This game is gorgeous and the soundtrack is very nice. However the gameplay is very slow and very "make your own game". It mostly consists of driving around a fairly empty landscape, and then climbing some towers... with some very obviously inspired by BotW climbing and stamina mechanics. There is no combat, it's exploration for its own sake doing minor tasks that largely seem to be fetch quests. It's an open world, but that means it can't really do set pieces or timed music the way something like Journey, or Sword of the Sea do. The lack of combat and meaningful rewards means it lacks some of the motivation something like Zelda or Dark Souls would have to encourage you to explore it all. I didn't get too far into the game, but the opening tutorial takes nearly an hour, and then seeing what it had to offer once it opened up, I knew it wasn't going to be for me. It's very calm and meditative, and for those that like to explore for exploration sake, or to just get caught up in the world, they might find a real true gem here. Other reviewers put in many more hours than I did seem to have found things to like about it, but I don't personally want to play it any further. I won't downvote the game or give it a negative review for that, it's exactly what it wants to be... it's just not for me.

As someone who enjoyed Zelda : Breath of the Wild but wasn't too big on combat, this might be one of my new favourite games. I do have some constructive criticism, but I'll start with the positives. [No spoilers for the story] TLDR at the end. Pros : World : The feeling of open world is truly incredible. It's a perfect mix of Zelda BotW and Outer Wilds. Some might critique the big "empty" spaces, but to me it's a realistic depiction of what deserts are actually like, and the biomes vary anyway. The quick travel makes it almost too easy, so I challenged myself not to use it. The visuals are beautiful, both in the vast deserts and in the town and campments. The amount of detail in these is baffling. While traveling, you will often take a "ooh what's that" detour before reaching your destination. Gameplay : There is no life or durability system for anything, as it's really centered around exploration. I had to get used to a world where nothing was out to get me lmao. There is no real main quest to accomplish. It truly encompasses the concept of enjoying the journey instead of the destination. The side quests are optional, but each of them is a unique experience. Using the bike is a pleasure, and the climbing system is very fun. Puzzles : Though the puzzles and enigmas vary in concept, the main form of puzzle are vessels (what would be closest to the concept of dungeons) and I they're a good brain scratch without being too hard. Story : The main character has her own fun personality, which shows amongst other things in during dialogue. It's really a story about finding your own path (and more precisely, career). Almost every npc is surprisingly chill and wholesome, and a solid part of them use neutral pronouns (I can always appreciate representation). Bonus points because the neutral pronouns were also translated (at least in french as far as I know). The world/planet also has its own backstory, which you can only discover by exploring. It's also an interesting depiction of how social networking works, as far as side quests go. Customization : Though you can mix and match your numerous outfits, the bike has really extensive customization with a lot of bike parts with different stats and colors to choose from. Music : it's nice, it's sweet, nothing to say Cons : The reward system needs some tweaking for sure. Some side quests keep giving you badges for masks you already have, and you can't even sell the excess. Same with bike dyes. It wouldn't have been that hard to replace it with money or something. And some outfits are cool, but for a game that hypes you up so much about acquiring masks, most of them are just plain ugly in my opinion. In the 8 masks I have for now, there are only two that I even remotely like. But hey, maybe that's just me. Some select screens have an annoying feature/bug : sometimes there are pieces of clothing that I just cannot access because the cursor keeps jumping back to the beginning. Same with bike dyes and bike pieces, it's really frustrating. Also they don't use the law of inertia for some reason ? Most clothing clips through stuff, especially if the pieces are from different sets. Basically, it feels like it wasn't 100% finished. Once most the quests are done (there are about 29), the world starts feeling pretty empty. TLDR/ : Excellent early game content, but lacking in late game. Is it perfect ? No game is. Does it need some tweaking ? Yes, very much so. But did it keep me glued to it for hours on end and make me forget all of my surroundings ? Also yes. Now is it worth your money ? Well would you pay this price for (this is a very rough estimate) at least 30 hours of fun and wonder ? That's up to you to decide, but especially if it's on sale, I wouldn't think twice about recommending it.

