A masterpiece disguised as a kids' game. The first impression this game provides is rough and unappealing; it gives you the sensation that it will be an uninteresting and boring experience, but those doubts are shut down pretty quickly once you get accustomed to the world and start exploring it. I fell in love with the art direction followed in this game. It's unique, quirky, and rough in a certain way, but it meshes together perfectly to provide an enjoyable experience. The main area is ok, but where it really shines is in the crazy and over-the-top level designs; you never know what you are going to find. The cutscenes are also really well animated. On top of that, every character has distinct aspects and personalities, resulting in memorable interactions. Combining excellent design with equally impressive voice acting ends up yielding great results. The dialog is witty, and the humor works really well for a supposedly expected kids' game, catching me off guard multiple times. Overall, the main concept the game tries to play out works exceptionally. As a collectathon, it does everything right. It's not overbearing, and it incentivizes you indirectly and with no real nerf to a casual playthrough. The main currency to buy items can be a hassle to collect, but there are cheats for that purpose while still being able to unlock all achievements. As a platformer, it takes some time to get used to. It's not perfect, and there are definitely some aspects where it could be improved, but it's also not unplayable. Controlling your camera can be tough, and sometimes your character moves in unexpected ways, making some areas harder than they should be. As you progress throughout the game, you will unlock more and more powers that can be used in various circumstances, resulting in some unique interactions. It's really cool to see that the devs thought of these situations and created corresponding reactions. All powers are unique and have their own quirks, being useful even while exploring. The game tries to make every power usable by creating an array of different situations where a specific power is the solution. They are also extremely important in combat, especially in boss fights, requiring the player to figure out how to defeat them using an extensive array of possible solutions. Also, the experience with a controller is a hundred times better.

PLAY. THIS. (Also use Steam's controller mappings since this game only supported XB360 controllers and doesn't like the newer controllers)

One of my favourite games of all time, much better than the sequel in my opinion. Plays amazingly on the Steam deck at 90 fps and still looks great to this day on it. It does require a bit of set up to get things running well and to be able to have the correct button prompts, search for the ‘Steam Deck Tweeks’ guide by wamel for that.

Maybe I'm crazy but this was like a 10/10 game for me. Really brought me back to why I play games, like that one scene in ratatouille with the food reminding him of childhood. Like, the weird, Tim Burton style characters, the art matching each level, the comedy... It really reminded me of a time game creators took wild risks and just expressed a fun story with enjoyable gameplay. Highly recommend unless you hate platformers or fun

This game did not work on my steam deck. The camera kept spinning and it was unplayable. So please be aware if you are planning to play it on a steam deck. Because of that steam deck issue, I played it on my desktop PC and it was great. The level designs are very creative and I really liked how they tried to tackle mental illness in a very creative way. Platforming and collecting is fun and engaging too. I really recommend this game.
