Rebel Cops is a great albeit rather difficult turn-based combat police sim. You play as good cops trying to stop a crime lord and all of his goons and corrupt cops that he has on his pay roll. Timeline-wise, this games takes place after This is The Police 1 and 2, and you will see a certain character from those games make an unmissable appearance, and definitely leave his mark. The story is good. The gameplay is difficult by design, and you really have to lock the hell in to take out the kingpin and his enterprise. The Estate mission specifically is notoriously horrendous, but if you succeed, it's a kind of learning curve that will make you ready for almost anything else the game throws at you, and give you the capital needed to continue carrying out your police work. Saves are limited and difficulty-based, however, do yourself a favour and play with unlimited saves, you'll thank yourself for that decision later. Personally, I saved every turn, to be able to go back and change strategy when necessary. That, and in-between shots, to conserve the ammunition and to be able to take out every enemy. There are many choices you can make, such as who to arrest and who to execute, but that just depends if you wanna be a lawful cop, a pragmatist who does whatever is necessary, or simply a grinder who wants the most xp per action possible. If you're the latter, I found that u can lock the hostile NPCs in place by repeatedly whacking them with the baton, so if u arrest or take everyone out but a few enemies, u can smack them indefinitely for 10xp per smack. Tideous, but definitely easy to farm. There are a few approaches to each level, with only 2 being an all-out shoot-out, so keep your rifle by your side and stock up on ammo. Revolvers may be inferior to pistols, but don't rush to sell them, as they are still weapons and ammo that you can use in your police work. Oh, and try to keep your cops alive, you only have so much men to go around, and making bad decisions and/or being a bad leader won't end well. I don't really have many comments on the gun mechanics, or armor mechanics and stuff like that. Just take appropriate cover, and again, I highly suggest to save before every shot, whether you're doing the shooting yourslf or you're being attacked. And before you say that's completely cheating, most gunfights will end up with your cops getting injured in some way, so load a save, maybe you'll get lucky and the enemies will miss completely. Overall, this is a highly nuanced turn-based game, so take your time, make some saves, and enjoy the challenge! I enjoyed this one despite the difficulty, and that said, I'm off to play the games that came before it, as the wiki is the only reason I could even begin to connect certain dots post-ending haha.
Honesty this is an awesome game. Every day after school heading back home, eagerly I will always get on my Xbox and play this game. Like sometimes this is the only game I would play weeks on end without being bored. This was a tuff game but honesty a very fun one really got me thinking even during Covid. I bought this game on Steam again just to relive the memories one more time. Thank you for making this game, and thank you for making my childhood memories
I remember playing for two hours during the Estate mission, during my 5th or 6th run I final got into the mansion but thanks to my clumsiness I accidentally forgot to dispose of two bodies so all the guards knew where my team was. So usually they flooded the mansion and I was put in the defense by complete surprise, the firefight lasted around 14 minutes of me trying not to ♥♥♥♥ up. By the end 2 enemies remained and only 2 out of 4 of my cops survived, but unfortunately one of them ran out of ammo. Not seeing an alternative I took the gun and ammo of a wounded officer (he died the next turn). And by the next I gunned down one of them leaving only one left, However I accidentally placed her In a bad spot so the last ♥♥♥♥ got a good shot at her, instantly wounding her in the second shot. Then the next turn came, she gunned him down but she will die in the next 3 to 4 turns. And luckily for me. I FORGOT TO GIVE ANYONE THE MED KIT. After this unfortunate realization I became desperate, I had just spent 80 turns in this godforsaken mission, I tried googling for a solution, Then I read that fridges might have medkits (Idk where I read that from) So I tried to move the character to the kitchen, but by then I was too late. As she desperately held tight on for what life she still had, looking at her deceased comrades and dead enemies, she had the curse of being the only one to survive this massacre. And after what felt like an eternity she finally made it to the kitchen, but by then It was too late. She fell in silence, not next to her comrades, but to the only thing that would have made this damn mission worth it. the fridge. And to this day I am not sure if there was a med kit in the kitchen...
Great game if you like turn based combat. Doesnt have as much story in it, but the gameplay is much better than in This is the police 2 (v for speeding time, unlimited saves). Each mission is really something different, but the Estate mission is a bit much at the beginning. Combat and stealth are both very nicely inplemented, but some missions look like they can be silent but change mid mission, so if you dont have decked out cops it might be hard. The loot collection is kinda wierd. Preformance isnt that good on the minimum specs and there arent many quality settings, but it is workable. Would recommend, but only if you liked the mehanic in This is the police 2
Very different from previous games, This is the Police 1 and 2, where this is pure turn based with no management aspect. I found it a lot of fun, however there is one very early mission that was pure hell and I was tempted to give up. But if you can push through the worst mission it really is worth finishing it!
