Do yourself a favour and buy this game. The only strategy / tactics roguelike I've played that's in the same league as FTL. Not quite as easy to jump into as FTL, but then again it has much more in-depth and engrossing quests and side-quests.

Back in the day I picked up the game after watching TotalBiscuits "WTF Is... - Renowned Explorers: International Society?" -video. It looked like lot's of fun and I had to try it myself. What did I know Renowned Explorers became one of my all time favorite games and it's still to this date the only game I have 100% achievements unlocked. The mechanics keep the game interesting like how changing the team captain changes your run a lot and you can play around so much with the crew composition. While I can now plan what crew I pick and decide on what expeditions to take and aim for certain outcomes, a new player can just pick up what sounds interesting and head out on an adventure to calm down the angry sheep and see what kind of secrets they will uncover from The Globus Cruciger. I personally love board games and to me this game has lot's of similar feeling to those. You pick up starting setup and build and optimize your strategy, but even well laid plans don't always end up like you thought. I recall one of my favorite expeditions was attempt to take on two 5 star expeditions with Victor on my team who has campfire story that allows you to take on harder expeditions than you could normally. It was quite the epic adventure, and I think I got my own highscores there. I am still waiting for Renowned Explores 2, thankfully Reus 2 has bit of the same feeling that I enjoy in this game so much, so that will keep me busy for a while.

Very interesting take on the rouge like dungeon crawler, I would recommend this game if you can find it in a deal somewhere. It would also be great for kids as it can show situations can be solved without the use of violence.

I love this game. Tons of unlockables without DLC barriers. DLC is entirely separate campaigns with completely different mechanics. It's a roguelike RPG where story elements are revealed through finishing exploration campaigns and reading newspaper excerpts, in campfire tales which are unlockable through playing the game with various character combinations which vastly increases replayability, and through interractions with boss level characters in each expedition. Between expeditions you spend resources equipping, doing click actions to acquire more resources to spend on skill trees, and hiring help to give you buffs for resource gathering. It is punishing. You will die a lot as the RNG/dice rolling elements give you great fortune, but the combat system is very unforgiving especially as you are forced to try different player combos to unlock more content. 10/10 tons of fun. Bought at full price because it scratched an itch and was one of the first games that was fully steam machine compatible with the steam controller. So it works on the deck, fine, obviously.

In this gem you can seduce sheep, shank nuns and visit Scotland. God how I love it. Also features the greatest archaeological rivalry of them all. Indy and Belloq haven't got a prayer. A masterpiece if there ever was one. This game is just inspired. More heart and soul than your home town, guaranteed.
