A simple and relaxing puzzle game, Quell only has a few mechanics but each puzzle manages to implement them in more creative ways. Each level introduces more interesting paths and solutions that really make you think about how movement works. While some levels are fairly intuitive and can be solved in a few seconds, others pose a true challenge in trying to optimize the number of moves. Finding jewels also poses a fun challenge in addition to solving each level regularly. Highly recommend if you are into simple puzzle games that can be completed in a few hours.

Quell is a thoughtfully crafted puzzle game that demonstrates how elegant design and a calming atmosphere can leave a lasting impression without relying on flashy visuals or intense action. Developed by Fallen Tree Games Ltd and published by Green Man Gaming Publishing, it revolves around a deceptively simple concept that gradually unfolds into an engaging series of increasingly intricate challenges. Players control a small droplet of water that slides across compact puzzle boards, collecting pearls while avoiding hazards and navigating carefully arranged obstacles. Although the mechanics are easy to grasp, mastering the game's many stages requires careful planning, logical thinking, and a willingness to experiment with every possible move. The gameplay is built around momentum-based movement, where the droplet continues traveling in one direction until it encounters a barrier. This straightforward mechanic forms the foundation for a surprisingly diverse collection of puzzles that become more demanding as new elements are introduced. Every stage feels handcrafted, rewarding players who take the time to study the layout before making a move. Rather than depending on random events or artificial difficulty spikes, Quell steadily expands upon its core ideas, ensuring that each new puzzle feels fresh while remaining consistent with the game's fundamental rules. The result is a satisfying progression that welcomes newcomers while still offering enough complexity to challenge experienced puzzle fans. One of the game's greatest strengths is its soothing presentation. Its clean visual style emphasizes clarity over spectacle, allowing players to focus entirely on solving each puzzle without unnecessary distractions. Soft lighting, gentle animations, and carefully designed environments create an atmosphere of quiet reflection that perfectly complements the gameplay. Even after many hours, the minimalist aesthetic retains its charm because every visual element serves a clear purpose, reinforcing the game's tranquil identity instead of overwhelming it with excessive detail. The audio design further elevates the experience through a beautiful soundtrack composed by Steven Cravis. The relaxing piano melodies and ambient musical arrangements create a peaceful mood that transforms each puzzle into a calming mental exercise. Rather than generating tension, the soundtrack encourages concentration and patience, making even the more difficult stages feel rewarding instead of frustrating. Combined with subtle sound effects, every successful solution delivers a quiet sense of accomplishment that fits naturally within the game's reflective tone. Beyond its puzzle mechanics, Quell also tells a heartfelt story through understated environmental storytelling. Instead of relying on lengthy dialogue or dramatic cutscenes, the game gradually reveals an emotional narrative centered on memory, loss, love, and healing. These themes provide meaningful context to the puzzle-solving journey, giving players a reason to continue beyond simply clearing levels. The story remains subtle throughout, allowing players to interpret its emotional significance while preserving the relaxing pace that defines the overall experience. The game's pacing deserves particular recognition because it consistently introduces new ideas without overwhelming the player. Every collection of puzzles builds naturally upon previous lessons, encouraging strategic thinking and experimentation. Success comes from observation and careful planning rather than quick reactions, making each completed puzzle feel genuinely earned. The carefully balanced difficulty curve keeps the experience engaging from beginning to end, avoiding both repetitive simplicity and unnecessarily punishing complexity. Replay value comes from refining puzzle solutions and revisiting earlier stages with greater efficiency. Players who enjoy optimizing their performance will appreciate the opportunity to complete puzzles using fewer moves while fully appreciating the elegant construction behind each level. Although the game is not designed around endless content, its carefully crafted puzzles encourage multiple playthroughs simply because solving them remains satisfying long after the first completion. Quell may not appeal to players looking for fast-paced action or constant mechanical variety, as its deliberate pace and minimalist philosophy remain consistent throughout the adventure. However, those who appreciate thoughtful puzzle design, relaxing gameplay, and subtle storytelling will discover an experience that excels through refinement rather than excess. It successfully proves that a simple concept, when supported by intelligent level design and exceptional presentation, can be every bit as memorable as far more ambitious productions. Overall, Quell is an outstanding puzzle game that combines clever mechanics, relaxing audiovisual design, and quiet emotional storytelling into a remarkably cohesive package. Fallen Tree Games Ltd crafted an experience that values intelligence, patience, and atmosphere, while Green Man Gaming Publishing helped deliver this memorable title to a broader audience. Its polished gameplay, carefully structured progression, and enduring sense of tranquility make it one of the more rewarding puzzle experiences available for players seeking a thoughtful and relaxing challenge. Interesting puzzle game, relatively easy 100%, may take some time, but there are ways to help you solve it if you use the points you ear from each perfect completion.
