for show unless you equip certain things dood. Talking about equipping "certain things" you have a whole upgrade chart for three OS system types, these systems have a huge variety of effects and modules you can equip allowing for multiple effects, including boosting elemental type attacks, something I neglected to mention until now, each weapon can be fire, ice or lightning damage, each weapon also has non elemental types, physical for melee, pierce for physical bullets and plasma for energy types, enemies all have a weakness to at least one element and I believe the normal damage types are there just for the peeps who wanna be lazy about it and just smash dood. The mech making in this is pretty insane and could only have been better if they decided to add tank treads or a hover base option, otherwise you have a heck of a lot to play with, each part has a bunch of sections of which you can colour using a bunch of set palettes or custom ones you can make, you can also put letters/symbols onto the machine from a list of them and unique separate parts of which you can move around and get really unique with, parts much like weapons need blueprints and money to make though and you get those from playing the game and beating quarks dood. Talking of crafting and parts, I will say that for as much as there is in the game, the amount of money you earn isn't all that great, you have better ways to earn money with certain modules you can equip or mission types but the modules will leave you weaker than you'd like on missions meaning they take more time which means less money in a long run scenario and the other quest types albeit fun take a long while, I'm unsure if co-op has better payouts I admit not playing those modes due to personal reasons but I can't imagine them having much more payout dood. There are three quest types, Story which is self explanatory, hunt which is just a killing spree of enemy units and challenge, these range from three unique game types with different conditions, last long enough and you get some outstanding pay (round 19 is my limit) as well as a loooot of blueprint parts, at least for the first two, the last one is a boss rush, fun enough dood. The maps are pretty decent and become large too, I will say the game does suffer from some combat issues though, melee enemies no matter how fast I seem to get basically just cling to you making thruster speed feel kinda of meh outside of reaching a shooter class enemies just a little faster and getting through larger levels a little faster too, this is also an issue based on how shield recharge can only happen if you aren't getting hit, something that is nearly an impossibility with some enemy types, personally my suggestion would be to have shields always regenerate just at a somewhat slower pace, otherwise some enemies/bosses are a nightmare to fight against, on top of that attacking things isn't very accurate for melee even if you lock onto them, it's not the worst but when the enemies have wide range or are super accurate themselves with every hit with insane tracking, it would be nice to know I can actually hit them when it counts dood. The photo mode is fun and something I highly appreciate in a game where you can make many mecha, I do feel in the future if they do more with this that a few more weapon types and parts for weapons in particular would be nice, especially when it comes to showing off your mecha, weapons can be just as important as the mech itself in terms of looks after all but as it stands there's plenty there overall to have some fun flashy pictures with dood. Oh as a little side note I will say that missiles need a major damage boost, even if the cost is them having very limited ammo, as it stands even my normal guns do more damage faster which isn't exactly giving me or anyone a reason to bother targeting the enemy to have them track, more effort than it's worth at that point dood. And that's it really, it's a game that ranges from a decent time to a super fun time based on what you like most in games like these, it has it's flaws as I've mentioned but it sounds like they are doing more with the game still even after full release so who knows, maybe they'll iron out some of the issues eventually? Thanks for reading and if ya buy it I hope you have a blast dood!

its a mech customisation game first and everything else second. If you really like designing mechs, and its on sale, get it. if you want any semblance of interesting characters or worldbuilding this aint it chief. That being said, the combat isnt that great but its enough to be turn your brain off enjoyable. Would love a full customisation mode with all parts unlocked from the beginning