I'll be honest and say that it was really Japanese Breakfast doing the soundtrack that really got me to get this game. I really enjoyed it, though I think I found myself slightly disappointed but only due to the marketing this game has received and which I don't think really does it justice. It draws a lot of (accurate) comparisons to Breath of the Wild, though I feel that people coming here expecting a carbon copy of that will be disappointed. The world is here is pretty bare. There are not the thousands of quests to find all over and there's not something to do in every little corner of the map. And the game is occasionally buggy and the movement wonky. But as an experience overall, it's really really lovely. A game more to relax to than one where you are trying to complete all the objectives as fast as possible - though you're doing that too. It feels like a real world that is lived in, which I feel like is an achievement in and of itself. Quests are fun and only build on that feeling. You'll want to explore every city and talk to everyone you come across just to see what the world of Sable has to offer. Solidly great game.

In short; a delightfully charming game with a lot of heart. If you enjoy exploration and long; meditative moments of travelling while looking out at the scenery, this game will definitely scratch that itch. It's a pleasant ride through a lot of different environments and cultures tied together in mostly simple fetch-quests. Despite the technical failings of the game, I enjoyed the more wholesome coming-of-age story told and the striking and inspired visuals. The game was definitely not perfect, I would say its rather flawed. On the technical side, audio related issues where common (sound became choppy or was louder than expected), sometimes the ground failed to load when entering a new area. And every now and then, the frame-rate would dip below acceptable levels (which will probably be more common of an issue for most players; since I have a robust PC build designed to handle this sort of stuff). Outside of the more technical aspects, a lot of the dialogue felt a little dry; especially the half where your dialogue is described indirectly, which as an idea is an interesting choice. I see the appeal in not knowing the exact words my character is saying, as that leaves me room to imagine how I'd respond. But for some reason a lot this indirect description didn't feel personal enough; almost clinical to the point where I wished I could see what the main character actually says. There are other minor gripes I could list off about the dialogue, but most of it is just nit-picky stuff; like how I would have loved to have some sort of audio to accompany the talking (not even full voice acting, but something more akin to the babble the NPCs in the legend of Zelda games have). The major gripes I have with the game that really soured the last hours for me, is the Fishing quest and the Chum egg collecting quest. Now I'm the kind of rare weirdo who actually likes fishing in games, and the fishing in this game was no exception. Mechanically it was fun challenging enough to not be boring. But what really pissed me off, was that the location of some of the fish you had to catch; were way too small and precise. I had to look at like two different videos to find a spot that gave me the exact fish I was looking for at one point; and the process took way too long even with guides. Then the egg collecting. At the start I found it a lot of fun to collect these funny little eggs; the challenge of seeing one in the distance and planning out how to actually get to it was a joy. But at the end; When I realised that I pretty much need to collect every single one, I just gave up. I wish there where more than the needed amount for the quest, so you didn't have to go look at a guide for the location of each one. It is very strange to me that there isn't an excess of these eggs, when there seemed to be an excess of the other story related guest items (the badges you need to finish the game). Despite all of the gripes I had; the overall package was great. The small puzzles you had to solve once in a while were great; the level design was phenomenal. And the wholesomeness of the entire experience was so refreshing in the sea of grim and edgy stories most other games rely on. The message of the story was very powerful, even if the stakes were not that high in the grand scheme of the universe. The personal journey of this girl trying to find their place in the word was one that is a timeless classic. Support these people, they clearly poured a lot of love into this game. I hope their future releases are even better.

Sable is what happens when a game asks, “What if growing up was less about killing dragons and more about helping strangers, exploring a beautiful desert, and figuring out who you are—all while wearing cool outfits?” There’s no combat here, and honestly, it doesn’t need any. The joy comes from gliding across vast landscapes on a hoverbike that definitely has a mind of its own, solving light puzzles, and meeting quirky folks who all seem to have their own quiet wisdom. It’s the kind of game that gives your hands something to do while watching shows, but still draws you in with its cozy story about identity, purpose, and finding your place in the world. The art is absolutely stunning, like you’ve wandered into a graphic novel and decided to stay for a while. And the whole experience feels like a gentle nudge toward introspection—with just enough adventure to keep it from becoming a nap. This was one of the most serene, unexpectedly moving, and beautifully designed games I’ve played in a long time. No swords. No screaming. Just vibes, dust, and a whole lot of soul-searching. 10/10 would wander the dunes again, still not entirely sure what I want to be when I grow up—but at least I’d look great doing it.
