This is a great strategy game for people looking for something more grand-scale than the usual squad-based tactics games we usually see like Mechanicus and Chaos Gate, and more traditional than Dawn of War 1/2 (shame there never was a third right ?) The graphics are obviously nothing to go crazy over but I like it, it looks nice for its style and everything is clear, you instantly know what you're looking at. You get to play around the dozens of tanks, artillery pieces and infantry units fielded by the Guard, and later on by various Space Marines chapters. On that last note, I am a bit disappointed that the deeper you get into the campaign, the less optimal it becomes to still be using Guard infantry or Russ tanks. With the sheer number of heavy and superheavy units the Orks get in the later levels, you're sort of shooting yourself in the foot if you're not using tons of Baneblade chassis and Space Marine infantry. Guard infantry, even veterans, can easily be destroyed in a single turn if a single superheavy unit just looks at them, Ogryns fare batter but you're still better off using Astartes which is kind of a shame. I would have liked to see a system where you have a very strict limit for the amount of Marine units you can bring, making them into shock troops while the core of your army would be made of cheaper, but more numerous (and hopefully experienced if you managed to get them through several missions) guard units, including non-superheavy tanks. Still I really like the game, it's tough at points but I guess that's accurate lore-wise. I managed to sort of install the More Factions mod, at least to get more units for the Guard and Marines, but it's a shame you can't play Sentinels optimally given how fragile and weak they are.

I really like this game! It's a simple game but it's also rich of content. The animations are minimal but this allows the player to field a ton of different units, there are no turn based Warhammer 40k games that give you this kind of freedom. There is also a ton of lore and many important characters from the setting appear in the game. There are 6 different unique campaigns. It was removed from Steam only to be re-released at a cheaper price with all the DLCs included.

A hex-based tactics game that really leans into its tabletop roots. Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon plays more like a classic wargame than a modern RTS: slow, methodical, all about positioning, attrition and building up a battered veteran army over many missions. The presentation is pretty barebones and the UI can feel clunky, but underneath there’s a surprisingly deep campaign with lots of unit variety, satisfying artillery and that grim, industrial 40K atmosphere. If you enjoy turn-based strategy where every move counts and don’t mind dated graphics or a slower pace, this is a very solid and oddly relaxing way to sink dozens of hours into the war for Armageddon.
