Is it a fun game to spend half an hour or even 3 hours? Yes Is it super in depth and will you be super challenged on strategy? No Is this a game that will end up with thousands and thousands of hours in your library? No Will you replay the campaign in this 1000000 times? No, probably like 5-10 times, after finishing my first one recently (so you can do that in about 8 hours, maybe even a bit quicker, on the normal difficulty) Is it worth the full price? No, but I recommend it when it is on sale!
She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. This is a Roman chariot racing game with a satisfying mix of light strategy and push-your-luck, random event modifiers to keep things interesting, and large store/upgrade system for your chariots, horses, and charioteers. Runs flawlessly on Steam Deck despite saying it is unsupported on the store page. The controls feel great on Deck and it's my preferred platform for this game. Pick Qvadriga up when it goes on sale.
Runs flawlessly on Steam Deck. I played a lot of this back on iOS before all the 32 bit apps got killed off. Delighted to report that it runs flawlessly on Steam Deck so I'm back in the game. Other than naming your team at the start, and optionally renaming any charioteers, everything is controlled with a single click at a time. It's perfectly viewable on the Deck screen, and when connected to an external display you can crank the resolution all the way up and it's still smooth as butter. Which is as it should be, for such a simple little game. The game itself is a strangely compelling turn-based chariot racing sim. It's not super deep, you just try and win races, get better horses and chariots, gain fame, and enter ever bigger races. But the moment to moment jockeying for position on the track, deciding when to go super-aggressive and when to hold back, is a simple pleasure where there's just nothing else like it out there. It looks basic, and in many ways it is basic, but it does its one thing so very well that coming back in to try and get your provincial team all the way up to the Circus Maximus in Rome is at times nailbitingly exciting. One bad turn taken too fast, your chariot overturning, and your star auriga getting run down by a rival charioteer can suddenly turn a good run bad. It's good, it's fun, it's unique.
