Update: The game does use GenAI and it has not been declared on their Steam page. This needs correcting from the developers fast. I would have happily waited another 6 months for the game to be acted by the actors for those parts or if they used actual artists. Just because people are hyped is no excuse to waste money on the GenAI. Apart from some audio glitches -- which was from fast editing by the devs -- the game is flawless! Brings the cinema just as much as last time. Being able to play out alternative endings longer than written words was such a bonus. I am exploring alternative storylines before I try to become the Empress and it's pulling on the heart strings. Everyone who worked on the game should be so proud
I wanted Li Tai so baddddd, He could eat it through the jeans for all I care!!! but yet one night with Li zhi im bouncing all over it!?? the politics part made me think I was playing AOE but I liked how interactive it was through the choices we picked I think the acting esp the main female MC was phenomenal, shes my chinese Zendaya
I like the concept and the chemistry between the actors but felt like the canon path was forced. If they make another one of these choose your own adventure games, maybe don't base it on real people and history so we aren't forced down a route based on history and can actually carve our own original path and story.
I loved it really, especially how it's based of Wu Zetian However, there are some critiques about Li Tai's route and AI usage in the game. Li Tai's route, it just felt bittersweet and incomplete. It's definitely disappointing to those who really like him especially since the marketing differs from how the game is regarding his route. I hope the developers will add a dlc expansion pack for his route one day. As for the ai, I didn't really notice it until the end. And I must say, it's very disappointing now that I do. You can see that the game quality is actually good and has high budget. It's really an insult to those who did put such effort into the game like the actors. Pity to have spend so many hours in a game without finding out about it earlier. I still enjoyed my experience in the end, but knowing this now also just kinda ruined it for me. I would rate this game in between good and bad.
A truly wonderful game and an even better sequel. The team has clearly put a tremendous amount of effort into creating a narratively engaging and breathtaking story filled with drama, love, and suspense. I especially want to praise the writing team and the actors portraying the characters. Their work brings remarkable emotional complexity and depth to the cast. This game has even inspired me to learn more about Wu Zetian and Chinese culture in general. One criticism I do have concerns the generative AI artwork used later in the game. I found it a bit disappointing, as I will always prefer weaker visual effects over the use of AI-generated art. To the development team: please reconsider the use of AI in future projects. I would gladly support your beautifully crafted games and even spend more money on them if you moved away from AI-generated assets. I personally found the comedic moments consistently entertaining and well-executed. However, one aspect that felt disappointing was the death of the Second Prince in the side story. That storyline could have benefited from more development and a longer buildup before reaching such an abrupt conclusion. In the main story, I felt there was enough time to connect with His Majesty, making his death far more impactful. In the side story, it felt like we barely had enough time to truly get to know the prince before he died. I also have a request if DLC is being considered. It could be interesting to include an ending where Lady Wu is able to remain with both romantic partners. I think many players would enjoy having that option. Finally, much love for Princess Gaoyang. Her story is incredibly tragic, but throughout it I kept wishing someone could shake some sense into her and remind her that she is worth far more than a monk she only knew for a few months.
